A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Michael from Bay Ridge:

Anyone have any favorite Francoise records to recommend to a newbie?
  10:28am
trouble:

sorry michael, i lost track: any greatest hits will do you. since she was an 60's pop star the singles were the thing back then.. in the 70's i really like the lowwwwww ness of "star", but then i do love all that she does practically.
  10:28am
annie:

looks like the only time an fmu dj played it was back in '98!
  10:29am
trouble:

i can grab it from the accuplaylist, thanks annie!
  10:33am
Michael from Bay Ridge:

Thanks, Trouble!

Hola, Trouble! We are loyal listeners from Hudson County but we decided to migrate South for the winter with the rest of the birds. Sending sunshine your way all the way from Santiago, Chile. Happy Birthday, Francoise!

mike tp:

annie jenna says hi

  10:35am

@Michael from Bay Ridge: I picked up a Vogue Years greatest hits (double disc, 50 tracks) for $8 from Amazon...I found it to be a great intro to lovely Francoise.
  10:35am

The two or three albums Françoise did in English are great too. Loads of them are on Spotify, if you have that in the US.

Issac from Tijuana:

é = ALT + 130
  10:47am
Mariano:

The umlaut (or trema as it's known in Spanish) is a stylistic thing, not grammatical, like the one over the N in Spinal Tap.
  10:47am
Michael from Munich:

An Umlaut over the E is not a part in the German language
  10:48am
Richard:

My 12 year old and I rejected that owls movie based on its trailer, during which the filmmakers essentially tell THE WHOLE STORY, INCLUDING IT'S TRIUMPHANT CONCLUSION, over the course of 5 minutes!
  10:48am
Webhamster Henry:

My kids picked up on the formulaic nature of Guardians of Ga'hoole adn there was no way they were going to see it. They look at www.kidsinmind.com to get a heads up on objectionable material, which they object to constantly.
  10:48am
mike tp:

fun with languages with trouble
  10:49am
Richard:

It must be too early in the morning for me. Please forgive my grammatical error. ITS TRIUMPHANT CONCLUSION
  10:50am
Mariano:

Btw, e-umlaut lower-case on a PC is [Alt] 0235. You have to enter the numbers on the numeric keypad instead of the top row of numbers. Have to keep the alt key pressed down as well.
  10:52am
Jennique:

Being at the museum of natural history, I can totally relate to bad foot traffic planning. COMPLETE bottleneck in the Hall of Human Origins renovation. HATE WALKING THRU THERE. Not right. Not right at all as it is a great hall.
  10:53am
Michael from Munich:

@Mariano What do I do if I don't have a numeric keypad on my laptop?
  10:53am

sorry bp... i heard a great piece on the show from 2-4 on WERU yesterday. he told it like it was.

Mariano answered the umlaut question, but turns out Denver is a Chilean band...thanks for the heads up, Trouble! Do you remember the name of that blog you were on last night?

annie -- I'll look for that in ERU archives if they add it. Thanks. I assume you mean the commentator told it like it was, not our lunkhead-in-chief.
  11:12am
Mariano:

Michael from Munich: As far as I know, on a PC, you'd have to use a program like Word and use the Insert/Symbol menu, which isn't very graceful. Sorry I don't know more!
  11:15am
listener james from westwood:

i'll probably never see the actual movie, but i am hugely digging the "tron" sndtrk (same thing w/ "the social network"). good cardio music @ the gym.

a cheery beautiful start to an otherwise loverly gloomy tuesday........
  11:24am

YES do it again!!! I look forward to it.

Also-you need a t-shirt design.
  11:25am

I would like some handknits and cookies, please.
  11:26am
Adrian in London:

Yes, more French girls stuff please.
  11:26am
Patrick:

how about a t shirt and a 7"!
  11:26am
Andrew:

It's very cool looking, with a passable story, much like the original.
  11:27am
Andrew:

Plus, the music is great!
  11:27am
Bill K:

How about girl/synth comp? New Tron: See it in 3D and treat it like a long music video and you'll be OK.
  11:27am
Jeezy:

I think what would be WAY more interesting AND totally creepy would be more of a focus on YOU the DJ! :-)
How about a series of pics and audio journal entries on CD so we can learn more about what you do in your "normal" life?
:-)
  11:27am
willie:

new tron is a visual circus. its a shame they didn't bother to write it at all.
  11:27am
saintpeg:

Was forced by husband to see Tron 3D yesterday, and was expecting the worst. It's not so bad! And I can't imagine the original Tron got stunning reviews and it first came out...
  11:28am
Issac from Tijuana:

TRON Legacy == not that good but its still very fun. wish there was more action and less dialoge
  11:29am
annie:

before i forget, i'd like to recommend a great movie made in iceland with bjork(?) called "the juniper tree" mesmerizing
  11:29am
Chris:

The Daft Punk soundtrack elevates the film, but it would be better suited for a coffee table sized book highlighting the designs and color schemes of the film. They really poured their hearts into the designs...and not the script.
  11:31am
truffie:

Poor old Edwyn - did you read about his myspace copyright troubles?
  11:32am
edzo:

Anyone know what the link to the "South American blog" is? Can't seem to find it!
  11:34am
CheriPi:

The t-shirt should be baby blue, with french birds on it.
  11:34am
Adrian in London:

By the way, has Anna Calvi reached the US yet? Debut album on Domino is great. Strong voice, Telecaster, torchy songs, ever so slightly gothy. It and the British Sea Power albums are playing in my house pretty constantly at the moment.
  11:36am
nick:

Thanks, Trouble;
I haven't heard that Orange Juice track since The WNYU New Afternoon Show, 1981.
  11:43am
sean:

I second Jeezy's idea. I'd donate to learn more about Trouble
  11:49am
Jeezy:

Yes! Not just Trouble but Dave the Spazz, Ken and others...
As you listen over the years, the DJ becomes a sort of virtual friend anf one wants to learn more about them and their lives!
  11:49am
trouble:

urgh no, sounds dull to me.
  11:49am
Adrian in London:

I'd donate to learn less about Andy Breckman!
  11:50am
Jeezy:

Especially Trouble though...
Being a super-hip DJ adds major MILF points.
:-P
Haha...I will support Adrian too.
  11:50am
Jennique:

I third Jeezy's idea. I would pay for a cd of songs that shaped Trouble the d.j. OR you could just play songs about Rhode Island.
  11:51am
Jeezy:

Finally! A dose of well-needed creepiness in the too often tasteful confines of the playlist comments area...
  11:53am
Jeezy:

I like Jennique's take on this... It would be very interesting to get premiums where each DJ really shows the tracks that shaped them into who they are today...
  11:54am
Fritz:

Birds might use concepts from music theory in creating their songs, according to new book (Why Birds Sing) by New Jersey professor

i think i'm happy with the edge of mistique held between listener and dj
  11:55am
annie:

mystique!! i spelled it wrong.. damn
  11:57am

alas, missed all the show. I'll be in the archives!
