Listener comments!

  9:07am
annie:

good morning benjamen!!
  9:07am
BW:

good morning Annie! Did you prick up your ears last week and note anything good?
  9:08am
aahhhh..:

'amind me. i've had an eventful week..
  9:10am
bw:

we were all gonna jot down what our fellow travelers were talkin about on their cell phones or to themselves in public
  9:11am
annie:

yeah, i 'amembah now.. ok let me playback....
  9:19am
annie:

normally i am home and waaay far away from cell-phone use-age as i live on a mountain. as it is, though i traveled to white plains friday and had an opportunity to hear LOTS of cell phone junk.. i'll glean from that
  9:28am
annie:

the most dramatic thing i remember is a woman entreating her teenage daughter to walk and feed the dog. and the kid was not budging from the house from what i heard.
  9:29am
Marco:

Good morning from Italy
;)

Here it's sunny but cold, just like Europe in winter.
;)
  9:32am
bw:

here is what I go:
Whole Foods - night
NYU girl feeling up the ground turkey
on phone "he kept telling me to TOUCH IT!"
over and over
  9:35am
annie:

that's a hoot!
  9:42am
SueB:

On the train I heard a girl talking down to a coworker. Then she gave her website and password for a work shcedule or something. i logged in later hoping to fuck up her week but figured the poor guy would get blamed. oooh the power!!
  9:43am
bw:

sueb-

wow!
that is amazing - you should go for it. just write you over heard it on the subway and were so disgusted you needed to let someone know
  9:45am
tengel:

I was in a bathroom stall, and the guy in the stall next to me on his cell phone was surprised to hear that "you can get $50 to 'donate' to a sperm bank?...AND they give you magazines!?"
  9:46am
annie:

the downside(?) to the dog-walk conversation was that in the long run the woman acquiesced and offered to walk the dog before she took the girl to the mall for shopping!!!! wow,,, wrapped tight around that little finger
  9:48am
bw:

tengel-

the cell in the stall
how the fuck did it get this bad??
I have a co-worker who does this?
I heard him talkin to his girlfren
so grim
  9:52am
tengel:

There's a statistic you won't see nightly doom reporters using to put the economic situation in perspective.
  10:09am
dc pat:

I ride a bike to work so don't hear too many conversations BUT, some chick was gabbing on an iPhone the other day while taking a left turn into the wrong line and almost into me....AND it was one of my best friends!! This is a woman who is obsessed with the safety of her kids but talking on a cell while attempting to drive is a-okay!
  10:11am
dc pat:

this love language is KILLIN!
  10:17am
Joe:

there was a girl next to me on the last train out of Hoboken on friday who thought it would be an awesome idea to A. play really loud bad music out of her tinny cell phone speakers and B. not SHUT THE HELL UP about being a busted stripper. Not even her faux-hawked companion gave half-a-damn.
  10:17am
bw:

dc pat

i like em too - cars and cell phones worse than stalls and cell phones indeed
  10:24am
Cecile:

There was this young woman going on and on about how she was so over this guy but she was into him and first but wasn't sure he was into her. Then then he ends up waiting in front of her house all night in his car hoping to get a glimpse of her. Then she was over him. I guess he didn't play hard to get. Also he wanted her to call him by his street name: "sha-sha". I mean, that's a street name a New Zealander would come up with.

It was hard not to laugh.
  10:25am
Cecile:

the new zealand part was actually my opinion, but it's still true.
  10:25am
bw:

sha sha!!!
that sounds like a name for a busted hooker
  10:27am
Cecile:

I know. I mean, his real name was Tremaine, which is way more street than that. I mean, didn't Johnny Tremaine lose a hand or something doing something metal?
  10:33am
Joe:

they should've called him "Johnny Deformed"
  10:34am
~L:

My best one was a couple of years ago in the summer, I'm driving, my kid is in his car seat in the back, we're stopped at a red light. A guy in a convertible pulls up next to us, cussing his brains out while yelling into his cell phone. Every other word began with F, I looked at my kid, he looked at me, we just started laughing so loud, because what else can you do as a parent when you hear such awful language in front of a young kid. Well, the guy was so annoyed that we were laughing at him, he drove through the red light!
  10:36am
karao:

mornin', bw!
  10:37am
bw:

man - if he had gotten hit! he could have turned to you and said "now whose laffin!"
  10:37am
north guinea hills:

the carter family is always a good tonic for monday morns....
  10:38am
bw:

mornin Kara!
  10:38am
Cecile:

Joe, it just doesn't have the same ring to it.
  10:41am
north guinea hills:

dave pajo sounds a wee bit soft on this one
  10:42am
bw:

pajo is hit and miss on that one I think
  10:43am
Cecile:

I need to hear Lou Rawl's "You'll Never Find Another love Like Mine".

I've determined that you can sing anything in a deep voice and it will sound cool, not weeny.

I mean, look at the lyrics, they sound like someone erupting in a pissy way after they've been dumped. But sung, you can just see the lady turning on her platform heels and walking back into the posh apartment with the flokati rug and the egg chair and the quad sound system and making up with Lou.
  10:44am
dc pat:

Ah, my old friends the Mekons...
  10:45am
dc pat:

I have a bad habit of heckling Sally Timms every time they come to town for some reason..
  10:46am
GP:

Morning all...no funny cell phone stories, just the observation of an escalating scale of rudeness especially watching everyone doing the "Blackberry Prayer" while supposed to be engaged socially with another.....a friend of mine once told me about a drunk harfing up a lung and only paused to wipe off his chin before getting back on the cell to tell the other party about the "awesome" band he had just seen!
  10:49am
Cecile:

my friend went as Rorshach for Halloween a few years back.
  10:50am
Cecile:

dc pat, is it a mean heckling, or more like a fourth grader punching his crush in the arm kind of heckling?
  10:51am
Parq:

Ben, I was gonna ask if you made ComicCon. My kid was down from college with a whole posse of fankids. Least intrustive houseguests I've ever had; up and out the door as I was getting out of bed and didn't come back until afer I've gone to bed - and quietly at that.
  10:52am
Cecile:

SF/comic fandom was my first sustained social circle as a young adult. I have a warm spot for it for that.
  10:55am
dc pat:

Not mean, yeah more crush-like. I mean, I'll say something, then she'll give me a sarcastic reply, then I'll try to match her sarcasm and fail....that kind of thing. I guess I do have a crush on her...her and Poison Ivy, humina humina humina...
  10:55am
bw:

it certainly has a special place in my heart too Cecile
  11:00am
BSI:

....aahhhh, sweet tremolo-ey goodness.......
  11:00am
Cecile:

I went to a Cramps show years ago, and ran into a college classmate whose only comment about the show was "I want that women [Poison Ivy] to take me into an alley and HURT me."

She was wearing what looked like a romper made out of plastic garbage bags, and looked amazing to boot.
  11:07am
dc pat:

yeah, I'm with that guy...AND she's one of my favorite guitar players to boot.
  11:13am
Parq:

Just can't turn my attention away from this Stippy.
  11:21am
dc pat:

One time, I over-heard Poison Ivy talking on her cell, and it went like this: "Yeah, uhuh, word, oh, no you d'en'"
  11:22am
Joe:

According to Aaron Mcgruder, Reggie Hudlin is a big jerk. I guess you've gotta be to be vice president of BET.
  11:26am
north guinea hills:

i've liked everything that i've heard from sham shake..
  11:32am
BSI:

tangerines cure everything.
REAL ONES goddammit, not those satanic "tangelo" things.
i'm TELLIN' you.
  11:37am
bw:

  11:38am
dc pat:

  11:38am

  11:55am

  11:55am
