Listener comments!

  11:08pm
Jessica:

"Are you 'trained'?"
"Let's just say: 'highly.'"
  11:09pm
john:

1976, same year as Shannon. Bit of a stretch, but I think I'm reaching the end of the road for this thread.
  11:11pm
dave:

I'm guessing the fact that we don't hear anything about Ark I indicates that the first crew wasn't quite as highly-trained.
  11:13pm
efd:

well, Ark I's crew was only one guy.

Unless you count the animals.
  11:13pm
john:

Yeah, Noah landed Ark I on top of a mountain. Lousy seamanship.
  11:13pm
peeps:

Thank god for some Ark II to clear my palette after watching "Legend".
  11:14pm
Kenzo:

I am personally hoping that this ark ii thing NEVER ends. Don't let me down!
  11:15pm
efd:

Kenzo, sadly I just have this one episode with me.

Tonight.

efd:

btw, can I just say-- I am kicking back and loving life right now!
Now I see why Stan always starts his show with a 20-minute song.
  11:20pm
ttttttpppppppaaaaaattttttttsssss:

!!!!!!!!!!
  11:22pm
Ike:

I prefer "Benji, Zax and the Alien Prince," but then I'm more of a child of the '80s, I guess.
  11:22pm
DMCK:

Man am I thirsty, for some reason
  11:29pm
Kenzo:

Ohhh, the jet packs! I'd been trying to remember what show from my childhood had those weird people flying around in the desert with jet packs. It was ark ii!
http://www.70slivekidvid.com/ark/jonah-ar.jpg
  11:31pm
efd:

the most amazing thing is, according to the DVD commentary, that is a *real* jetpack! But it only stayed up for 20 seconds at a time... they shot 3 or 4 segments of a stuntman flying it, then used those same shots throughout the series.
  11:31pm
Amanda:

All RIGHT! I loved "Benji, Zax and the Alien Prince"! Thanks for the memory, Ike. No way to go wrong with Benji in space.
  11:32pm
Kenzo:

That explains why the image is so burned into my memory. (Downloading series now!)
  11:37pm
Ike:

You're welcome Amanda -- but did Benji ever actually go into space on the show? I thought it pretty much all took place on Earth. But then I barely remember anything from that show.
  11:38pm
E.L.:

I'm haivng fun visualizing the Ark II crew performing every song tongiht.
  11:39pm
E.L.:

Tonight! I always mixspell everything on posts.
  11:46pm
miss buxley:

efd---hiya i LOVE tommy roe,,,,,hope you had a grooooooooovy weekend,,,,,lots of love,,,MISS BUXLEY!!!!! =)=)=)
  11:47pm
Amanda:

Come to think of it, I guess they didn't go to space. Benji was the terrestrial ambassador for the alien prince (whose name I don't remember) and Zax, who was a robot that I remember looking like Crow from MST3K (but I could be wrong about that too). I'm mixspelling my TV memories.
  11:51pm
Randy in NC:

If it matters to anyone in 'FMU land, Kansas just beat Memphis 75-68 in overtime
  11:55pm
flatd:

overheard at lunch during jury duty: middle aged fat lady sez "man i wanna get this over with so i can get my drink on..."
  12:01am
efd:

thanks flatd. I guess this topic isn't really resonating with the audience at the moment.
Randy, thanks for the NCAA update - personally I'm a baseball-only guy.
  12:01am
Amanda:

1. Thanks, Evan!!!!!! She broke my heart and stole my best guitar, but this makes it all better.

2.When "Get Your Freak On" was popular, I had a friend who liked to sing "Get Your Coat On" to the tune of "Get Your Freak On" while she was putting on her coat.
  12:06am
craig:

Amanda are you familiar with the Satanic Porno Cult Shops' cover of "Get Your Freak On"
  12:15am
Amanda:

Might have been nice to have Satanic Porno Cult Shop blasting out of every car in the neighborhood.
  12:22am
efd:

Amanda, "Get Your Coat On" is awesome, Glad you enjoyed hearing "1x 2x Devastated."
  12:29am
Amanda:

I do believe that's a different version than was on the comp. Yay. I went on a giant record store binge last weekend and looked for the Stems, actually, but didn't find.
  12:36am
Randy in NC:

Actually me too, but 14 yrs in Tar Heel and Blue Devil land takes its toll...
  12:40am
efd:

i'm surprised they even showed the game in NC after UNC lost!
  12:48am
Randy in NC:

I guess as a consolation, at least the team that beat them is the one that won. So they must have been good...
  12:48am
Randy in NC:

Gotta follow this with You Talk too Much!
  12:51am
dave:

whoda thunk REM still had this in 'em?
  12:55am
sloane:

Are you remembering Syd Straw? After those last 2 songs, I am.
  1:06am
efd:

I had actually forgotten about her cover of "Think Too Hard." They should have grandfathered that in to that comp.
  1:17am
Droll:

Bowie/Lodger... That's a forgotten gem. This makes up for playing REM earlier. Now *THAT* is a great band performance.
  1:25am
efd:

glad you enjoyed hearing that Bowie track, Droll. Something for everyone, that's my motto here on the Evan "Funk" Davies show.
  1:37am
Tom:

Laura woohooo.... what a voice and I even like this song again !!!!!!!!!!!
  1:37am
COBRA:

this laura cantrell joint is everywhere
  1:39am
efd:

i feel like the New Order cover's been getting a lot of attention, but this one totally caught me off guard and blew me away.
  12:30pm
Pinky:

Just listened to the archive so there is no point in doing this but that Hunchbacks song was very good. I will be getting the LP
  9:49pm
Snake:

1. Curt Boettcher (sp?) was an active light-pop-psych producer and musician in LA, sort of a minor-league Brian Wilson. Most famous for his work with The Association. Also recorded with groups like the Millennium and Sagittarius, worth checking out if you're into that sort of stuff.

2. Please please please forgive me for mentioning a name that I am about to bring up. But before "Ark II" the TV series, there was an album called "Ark II" by a Brit group called Flaming Youth," whose drummer was Phil Collins, pre-Genesis. I'm pretty sure I have a copy of it on the shelves in my musty basement, I'll have to dig it out and listen to it some day.

3. Good show last night (just listening to it tonight.) That DM3 song just jumps out of the speakers. Good stuff.
