it sounded like the future
  11:12pm
john:

Record nerd tendency dept.: I bought the new vinyl reissue of Trans-Europe Express the other day. I swear even though I've been listening to that record for 30 years it sounded almost like I'd never heard it. Even the jokes are funnier.
  11:13pm
efd:

Hi everyone! I'm trying to figure out whether to let this play through for the remaining 17 minutes and 30 seconds of the track. Album version, don't you know.
  11:14pm
john:

Here's a compromise: play it twice.
  11:15pm
efd:

...
  11:15pm
dave:

look, you're already this far into it, it's pretty much a lost cause. might as well let it play.
  11:15pm
Terre T:

Har! U shudda waited til the "Midnite Ticket Oasis" segment!

  11:16pm
lisa jane p:

definitely let it play!
  11:17pm
efd:

this might be a good time to bring back the "Justine from Math The Band" drop-ins...
  11:17pm
yammerskooner:

Thanks for playing that Bowie track covered by the Bay City Rollers. Didn't think a knockoff of Rebel, Rebel could sound go good.
  11:18pm
Vanda Young:

I hope you kids got your ear buds in
  11:19pm
dave:

i've decided to redirect the entirety of my FMU pledge for this year to buying justine from math the band a vocoder, on the condition that she produce a drop-in to be used the next time efd plays kraftwerk.
  11:20pm
Terre T:

If u let the piece play thru it will probably the only time its been played in its entirety on WFMU ---WITHOUT it being remixed or electro-fiddled with!
  11:21pm
dave:

not to dominate the playlist or anything, but holy CRAP does this version sound better than the original cd release of autobahn. it's like the original was recorded through a few inches of cotton batting.
  11:23pm
Vanda Young:

I heard Kraftwerk is trying to buy Cadbury
  11:24pm
efd:

Negotiations began at the start of the song. The deal will be closed by the end of it.
  11:24pm
dave:

here's hoping they succeed. i love their marconi and cheese.
  11:26pm
efd:

5 minutes to go!
  11:26pm

Thanx for playin the kraftwerk! Inventors of a genre always deserve some airplay
  11:27pm
Vanda Young:

Now, everybody, Go GAS UP!!!

Jeff from St.Paul:

Ahoy fellow listeners!
  11:34pm
AZ:

They reissued everything from Autobahn on; some (like Computer World) aren't available in the US for contractual reasons.
  11:39pm
efd:

Ahoy, Jeff!

AZ, thanks for the KW info!
  11:41pm
Jeff from St.Paul:

I suppose it would be silly of me to ask if anyone else watched the USA v. Canada IIHF Gold Medal game this evening.
  11:42pm
E.L.:

37th!!!
  11:43pm
efd:

Jeff, first of all you'd have to explain (at least to me) what IIHF stands for.

Hi, E.L.! Did you really just count all the comments??
  11:44pm
Joe:

38th! IN YO FACE
  11:44pm
Vanda Young:

  11:45pm
E.L.:

Yeah it's the latest iPhone app. iCountEFDplaylistcomments.
  11:46pm

Thiis tune is freaking me out, man.
  11:55pm
Lu:

  11:56pm
AZ:

That "Spirit of Joy" comp is terrific--dozens of fantastic tracks!
  11:56pm
kamper:

Who got it for you, efd? That is a good friend.
  12:01am
Jeff from St.Paul:

EFD, sorry for not explaining but IIHF = International Ice Hockey Federation. This was the Juniors Championship, and Canada has won it 5 years in a row. Team USA beat them in overtime on their Ice in Saskatoon to win the Gold!
  12:12am
Spoony:

This Boris single is amazing. I think there are supposed to be more in this series. How are they compared to this one? Be honest with me. I deserve it.

Great show tonight, Evan!
  12:13am
efd:

Kamper, it was the most good of all possible friends. And later I'll be playing something else from another present I received from the same friend.

Jeff, no apology necessary - I think I was being unnecessarily flip. Go Team USA! (Although, I have a soft spot for Canada too as regular listeners know.
  12:14am
efd:

thanks, Spoony! Haven't heard the other singles in the series, but you're correct that this one kills!
  12:16am
trs:

good game, good game..
  12:17am
Jeff from St.Paul:

Evan "Flip" Davies? Canada should be fine, they won it five years in a row prior to this. It was just an extremely exciting game to watch.

As for that Boris single - awesome. I am guessing its a limited print of 25, 3 on Rainbow vinyl and are now going for $200 on Ebay.
  12:21am
Jeff from St.Paul:

Holy cow! Parry Gripp finally got a jingle off the ground! Awesome!
  12:23am
E.L.:

I could sure go for a breakfast hoagie right about now. In my mind they have muffin mayonnaise.
  12:26am
AZ:

Bobbie Gentry!
  12:27am
Spoony:

Wait for The Cream. Aretha Franklin, please.
  12:27am
Vanda Young:

Ms Gentry, if you please
  12:31am
cathy lane:

happy 2010 evan,,,did you have a great new years? i hope it was specail,,=)=)
  12:33am
efd:

"cathy lane"? Really?
  12:37am
dave:

it's probably toni daytona's night off.
  12:37am
lisa jane p:

My vote is for Gentry. Really.
  12:39am
efd:

OK, I hereby declare Bobbie Gentry the winner. Stand by,
  12:40am
cathy lane:

evan--are you shocked?? after all it is a new year,,,
  12:40am
Jeff from St.Paul:

I am attempting a request. "905" by The Who, off of "Who are You".
  12:54am
lisa jane p:

YAY!
  12:54am
efd:

jeez, way to slip her own name into the lyrics!
  12:55am
efd:

Jeff, that is an intriguing and bold request! I'm going to have to mull it over for a bit.
  12:57am
Jeff from St.Paul:

No pressure, but I dare you to find a better song about a clone than "905"
  12:57am
Vanda Young:

I counted 2 instruments
  12:58am
cathy lane:

evan i like bobbie gentry,,also what do think of the new persona???
  12:59am
randy in NC:

efd, that re-mastered KW sounded great. We wore Autobahn and TEE out way back when. It's pretty amazing, they did all that stuff before the days of MIDI, samplers, digital synths, Ableton Live, lap tops, etc., etc.
  1:01am
efd:

cathy, I hadn't previously made the connection that the personas (personae?) changed with the new year. I think it's too early to give an opinion on this one.

Hey, Randy! Glad you enjoyed the Kraftwerk, and I agree with your observation.
  1:02am
cathy lane:

goodnite evan,,see you soon,
  1:03am
Joe:

My man Harry sounds like he's had a few adult beverages in that clip...
  1:06am
efd:

speaking of adult beverages, Joe, how come you don't regale the efd audience with your tales of being photographed for Spin magazine all bloodied? You think I don't read Marty McS's playlist comments?
  1:07am
Vanda Young:

it's Liquid Something anyway
  1:08am
cathy lane:

evan just one final thought..you make all us ladies hearts melt!!! love ya=)=)
  1:12am
efd:

alla is actually from chicago, and you pronounced it correctly!
  1:13am
Kat:

how the hell did I get your initials on my comment?
  1:14am
Kat:

I'm in Chicago. Coworker of mine plays live with them occasionally.
  1:15am
Vanda Young:

Ode has been getting so overplayed lately
  1:18am
efd:

hi Kat, I was wondering the same thing myself! Thanks for the additional Alla info.
  1:22am
toni daytona:

evan i totaly agree what cathy lane just posted! nite
  1:28am
efd:

alright then, it's unanimous!
  1:35am
Jeff from St.Paul:

This "my purgatory years" song is great! Its like a safe afternoon special version of "Institutionalized" by Suicidal Tendencies.
  1:39am
AZ:

Before the Rembrandts, I believe Wilde was in Great Buildings...
  1:41am
Joe:

I will tell my Spin story when you -spin- some Screaming Females. Or Jeff the brotherhood. Or Surfer Blood. (All those present at said event)
  1:46am
Joe B:

The Sights return to NYC Feb. 26-27!!!!

rockin show as usual efd!
  1:46am
AZ:

Zowie! That Love Collector 45 was spectacular!
  1:49am
efd:

thanks, Joe! Do you know where the Sights will be playing?
  1:53am
Joe B:

Feb 27 - Cake Shop

Feb 26 - Union Hall (i think!)

breakfast hoagiefest eh? upping the ante!
  1:54am
Joe B:

I used to have this Linoleum CD ... I don't recall it sounding this good! damn!
  1:54am
Joe:

Cake Shop? Done.

They have CAKE. It's really genius.
  1:55am
Joe:

PS Evan I might actually have to send you some Surfer Blood. They have this song that sounds like the Cars that's riiiight up your alley.

Joe B. - what up. Keep rockin'.
  1:54pm
nasok:

i heartily salute the decision to play autobahn in it's entirety. i had to check to make sure that the stream had not switch over to my normal playlist...
