Listener comments!

  9:12pm
sam:

ttsssssssttt. dean carter! yes!
  9:18pm
Wendy del Formaggio:

Happy Birthday, Joe!
  9:20pm
efd:

wait, is it his birthday?! today??
  9:20pm
mike sin:

Who else saw Joe Jackson perform this track at Great Adventure in NJ in 1980?!
  9:21pm
efd:

I saw him perform it at Hurrah in NYC in 1979, does that count?
  9:25pm
Danne D:

Hey funk friends :)
Have to listen at low volume at the starbucks - forgot my headphones :(

Btw, how about that Mets Bullpen! Niese is never gonna get another win :(
  9:26pm
Danne D:

Woohoo - Baseball Project!
You going tomorrow night EFD?
  9:28pm
Joe:

Well, there's only one thing left to do - invent the triple crown dance.

I'm thinking the twist but with more of a swinging motion. Possibly with a running in place section.
  9:29pm
Danne D:

If my friend joins me at the show it will have an odd confluence as we will each have performed with (at least) one of the performers on the bill :)
  9:31pm
Danne D:

After I get in, you all should go to the show - The Baseball Project folks don't come around all that often to these parts.
  9:33pm
Danne D:

Yay!
Hope to see you there EFD.

It certainly would be an incentive for the female listeners to attend the show.
  9:35pm
Danne D:

(all of Evan's female commentators must already be gussying up for Evan as they don't seem to be commenting)
  9:35pm
Sybil:

I may well also have seen JJ at that same Hurrah's show in 79.
  9:36pm
Danne D:

Oh there's one - Hi Sybil :)
  9:36pm
Sybil:

This hussy doesn't gussy!
  9:36pm
Danne D:

You have no need Sybil from all that I hear :D
  9:41pm
Danne D:

Gussy up is such an antique reference. Not sure the last I've heard it much less used it.

I'm totally jealous of all the great shows you guys have been to.
  9:41pm
Sybil:

Aw, blush.
  9:47pm
efd:

I remember that Hurrah show was advertised as "Denson's Shoes" because he was playing another show in town the night before or night after.

I'm definitely hoping to make it to Maxwell's tomorrow, it's a great bill and I do love those Baseball Project songs.

p.s. hi everyone!
  9:47pm
Joe:

I ▲ Big Troubles
  10:07pm
frisco kid:

Oh how weird, I JUST listened to the Prince Charming album - found a copy on the sidewalk!
  10:09pm
efd:

That *is* weird! And who would consign an Adam & the Ants album to such a fate?!
  10:14pm
Danne D:

Hmm, maybe you have to find your princess - and this is in lieu of the glass slipper, frisco!
  10:17pm
mustard:

yeah!
  10:27pm
Danne D:

Pleasure Kills were so awesome last week :D
  10:31pm
efd:

cool Danne, glad you liked them!

what up, mustard!
  10:35pm
Danne D:

comin' down the stretch in the fantasy baseball league :)

looks like a good battle brewing for that last playoff spot!
  10:35pm
Amanda:

OMG PEPPERMINT LUMP
  10:36pm
Amanda:

(Hi, everyone!)
  10:36pm
Joe:

what is this I don't even
  10:37pm
Danne D:

Hi Amanda :)

This is great btw! Yet another awesome EFD show :)
  10:38pm
Amanda:

Pete Townshend is involved in it. I will let our DJ tell us the rest.
  10:40pm
Danne D:

Amanda showing off her extensive musical knowledge as usual :)
  10:41pm
Danne D:

(just realized that if I recorded the kids behind me at the starbucks I probably would have a million great pieces to drop into matchups) Just heard like 7 "ewwws" in a row

This place is too loud :( Will have to relisten on the archive :)
  10:53pm
Danne D:

also I think Keili is doing a fill-in at like 3-6am on Sunday Night/Monday Morning :)
  11:02pm
efd:

you are correct, sir.
  11:03pm
Joe:

this is super dope. A+ for italo-disco-tronica
  11:04pm
Danne D:

I think I found the next birthday/christmas gift for Evan:v

  11:05pm
Google:

Vocalist Angie Porter was a child star, singing backing vocals on 'Video Killed The Radio Star' (no less), recording a single with Pete Townshend ('Peppermint Lump' on Stiff), and feted by LA legend, Rodney 'On The Roq' Bingenheimer (look him up).

  11:06pm
Danne D:

Any show that works in a Buggles reference is that much more of a winner in my book :)
  11:10pm
Amanda:

"When you hold me like you hold that Bakelite in your hands..."
  11:17pm
Danne D:

:)
  11:19pm
Amanda:

haha. I got it wrong. Ahem. "When I hold you like I hold that Bakelite in my hands..."
  11:21pm
Danne D:

don't worry - i didn't hear the error over the drone that is this noisy starbucks :D
  11:26pm
efd:

Amanda, what's that quote from?
  11:27pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Kickin' it old school EF
D--Moody!!!
  11:28pm
Sybil:

There's no Action?
  11:30pm
Amanda:

Yes! Sybil, you got it! (Sorry, I had gone to take the trash out so I missed the question.) Elvis Costello, "No Action": "I'm not a telephone junkie..." is how the lyric starts, and I assume Bakelite is the fake plastic that the phone is made of.
  11:31pm
Amanda:

or... type of plastic. all plastic is fake.
  11:31pm
Sybil:

Bakelite is Way BETTER than plastic.
  11:34pm
Amanda:

This costume jewelry fan is not one to argue.
  11:38pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--was that Joe Jackson show referred to above at the Bottom Line ? The one previous or post the one at Hurrah? That band was smoking hot in those days--I still think Graham MAby was the most dazzling bass player I ever saw (including Jaco Pastorious).
  11:41pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

Sybil and Amanda--I always assumed he was talking about a guitar--old Danelectro guitars were made of Bakelite
  11:42pm
Danne D:

All folks up at the ungodly hour of 3-6am eastern should check out Keili's show Sunday night/Monday AM - it'll be worth it :)
  11:43pm
efd:

Michael, the show I saw was at Hurrah; I don't remember where the officially announced show was, though. And completely agree on Graham Maby, he was fabulous.
  11:44pm
efd:

I hasten to add I'm sure he still IS fabulous, I just haven't seen him in a while. But I think he lives in NJ now.
  11:48pm
Amanda:

Moving to NJ tends to make one yet MORE fabulous.

Michael -- this would make sense. If only I knew what he meant by "just good friends"
  11:50pm
Danne D:

I totally agree Amanda :)
  11:51pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD I have seen him recently and he was just as good as he was then, but I knew what I was getting having seen him already. When I saw him with Joe Jackson that first time I had never seen a bass player play "lead bass"--it was truly stunning.
EFC--did you ever see that BBC Rock Goes to College show from the week before that? A great memorialization of that band.
  11:51pm
Sybil:

I lived in NJ for one year, and the fabulousness endures to this day. ;)
  11:53pm
Sybil:

... And I always assumed that "there's no action" referred to an incomplete harpsicord, because a friend in college had one in her room. Which led to many renditions of the song.
  11:53pm
Danne D:

Exactly Sybil!

Anyhow, I'm gonna have to pack up from the Starbucks. Hope you all have a great night :)

Certainly hope to see some of you fine folks at Maxwell's tomorrow night :)

Until next week Funk Friends :)

Thanks for another outstanding show Evan!
  11:56pm
chris_toronto:

yay, Pernice Brothers
  11:57pm
Michael from the Left Coast:

EFD--you familiar with the 88
This Pernice Bros track reminds me of the 88
