I did once type :
W/ origins & roots tangled up w/ The Rolling Stones' - & notably in conflict (which they were bound to lose) w/ them for recognition as scruffy Outlaws (in fact - they were more authentically scruffier!)
- & w/ a dynamic actually pitched somewhere twixt the Stones & Who in mid-60s London (their drummer sitting in for Moon w/ The Who on a few occasions - which not everyone could pull off!)
- the Pretty Things were perhaps the best correlate to American Garage insouciance in the UK? - altho ironically making little headway over here
- & presaged I think things like Jim Morrison & ProtoPunks & such (many will know the Pretties tunes Bowie covered on the glorious 'Pin Ups')
...& made absolutely indispensable records...
