Listener comments!

  12:22am
Stuckey:

Hey Betsy. Great music!
  12:23am
ian:

tbh the only reason half of new york goes to the farmers market is to flirt with strange vendors.
  12:24am
Betsy:

Hey Stuckey, thanks! One of my favorite Southern restaurants is called Stuckey's. Do you own those restaurants?!?!?!
  12:25am
Stuckey:

Nope! Just a guy named (last-named) Stuckey
  12:28am
Steve:

Interesting, I was just listening to your fill-in for Laura Cantrell on May5 5th earlier today, very impressed and then ZAM - here you are tonight.
  12:28am
Betsy:

Ha! Ian I tried to reply to you but I added the post equation wrong. Apparently 3 + 4 is not 6. Yes you're right the farmer's market is for flirting only.
  12:29am
Betsy:

Hey Steve! Zam here I Yam.
  12:30am
ian:

<3 the nesmith!
  12:31am
Betsy:

Oh God me too.
  12:32am
Steve:

I'll try listening to a Dave Mandle archive and maybe that will bring him back to life.
  12:35am
Betsy:

Ha! He's alive. I took the train to Brooklyn with him tonight when the power blew here.
  12:39am
ian:

this is really nice. how come i've never heard of this julie covington lady before?
  12:41am
Steve:

With just two releases, its a wonder anyone has heard of her; but this is FMU.
  12:42am
Betsy:

I know! So pretty! Sadly I know nothing about her. Just another wispy waif in the willows I guess.
  12:44am
ian:

wikipedia tells me she got her big break via musical theater. Godspell, and apparently the original recording of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina"--ooh hurley. the best jam. Smokey the bear verse kills me all the time.
  12:46am
Betsy:

Oh wow! Godspell. That's like Caroline Peyton but in reverse - Peyton now sings on Disney soundtracks like "Aladdin" & The Little Mermaid
  12:48am
ian:

my other fave musical theater lady is Sally Eaton, whose "Farewell American Tour" album has a killer opening track and a few other gems as well. really cheap too, usually a $5 record.
  12:51am
Betsy:

HUh, never heard of her! I'll have to look for that, it might be around here somewheres...
  12:54am
pfapfap:

Damn, I'm taken back to the days before this kind of music was ubiquitous in car commercials.
  12:57am
Betsy:

Oh, I wish I didn't have to talk! Hi FapFap I know what you mean about the car commercials. I do love this song though
  12:57am
pfapfap:

Oh, yeah, didn't mean it as a slight. Definitely turned it up. :)
  12:59am
Betsy:

I'm obsessed with the shenanigans of whoever these guys are. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxSmSJYbaUk
  1:01am
Betsy:

No slight taken FapFap!
  1:08am
Steve:

This is getting serious. Seat belts please everyone.
  1:11am
Betsy:

I am nothing if not DEADLY serious.
  1:21am
ian:

this last set is totally killing it.
  1:24am
Betsy:

Hey thanks Ian! Givin' it my all cuz I'm following Monica tonight.
  1:25am
Steve:

FYI - Aretha is "Queen of Soul", but who then is the king? According to a DVD I just watched - Solomon Burke.
  1:29am
Betsy:

Ha! Good question. I think there was an Otis Redding/Carla Thomas record where they were Kings & Queens, but only as playing cards.
  1:30am
waaaahht:

"only"!! as though there's a better way to be immortalized.
  1:31am
Steve:

Solomon does have a throne on stage when performing, where does that leave James Brown - just the "hardest working man" in showbiz?
  1:33am
Steve:

This is what happens when I take the seatbelt off my MOUTH.
  1:39am
Betsy:

James is the Godfather of Soul. The pecking order can get confusing!
  1:50am
Dan E:

HAHAHA - one of my favorite Townshend albums, unreleased or otherwise! Great set, as always...
  1:53am
Betsy:

Oh, well I had an excellent source for that one. Nice to see you, Dan-O!
  2:30am
ian:

think you mean Yom Kippur, but thanks!
  2:32am
Betsy:

Oy gevault, really?? Oops. That's what I get for being a minister's kid from Tennessee trying to talk Jewish holidays. I should fast just for that blooper!
  2:33am
ian:

HA.
  2:34am
ian:

passover is the one with the wine & matzoh ball soup and big party.
  2:36am
Betsy:

Oh yeah, that's the one I'm always jealous of! I guess I get Christmas, but whatevs. I want brisket
  2:39am
ian:

brisket is the best no doubt.
  2:54am
Dan E:

As is "Days" - definitely the brisket of the Kinks!
  2:57am
Steve:

Thanks Betsy, what a nice way to spend a Sunday evening (California).
  4:37pm
roddbagg:
