Best falafel is Yeah, Baby! -- not sure that's their official name. It started as a truck on Broadway in Astoria and there's now a storefront on Broadway with a truck coming out of the wall, right off the stop. However, their OG truck moved up to Ditmars and 31st, which is closer to where I'm at now, and my go-to place for halal chicken and rice and falafel

omg all those OUDS! enchanting 💚💚💚

greetings, Gary! Bodega Cats!

bummer -- missed Kadim Al Saher -- thank goodness for the archives (been sorta lurking, but not always within earshot)

i did see him live -- maybe about 20 years ago? Town Hall?

awhile before that, i got to see Rahim AlHaj at Sufi Books -- to this day, i consider myself lucky and blessed! very small space, his Oud playing totally transporting us . . . he talked of the man back in Iraq who made his Oud, the reality of the sanctions on Iraq . . . afterwards a number of us talked more with him -- an amazing, kind human being (i was in the process of seeing if i could have an Oud made but ugh, lost my job so that could not happen) . . . and iirc, he is still living in Albuquerque!
