Listener comments!

  12:08pm dc pat:

GREAT Kinks tune.
  12:09pm pyropingvin:

yeah :)
  12:09pm seang:

let's raise some hell!
  12:09pm SmokinJ:

Glad to mbe rockin'!
  12:17pm Rubble:

Happy Thursday!
  12:17pm David Shortell:

How about playing "Come On" (Part 1 or 2) by Earl King?
  12:19pm DB:

LOL I'm having a Gran Turismo flashback!
  12:19pm Carmichael:

That's it, Joe. Keep playin' the rekkids. You know, the kind the kids like.

Like the 101ers ...
  12:21pm dc pat:

KING KHAN!!! Man, love that Montreal rock.
  12:23pm steve:

Best show on FMU! Always have fun and thanks for the great tunes.
  12:37pm Parq:

Joe, are you not gonna use the montage intro this season? I just figured it was skipped last week to accommodate Todd's rousing performance.
  12:50pm Jeb:

Welcome back! Evil Farm Children missed you up here in Ottawa, Canada.
  12:50pm dc pat:

that Nick Curran sounded pretty good...let's see, coming to DC?...... NO OF COURSE NOT!! does anyone come to this stinkin town anymore?
  12:55pm Cecile:

That was a good era for Brit Invasion coming back. I think those two Searchers albums of that era are some of their strongest stuff.
  12:58pm RZ:

Noone was a natural for this stuff. Surprised it never hit bigger and was more or less written out of history. At the time being know as Herman was probably a detriment as opposed to an advantage!
  12:58pm Cecile:

dcp, you ain't kidding. Any scene that can spawn Chromeo, the Gruesomes, Voivoid, King Khan, Godspeed You Black Emperor! and DJ Champion is a-OK with me.
  12:58pm SmokinJ:

Sounds like Peter Noone was playin' the shit outa' his Knack album as well...
  1:01pm Carmichael:

Thanks for the 101ers, Joe!
  1:02pm Cecile:

I liked the 1st Knack LP a lot at first, but there was always a kind of sliminess about their lyrics even by the boy-centric standards of garage rock at the time that turned me off. Also? It was overplayed. By the radio and by me.
  1:02pm Joe B:

Hi everyone! thanks for tuning in/commenting!

Parq, my plan was to make a new one over the last 4 months but of course that never happened! I jut forgot it is all, maybe i wil lremember next week
  1:04pm SmokinJ:

Love em' or hate em', The Knack kicked ass. Woke a lotta' people up..
  1:05pm Cecile:

That's very true. I think people were jealous that their kind of rock broke through when other bands weren't.
  1:05pm Carmichael:

I really liked the guitar player, Burton Averre (?). But go watch the My Sharona video and see if you don't shudder and say "ugh!"
  1:06pm Joe B:

The Knack backlash - I still see examp[les of it today, and through the last 30 years: Fans of struggling band whine 'why are they not popular?" yet if and when they get popular, same fan cries sellout or has some other problem.
  1:07pm Cecile:

Oh, absolutely. If you're a band you have to have a sense of humor about it, because you can't win.
  1:07pm SmokinJ:

I saw The Knack in '79' and wasn't disapointed. R.I.P. Doug :(
  1:08pm Jeb:

Evil Farm Children just shared a bill with the Gerry Alvarez Odyssey in London Ontario. Great stuff & great guys.
  1:09pm Joe B:

Hi Jeb!

I wish Gerry would come down here!
  1:11pm Cecile:

I saw them at a festival in '04, and they were all right. Liked Blue Oyster Cult better.
  1:12pm Cecile:

heh. Those were two bands that were blessed/cursed with one hit song that was bigger than they were.
  1:12pm SmokinJ:

BOC hade their moments as well :)
  1:13pm Cecile:

Many, many moments.
  1:16pm Cecile:

Hey, I saw early 90s lineup GBV the other night. They brought it, and man. Does that band need Tobin Sprout! They had great stuff after him, but he delivered a lot of good songs.
  1:28pm holland oats:

@cecile - friend o mine was there too, said it was awes
  1:28pm seang:

those norton records are only 10 bucks!
  1:38pm Parq:

If the Knack never existed, we would have had to invent them.
  1:40pm Marmalade kitty:

....................a rather good show! :)
  1:42pm Bad Ronald:

Hello Joe et al. Yeah, I loved the Knack. They did a kick-ass cover of "The Hard Way" on their 2nd album!
  1:46pm Rob W:

Cecile! Marmalade Kitty! Greetings! Katie blew off the whole GBV thing Cecile, she is very, very particular about what shows she goes to (out of Teenage Fanclub, Vaselines, GBV, Belle and Seb., the only one we went to was the FMU Clean show @ Maxwell's) - but glad you enjoyed (even sans Mr Sprout)...
  1:49pm Parq:

@Joe, 1:02 -- thanks for the response. We trust you to achieve greatness in your own fashion, but you know us listeners -- we wanna get loaded! Yeah!
  1:52pm Rob W:

Joe gets extra credit for updating his montage rather than resting on his laurels, Parq!
  1:55pm Cecile:

Hi, Rob! No, Tobin Sprout was there. It was awesome.
  1:56pm listener james from westwood:

Sounds like Linda Ronstadt has switched from the Plow King to Mister Plow!
  1:57pm Huge:

Homer Simpson did a country album…?
  1:58pm Marmalade kitty:

Linda Ronstadt & Homer Simpson - A Quality track!
  1:58pm Cecile:

LOL LJFW.
Yeah, me and this young guy in the audience I was talking to would point at each other and shriek everytime Tobin took a lead vocal.
  1:58pm Rob W:

Ah Cecile, Gotcha... sounds great! Although Homer Simpson with GBV might be worth the price of admission as well...
  1:58pm Carmichael:

... the name again is "Mr. Plow" ....
  2:00pm Cecile:

I would drive to that. Who would win in a Homer Simpson/Bob Pollard drinking contest?
  2:02pm Rob W:

Cecile: Dan Castellaneta?
  2:02pm GeorgeSimian:

This is the best Neil Young album.
  2:03pm Cecile:

I think "I'm Wondering" is the best video ever made. It's so amazingly surreal, cheap and strange.

No the actual Homer Simpson. I think Castelleneta is a lightweight.
  2:03pm GeorgeSimian:

and I mean Everybody's Rockin' It's so good.
  2:04pm Rob W:

Guilty pleasure dept: I agree Cecile, I love "I'm Wondering" - !
  2:04pm Carmichael:

Barney would bury all comers under the table.
  2:06pm Skirkie:

Enjoyin' the hell outta this, as per the usual.
  2:06pm -max-:

Digging the show Joe, but I think the 91.1 over-the-air signal seems messed up. Anyone else hearing it? Is it in my head?
  2:06pm Joe B:

Agree George, on Everybody's Rockin. One of these retro-rockabilly bands currently out there should cover Jellyroll Man or payola Blues.
  2:07pm Joe B:

Max, they are doing some work on the transmitter. sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi Rob and everyone else who has signed on since the first hello!
  2:11pm Joe B:

apparently it is not just a little work on the transmitter, sorry to 91.1 listeners.
  2:13pm tim from champaign:

I'm leaning toward Homer. Duff is heartier beverage than Miller Lite. Isn't that what Pollard srinks these day? Although, you can't get drunk off of Miller Lite. So Pollard might win. This a real quandry
  2:13pm Cecile:

Homer has also drunk a lot of Fudd.
  2:13pm SueA:

whoa. thanks for stopping the Young. he sounded worse than me on a 5 drink karaoke kick. red simpson is cool.
  2:14pm -max-:

Thanks Joe, just wanted to make sure I wasn't having a stroke or something. Carry on...
  2:16pm King Penguin:

Dale!
  2:18pm David Shortell:

Okay, now play some Lurleen Lumpkin!
  2:18pm dc pat:

Got any Bloodshot Bill? more montreal stuff...
  2:27pm dc pat:

gads why DO people drink lite beer? I like my beer as strong and powerful as possible.
  2:27pm Ven:

Hey, the web stream sounds unusually tinny and trebley compared to tthe radio.
  2:33pm Parq:

Dig it, Pat. Lite beer and decaf coffee -- what's the damn point?
  2:33pm Cecile:

I like the taste of decaf if it's done right. Lite beer, I'm not a fan.
  2:35pm A beer drinking listener:

Barleywine uber alles! I'm sure Cyclone 60 would agree (unless they prefer Chocolate Stout)
  2:37pm dc pat:

mmm....chocolate...stout....
  2:42pm Joe B:

that's not a typo - they left the e off the end of chocolate
  2:47pm efd:

Monsieur, that is le French spelling!
  2:48pm Joe B:

Oh, pretty fancy for a Jersey band! thanks!
  2:50pm Weird NJ:

Jersey cyclones are totally into frenching.
  2:54pm Cecile:

Bring it to Jerome!
  2:54pm RZ:

Great show today Joe!
  2:55pm Jersey Jeff:

Glad to hear you're back...loving the killer instrumental. WFMU is playing in my office.
  2:55pm Keith in Oregon:

Fun show today; thanks Joe!
  2:56pm Jeff Jotz:

Damn I missed the discussion on Duff beer!
  11:18am cdriver:

Great show! Some sanity on the airwaves for us oldsters..
