Listener comments!

  9:14pm
martin:

I love Runner! Saw them at Don Hills when I worked there.
  9:15pm
efd:

cool! This song popped into my head last night and i had to hear it again.... so good!!!
  9:16pm
martin:

Yeah, it got some heavy airplay on FMU back around 04. I still have their CD-R somewhere. They were amazing live. Did a cover of I Need To Know.
  9:17pm
cheri:

dear evan---i like the show so far and hope you have a wonderful labor day weekend,,with love --cheri
  9:17pm
efd:

nice! I'm pretty sure they did a live set on Terre T's show around that time also.
  9:19pm
Sybil:

Good evening all! I feel the pull!

But OMG... Red Sox and White Sox, how will I do the laundry?
  9:20pm
efd:

hi Sybil! You're getting pulled by multiple gravities.

Hi Cheri, thanks for checking in - happy labor day weekend to you as well.
  9:21pm
efd:

the only good thing about that Manny trade is that maybe I'lll be able to get a discounted Manny Dodgers jersey when I'm out there at the end of September.
  9:21pm
efd:

Well, that and the possibility of him getting into the post-season.
  9:22pm
Sybil:

And yet I still watch the Dodgers. At this rate, I'll be following every team in MLB before long. Good thing Julian retired. ::SOB::
  9:24pm
Sybil:

Yeah, the Bums seem to be out of it. I'm sad on behalf of Joe Torre.
  9:25pm
Joe Torre:

Go Devil Rays
  9:26pm
Sybil:

Heh.
  9:27pm
Emily Post:

No wearing white or playing Sound of Summer after Labor Day.
  9:28pm
Joe B:

Runner live set with Terre T - Sept. 13, 2003, then the record eventually came out on the Ace Fu label. Great track!
  9:29pm
Sybil:

Hey Emily - It isn't summer until I play "Hot Fun in the Summertime", and it isn't Not Summer until efd says so, dig?
  9:32pm
Emily:

quoth efd: "last spin of the season :("

And no multiple personalities, while we're at it.
  9:35pm
Sybil:

Multiple, Moi? Jamais. I have only one. I blame Sally Field, who ruined the name for the rest of us.

No, I blame the screenwriter.

Heck, I blame everyone.
  9:36pm
Sybil:

MARCO...
  9:36pm
Sally Field:

She hates me, she really hates me!
  9:38pm
Sybil:

I really liked the Flying Nun though. ::HUGS::
  9:38pm
Sally Field:

Good save
  9:39pm
Sybil:

...SCUTARO!

Am I the only one watching?
  9:41pm
efd:

well, I'm not! :)

But my brother told me that was a popular game at the pond on Cape Cod last week.
  9:46pm
Sybil:

It's a game that makes me wish I was there. 5-5, top of 7th. O No, Drew safe. Now 6-5 Red Sox. Go. all.
  9:47pm
jmd:

EFD,
This Junk Science track is terrific. Thanks.
  9:48pm
Sybil:

3-run HR for Beltre. RED (vs White) Sox 9-5
  9:49pm
efd:

thank YOU, jmd!

Sybil, thanks for the Sox update! I'm holding out a glimmer of hope, however remote their chances.
  9:52pm
Sybil:

K, Bard now pitching for the
RS
  9:54pm
Radio Bear:

liking yr show
  9:54pm
Sybil:

Loooks good for the RS, who lead by 4.
How many Lugos play MLB?
  9:55pm
Danne D:

Hi Funk Fans :)
Them Bears know their radio.
  9:57pm
Danne D:

By the way Evan - you'll really love the ballpark in DC I think. It's pretty small but still has an open feel to it. Lots of good eats and the ushers were pretty friendly.

Stay tuned for the EFDHHDYDTY Fantasy Baseball League playoff update :)
  10:00pm
E.L.:

My Favorite track off this E6 Album. The new album's already on the way!
  10:03pm
efd:

hey, E.L.! Nice to see you!
Danne, I'm looking forward to checking it out some time - and to the EFDHHDYDTY Fantasy Baseball League playoff update, now that I've clinched a playoff spot!
  10:04pm
efd:

oh, and thanks r. bear! Any relation to sandwich bear?
  10:05pm
john:

Hey Evan! Looking forward to the update myself, mostly because I don't have a clue how the playoffs work, but given my recent pitching slump, I'm probably better off.
  10:05pm
martin:

what next, KRSMA?
  10:07pm
Danne D:

ZEF84E is a secret code I'm temporarily puttin gher though I doubt I'll need it.

So trader Aharon leads the way with one week to go. He only needs a 2-10 mark or better to clinch a playoff bye. He's clinched a playoff spot. He has a 1 1/2 game lead for the regular season title over...

Guns of Broxton. They just need 3 1/2 wins against the Grand Slam Singles to Clinch a bye without any help. They've clinched a playoff spot.

My New Jersey Knuckles team has clinched a spot in the playoffs but pretty much needs a miracle to get a bye. I need 9 1/2 wins if GSS beats Guns 11-1. I need 10 wins if they win either 10 1/2 - 1 1/2 or 11 1/2 - 1/2. I need 10 1/2 wins if GSS beats guns by either 10-2 or 12-0. Funny thing is since I'm playing last place Kingman Rat Delivery I might be able to pull out my half of the deal.

Grand Slam Singles are in. They need to beat Guns by 11-1 and also beat me out by at least 2 in order to get at least 2nd place and the miracle bye that goes with it.

EFD is chilling in 5th and has clinched a spot. Can't move up to the top 2 (though he still can move up to as high as the 3rd seed)
  10:08pm
efd:

I should clarify, I'm counting on Danne D for the update since I haven't prepared one myself.

@martin, not the worst idea in the world, but no. :)
  10:11pm
EvilGothGuy:

Hey I just filled out the fmu listener survey? Will they really call me back!
  10:11pm
efd:

Sybil, maybe 3 Lugos...? Is it a trick question? :)
  10:13pm
EvilGothGuy:

Will the management really take my suggestions seriously ???
  10:14pm
All FMU Staffers:

yeah, totally, we can't wait to rub shoulders with evil goth guys.
  10:14pm
EvilGothGuy:

Don't hate me because I'm evil.
  10:17pm
efd:

EGG, assuming your suggestions were made seriously I'm sure they'll be taken seriously. Can't comment for sure on the callback, but it doesn't seem like that would be in there if it wasn't going to be followed up on.
  10:17pm
EvilGothGuy:

"Just because your evil doesn't make you a bad person" Sean Penn said that!
  10:17pm
All FMU Staffers:

Are you James Lee's missing twin?
  10:17pm
Danne D:

So that leaves 3 teams fighting it out for the 6th and final playoff spot.

In 6th is defending champion Ubergoober. If they go 6-6 or better they clinch without any help. With one very unlikely exception, any combination of 6 'Goober wins and Ernest Smorgasborg 9 losses will clinch them the spot.

Ernest Smorgasborg 9 is in 7th. They need to make up 6 1/2 games on Ubergoober. That's basically it. One oddball exception below excepted. Oh, if ES9 makes up exactly 6 games on Ubergoober?!? They are in a flat-footed type (they split their series 12 games apiece). I have no idea what yahoo does then.

Then there's the 8th-place Frozen Dopes. They are hanging in there with the proverbial puncher's chance. In order to finish 6th, they need to beat Ubergoober 12-0 in their match this week and have ES9 go 6 1/2 - 5 1/2 or worse this week. Should be a piece of cake.

Sadly, Shaolin Monks, Villainous Fats, Get Metsmerized!, and Kingman Rat Delivery are all eliminated. Right now they are in that order in the standings. Only the Monks and Fats realistically could swap places.

So there you. Playoffs start next week!!! 3 v 6, 4 v 5. By the way, the tiebreaker in the playoff games is how the teams did against each other during the season.
  10:18pm
EvilGothGuy:

Of course! All kidding aside when it comes to FMU
  10:22pm
EvilGothGuy:

Dave the spazz has been on too long! 20 years in the same spot is enough! How about some FRESH BLOOD in his time slot!!!
  10:23pm
?:

funfun
  10:25pm
EvilGothGuy:

How about a blues show? That plays muddy waters and miles Davis and Charlie Parker?
  10:26pm
john:

Just a guess. I'm not winning 12-0 this week. Indeed, Cliff Lee alone may crush my late-season run.
  10:26pm
EvilGothGuy:

FMU should have at least a little sampling of jazz and blues?
  10:27pm
Danne D:

8(
C'mon John - you've got a shot!
  10:27pm
E.L.:

If only there were a place to hear Muddy Waters music.
  10:29pm
EvilGothGuy:

And to be honest! Thursdays nights aren't the same since Pat Duncan left!!
  10:30pm
EvilGothGuy:

And the Cosmic Cowboy!!!
  10:31pm
E.L.:

Moses on a Snail: "Let my people go... real slow!" The point is I tried.
  10:34pm
Danne D:

Really EGG - no love for Radio "Active" Theater?
  10:34pm
EvilGothGuy:

I know Alan watts is long dead but I liked his lectures!
  10:35pm
?:

it's The Unabomber of Freeform Programming
  10:37pm
EvilGothGuy:

You can see I've been a listener for more than 30 years!
  10:40pm
Radio Bear:

The virtue of WFMU is that it doesn't do what it's told
  10:41pm
EvilGothGuy:

That's true. But it should OBEY it's listeners needs!!!
  10:41pm
efd:

E.L., I'll take it! Thanks!

EGG, with respect I suggest that your ideas belong in the survey (where you've already put them, presumably) more than on a playlist comments page.
  10:43pm
EvilGothGuy:

Duly noted EFD!
  10:46pm
john:

Saw Elf Power a few years back; one of the best shows I've ever seen, oddly enough. And I think this is the tenth album, if you don't count the odds 'n sods gig disc I snarfed up.
  10:47pm
Danne D:

Hrm, and who were the hosts of Radio "Active" Theater EGG?
  10:47pm
E.L.:

Huzzah! Another victory!
  10:49pm
Danne D:

^^^^^
(doesn't actually remember the hosts himself) but if I'm not mistaken it was on like on a Tuesday night. possibly before Terre T's show or maybe Meredith's. All I know is that I would hear it while driving to Willie P to study for the the actuarial exams in their library ----- that's about 16 years ago, maybe 17.
  10:52pm
EvilGothGuy:

So no chance of hearing and voodoo hillbilly rock. Like deadbolt?
  10:57pm
SF Spike:

Thanks for playing India! Hearing that intro gave me a flashback to many late nights long ago....
  10:57pm
efd:

wow, I haven't heard Deadbolt in a while. Let me see if I can find some in the WFMU library after the ticket giveaway.
  10:58pm
Mark:

2nd that. Nice memories seeing Furs at the Agora in Columbus
  10:59pm
Marco:

So dis any one see Liza minelli on joy behar tonight???
  11:00pm

  11:03pm
Marco:

  11:05pm
Mark:

That pop. 1280 is in my top ten
  11:07pm
Kath:

Shout out accepted! Loved hearing India too!
  11:07pm
Danne D:

So EFD - you should lead a baseball game outing next year for the Message Board Peoples :)
  11:08pm
Holly:

If you DO play Deadbolt, I vote for 'Going to Wichita" or 'She's Gone Gongwipdu'.
  11:10pm
Marco:

I would like to hear "voodoo trucker" or "jimmys grave"
  11:11pm
Danne D:

lots of good tickets again EFD - I wish I had a better handle of what nights are good for me this weekend :(

Good luck to the dialers though :)
  11:12pm
Marco:

The Bowery ballroom? Do you have to drink to get in?
  11:14pm
minnesota jeff:

EFD, it would be rad if you played some 'White Boy and the Average Rat Band'. Sue P played some last night and its scorchin' red hot!
  11:15pm
Marco:

You mentioned the mercury lounge? I've never been there? Do you have to drink to get in?
  11:18pm
cheri:

evan thanx again for another terrific show,,,i just loved it!!!once again have a fantastic holiday weekend,,,,g'nite=)
  11:23pm
efd:

thanks, cheri!

Marco, you don't have to drink, you just have to be old enough to drink - which I assume you are, since you've been listening to WFMU for 30 years!

MN Jeff, I had a great time in your state a couple of weeks ago! I have that LP in the studio but didn't get a chance to audition it. I'll see if I can get something on from it.
  11:23pm
cheri:

this popular disco diva will be back next week,,,
  11:24pm
Marco:

Oh I'm old. Would you believe 43?
  11:25pm
Amanda:

Thought to call in for the tickets to the late show at Maxwell's Saturday night, but I forgot that Mudhoney/White Hills/Pissed Jeans are the same night! Now I have no idea what to do.
  11:26pm
minnesota jeff:

You went to the Triple Rock and Treehouse Records right? Treehouse was formerly known as Oarfolkjokeopus for years when the Replacements called it home. Sorry the damn White Sox spoiled your Twins game. We don't let that happen too often in our house (dome or field).
  11:26pm
Danne D:

Hi Amanda :D
I hope you have fun at whichever show you end up at :)

I'm actually pakcing up from the starbucks for the evening but thanks for another great show Evan :) and have a good night funk nation!
  11:27pm
Holly:

My 'my sunshine' 7" (admittedly, a web dl) does NOT include 'do it clean'. Am I alone in this?
  11:27pm
cheri:

marco. i'm only 28
  11:29pm
Marco:

Since I live close to the mercury lounge I've always wanted to see live music? But I don't drink. Never touched a drop in my whole life.
  11:30pm
Mpg:

Call of the West Wall of Voodoo?
  11:30pm
Amanda:

Thanks Danne!
  11:32pm
cheri:

evan do you believe that i'm only 28? i've past my prime,
  11:33pm
Marco:

WOW! Blood and roses!! I haven heard that on the radio since the 80's
  11:33pm
coelacanth:

must take my leaves . but i've listenned & liked. Thank you,Evan Funk Davies ! g night.
  11:33pm
Holly:

If you segue Deadbolt into Smithereens - well --it'd be a kinda genius move. Great song, btw.
  11:33pm
efd:

MN Jeff, correct! And Cheapo as well - all great! Was also at the Sat afternoon game that weekend, which the Twins ALSO lost. What the hell?!
  11:34pm
efd:

Holly, fwiw that song isn't listed on the 7" - it's a "hidden" track on side 2.
  11:34pm
Marco:

Cheri if your past your prime at 28? I should be wearing a sign that says "next stop glue factory" at 43
  11:42pm
minnesota jeff:

EFD, both of those games were sandwiched with wins - sorry. But you can't deny that new ball park. I am glad you got to come out here, Its hard to judge how many tourists find their way here sometimes, but I love it here and it always seems like people leave real impressed when they do (if they come between March and October).
  11:44pm
cheri:

evan,,i'm sorry i've overstayed my welcome..you have no idea hoe tough it is being a 28 yr old woman,,lolol. thanx again
  11:45pm
cheri:

*how
  11:46pm
john:

Had a momentary flashback when you announced this one before the needle hit the shellac, but it's pretty clearly not Lou Miami (RIP) and the Kozmetix now, is it?
  11:48pm
Holly:

Ooh! Lou Miami! Dance with Death!
Ah, the 80s.
I do really like _these_ Cosmetics as well :)
  11:50pm
Marco:

What was the name of that guy who you mention on twitter and he will follow you???
  11:52pm
efd:

that would be DJ Spinnaface.

And John, yes, different Cosmetics. :)
  11:53pm
john:

I agree with Holly, though...liked the new ones too! Probably don't dress as well, all the same...
  11:59pm
cheri:
