Listener comments!

  11:07pm
john:

Well, of course I feel obliged to comment. Henry Gross SO rules. Naturally I was at the other end of the apartment and barely heard it.
  11:10pm
patrick:

you will be happy to know that it snowed today here in portland maine, and now it is warmer then it was at noon.... global warming!!
  11:13pm
grape ape:

dang 33rpm speed!
  11:15pm
efd:

it didn't help that i was distracted by two WFMU DJs!
  11:15pm
Joe:

I love that break, which was sampled so well by the Beatnuts, then stolen by/for "Jenny from the Block"...
  11:17pm
grape ape:

I liked it slowed down actually.
  11:19pm
Jessica:

I liked it the first time: slow & sleazy goes well with the springtime nighttime vibe. Out here where we're all coated in sexy sexy pollen & a tasty dose of fog.
  11:24pm
efd:

you want it? you got it! we aim to please here on the Evan "Funk" Davies show.
  11:25pm
Jessica:

Quick! To the pole!
  11:26pm
grape ape:

I vote better @ 33
  11:26pm
efd:

btw, John, I hope you learned that you need to be *right in front* of your radio/computer when this show goes on the air!
I suggest one of those whole-house stereo systems.
  11:26pm
patrick:

are you sure this is not the right speed? but this means the song is now 12% longer? i dont know if im willing to make the sacrifice!!
  11:26pm
Jessica:

I wonder if Gary Numan ever covered Peter Gunn.
  11:35pm
john:

Actually, my excuse for hearing it down the hall is unbelievably geekish, so the embarrassment factor goes up by an order of magnitude. And a half. However, the psychic satisfaction level remains quite high.
  11:42pm
efd:

come on, John, you can't give us that much of the story without the payoff.

For anyone who's interested, the McCain Girl's response video is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHVHslPtZfw
  11:46pm
john:

I'll lose every shred of indie cred (like Henry Gross) I've built up over the course of several decades.
  11:49pm
efd:

Jessica, I hope that pollen's cleared out in a couple of weeks.
  11:49pm
fiona:

efd-- whats up?? how was your weekend?? my weekend was the shizzle!!!!!!! did you rock out this past weekend? i shopped the entire weekend, whooooohoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!
  11:52pm
efd:

ok, *now* it's a show!
  11:55pm
fiona:

evan,,,if you ever wanna chat,,i'll e-mail you my address,,,deal???
  12:03am
Laurie:

Fiona: I think EFD requires a jpeg before he consents to that.
  12:08am
foina:

HIYA LAURIE,,,how was your weekend??
  12:16am
Laurie:

Foina: a/s/l? m/f? jpeg?

I kid because I care.
  12:19am
fiona:

laurie--CUTE,,g'nite evan & laurie,,,see u soon,,,
  12:30am
efd:

Laurie, that's two weeks in a row you've had my back - I appreciate it!

Goodnight,,,,Fiona! See you next week.
  12:42am
Laurie:

efd: a/s/l?
  12:49am
Laurie:

I always knew it as Fucked Up Beyond Any Recognition
  12:50am
E.L.:

Laurie beat me to it. As usual.

30yr / M / Providence, RI
  12:51am
efd:

actually, a listener named Dan just phoned in to say it dates back to the Marines in WWII (The Big One) and originally stood for "Fucked Up Beyond All Repair."
  12:51am
Joe:

This song is a pretty good aural representation of how it feels to be FUBAR over somebody. Because, really, who hasn't?

It's an old army term, ww2 era, btw. They had a whole list of them, not least among them, ASAP and FUGAZI
  12:52am
efd:

see, I'm so un-hip that I actually had to google "a/s/l" to see what it even stood for!
  12:53am
E.L.:

The last solution to my anti spam comment calculator was "666."

Eep!
  12:54am
E.L.:

efd,

a/s/l/ — i did too.

I don't speak instant messenger,
  1:10am
Amanda:

We used to listen to Harry Harrison on CBS-FM driving down to school in the mornings, but he was soooper old by then and didn't do any heavy-breather interviews. A shame!

30 / F / NYC
  1:22am
jessica:

[for the record, I made with the Nice Face MySpace. Every track up there, btw, is bursting at the seams w/ rawk.
  1:23am
Jessica:

]
  1:25am
efd:

hey Amanda, good to hear from you! Yep, Harry is one of the greats - creepy interviews and all.
Maybe next time I play something from The "In" Sound I'll (re-?)tell the story of how I once impressed Harry Harrison at a New York Market Radio conference in 1980.
  1:27am
efd:

excellent, nice going Jessica.

And bonus points for posting a follow-up comment to close your bracket.
  1:33am
Joe:

1980! During your wild, carefree days as an WNYU DJ!

Yeah so I maybe I looked you up on wikipedia.

It also says you have x-ray vision, can fly, and like cats... this might make you my arch-nemesis. Just something to think about.
  1:36am
joshua:

Dag, I was gonna listen to the show but got distracted by things on the internet.
  1:36am
Amanda:

Can't wait for that story -- I imagine Harry speaking with reverb on his voice even in real life.

Joe, you're not trying to mock NYU (a private university in the public service), are you? Because if you are... (rolls up sleeves)
  1:43am
Joe:

I asure you, mam, I have nothing but the utmost respect for your and Mr. Funk's alma mater. My arch nemesis theory is based more in his superpowers, and affinity for cats, both of which I despise.

However, I am now contractually obliged to to scream "R! U!" and do that wierd strummy guitar thing that they started doing at the Knights football games once they started winning. College is fun, sometimes.
  1:45am
efd:

i really need to check out my Wikipedia entry more often, it appears.

I do like cats. Not to the exclusion of dogs. But flying...?
  1:46am
efd:

alright Amanda, glad to have another NYUer in the house!
  1:49am
Joe:

Looks like your mutant abilities were exposed by someone going by the tag "Haltheshow."

It is, so far, his only contribution to this website, which, I would like to remind everybody, aims to be the repository for all human knowledge.
  1:50am
Amanda:

Yeah, we weren't so much with the sports over at NYU, but we did yell things during one-act plays.

So you're a supervillain, Joe?

EFD, what kind of dog was in the studio? I am actually very curious to know.
  1:50am
Jessica:

No fair. How am I supposed to go to bed vs. get dressed and go dancing, now?
  1:52am
efd:

Go to bed? Jessica, it's the shank of the evening where you are.

Amanda, it looked like it was at least 3/4 chocolate lab, but I'm not sure it was a purebred.
  1:55am
Joe:

Yes, Amanda, I could sometimes be considered one, but only because I'm so often tragically misunderstood.

Great show this week Ev, thanks.
  1:59am
Doctor B.:

Great program, EFD, as usual!
  2:40pm
Mary (for the permanent record):

I don't mean to tilt your axis of reality or anything, but the title of the Raybeats' EP is actually "Roping Wild Bears."

Bears, dude; not boars. :-)
  4:26pm
efd:

Oh boy! that just goes to show how flustered I was during that opening set... I'm going to fix my playlist right now, thanks for pointing that out!
  4:33pm
pumpkin:

It was the Clark Brothers that won the America's Next Top Band!

Or that Claaakkee Brothahzeaze (with Australian accent)
  4:42pm
efd:

whoops! of course it was the Clark Brothers, how could I forget that?
