Bird wasn’t Cuban was he? Did he get that influence from diz? Kinda reminded of how jelly roll morton said good jazz had to have that “Spanish tinge”
Avatar 9:05pm
Observations:

↳ wimpy @9:03
not Cuban. I think he enjoyed the music like lots of folks in the 1940s-50s, it was fairly to non Latin people. He jammed w/ Cuban musicians

I was, but obvs I was trying to make a funny.

this is all i found, "“Lament for the Congo” is among the rarer tracks on this set. It dates from a 1950 session featuring an unidentified Afro-Cuban Band (the personnel is noted on the album sleeve). It’s the only known Bird recording of the song, and has apparently only been released (“unofficially”) once before, on Bird on the Road from a small, ultra-low-budget label called Jazz Showcase. It’s one of very few cuts on the set that actually fit the definition of “Afro-Cubop” recordings.

Observations:

↳ Song: "Makowax" by "Pee Froiss"
"In 1996, Dakar-based group Pee Froiss released Wala Wala Bok?, a groundbreaking album that helped define Senegalese hip hop. Alongside groups like Positive Black Soul and Daara J, Pee Froiss became champions of Senegalese hip hop, inspiring an entire generation by linking hip hop with political struggle. "
