A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Theres's a similar thing, another canadian, David Pritchard's- Nocturnal Earthworm Stew that came out in the mid 70's that sounded like Wozard of iz... sort of. I wonder if you've heard of it.

RUSSIAN TRACK BY MARTYNOV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W62M3F9M5L4
  11:13am
ranjit:

Hey listener james! I've been having trouble confirming that "fast forward" even existed - more recent tv shows with the same name soak up all the googles. So I'm glad to see you mentioning it.
  11:18am
bw:

Trouble: "My kid is not hip" man, poor guy he is gonna have to answer for that on the playground
  11:19am
listener james from westwood:

It did indeed. I guess it preceded the wide availability of home taping, so there may not be a lot of examples to have been uploaded to YouTube. But I did watch that, and another science show called "L-5" about a bunch of astronauts on a space station. Music was actually more "Blue Danube" a la "2001" vs. electronic. They discussed Earth and space science, then, in the final ep. they pulled back and showed that the "space station" was in fact a studio set. First time I saw someone break the 4th wall on TV.
  11:21am
dc pat:

my daughter has the same problem (talking to peers about music) so now she's rebelling, walks around singing....I don't know what. But then I catch her in her room listening to Ramones, Beatles, Shame 69, Joanna Newsom...
  11:27am
aaron in chicago:

fyi that russian track transliterates to "shkatulka s sekretom"
  11:29am
Webhamster Henry:

Nice stuff this morning! I have some library music myself, much of it unusably bad. So bad it's not even ironic, just bad.

Is it Viva? The Warhol girl?
  11:54am
βrian:

I think that's pronounced "Ki - mera, " similar to chiropractor.

Amazing sound collage by the curator of one of the finest obscure nostalgia blogs in existence. Lovely stuff.
