Listener comments!

  9:01am pierre:

Hi KEN ! good to hear your show, Paris (france) checking in !
(maybe some tonetta later on?)
  9:01am Dan B From Upstate:

Hello.
  9:01am annie:

morning ken... any chance of the mike/shirley= wf-mu concept coming to fruition?
  9:02am BSI:

OH THANK GAWD, I was wondering where I left my infant platypus.
  9:04am seang:

let's start this marathon thing right now, the pledge is in the mail
  9:04am Lizardner Dave:

Hello.
  9:05am annie:

i'm happy to say i'll be pledging this year..
  9:06am Ken:

Hi all! Pierre,Oui to Tonetta!! Annie - whatchyou talking about with the Mike / Shirley biznis?
  9:08am lz:

Are you and Andy going to carry any premiums this marathon?
  9:08am annie:

there was an event at the farm here about a month ago with the cow shirley who slipped into the pond and drowned.. we used the comments to chat about it.. we also have lots of dogs, the senior being named mike.. we decided that the wf-mu logo should be named mike/shirley.
  9:10am annie:

we had a quorum, so you have to rubber-stamp it
  9:10am still b/p:

So BSI, what you needed was a reminder of your IP address?
  9:11am pierre:

You are the person who made me discover Tonetta, and for that : Merci.
(your picture with the fingers is amazing)
  9:11am Ken:

Thanks Annie. I knew that, of course. I was just testing you. It's a great idea! I will put the Woof-Moo logo up for adoption and then somebody can adopt it and name it Mike / Shirley.
  9:12am annie:

way cool.. how much to adopt?
  9:13am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Hey welcome back Mr. F. Question are you giving away a DJ premium this year?
  9:13am BSI:

platypus platypus.
  9:15am Ken:

No DJ Premium for me this year. I am a LOSER. But I will have a great Grand Prize. Andy and I will have a Magical Seven Second Delay T-Shirt.
  9:18am Aaron in Minneapolis:

I pledged to a mediocre radio program and all I got was this lousy t shirt
  9:21am pierre:

(wait… mister T made a rap album for kids?!)
  9:22am Cheri Pi:

Ken-every Wednesday from 9-noon is the only DJ premium that I need.
  9:22am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Yes he did, I even have 3 of them on 1 CD R
  9:23am Cheri Pi:

those fingers are so cuuuuuuute!
  9:23am annie:

....i'm only here for the pictures..
  9:24am pierre:

Aaron in Minneapolis, ok, i just wish, i had them whn i was younger.
  9:24am Detroit Mac:

Do I have to start apologizing now for not being able to contribute to the Marathon as much as I normally do? (Gotta pay the overdue bills first... if I can only find some work!)
  9:25am Aaron in Minneapolis:

One song is called Treat your Mother Right, quite the gem of a song if you ask me
  9:26am Ken:

Mac, the answer is YES. Start apologizing please.
  9:27am Aaron in Minneapolis:

And its not sincere unless you are on your knees cowering and sobbing
  9:27am BSI:

Did a mouse pledge two years ago, was caught in a choking vortex of poverty last year. The plan is to repent this year.... must straighten out this karma thing.
  9:29am pierre:

i'll purchase it then, if i can find it... thanks for the info.
  9:30am Lizardner Dave:

For a second there I thought this was the Native Hipsters.
  9:30am pierre:

is Sabrina drunk, is the "band" not playing in the same room, what is that ?
  9:31am BW:

Waking up to 'boys' makes me wanna die/go back to bed/
  9:32am Mr. Two-Arms:

Tonetta is the creepiest genius of them all!
  9:32am pierre:

OOOUUUIIII TONETTA !!!
(is anybody aware of shows to come soon, regarding Tonetta)
  9:32am Cheri Pi:

Tonetta is Ken's "Amanda"
  9:33am Ken:

I think Sabrina was singing along with the original hit version of Boys Boys Boys, which I aint never heard!
  9:33am pierre:

love Amanda, love Tonetta
  9:38am matheus:

does anyone knows how to download wfmu shows on .mp3?
I know nothing about that RSS FEED stuff :(
  9:40am Ken:

Matheus - If you have an iPhone or an iTouch, get the WFMU app which allows you to do that. If not, email me at ken at wfmu dooooot org and I will send you the info.
  9:42am matheus:

as a matter of fact, I don't have any of those gadgets. I can't believe WFMU is hipsterizing itself that way!

I'm sending you an email then, Ken!
  9:45am Ken:

Matheus, and I cannot believe that YOU are hipsterizing YOURSELF by using the INTERNET! You should be ashamed.
  9:45am anne:

lovely platy!!
  9:46am Cecile:

I'm here, I'm busy. Still love you Ken.

The iPod is like water or air.
  9:46am Cecile:

Hi, annie!
  9:47am annie:

cecile!! word up!
  9:47am BSI:

PLATYPUS PLATYPUS!
  9:48am pierre:

Does Platypus have pus ?
Is there such things as PLATYPUS PUS ?
  9:48am -max-:

Sex Bomb Platypus!
  9:49am Handsome Harry:

OOIOO is gettin' it done this morning. Great track.
  9:49am Dickdong:

Bet that Platy's called Chris. He's got that look about him. Steer clear - he's a two timing bastard platy.
  9:49am blip:

Ken, can I steal that finger picture?
  9:49am Cecile:

Pierre, it isn't fair. I can barely say hi in French, and here you are making funny, funny jokes in English
  9:52am Vicki:

the only way I know about the past 20 years of music is through mashups
  9:52am Chris the Platypus:

Oh, I am gettin' PLENTY of platy_ _ _ _ y!
  9:52am Vicki:

I htink I have that Sabrina 12" from the 80s
  9:52am BW:

"It was a hit - sometime in the past" heh
  9:54am dc chris:

That graphic on Tonetta's line made me change my name.
  9:54am tr;sh:

Platypus, meet Shoebill. Shoebill, Platypus.
http://www.google.com/images?q=shoebill
  9:54am pierre:

it's ok, cecile, there is no such things as french jokes. we have no sense of humor.
  9:55am George of Troy:

The original Boys Boys Boys, with Sabrina:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiuHdUkuRi0
  9:55am Dan B From Upstate:

Is it me, or does Gadaffi look like a horrible cross between post facial-hair Bob Dylan and maybe one of the Monty Python Spanish Inquisition characters?
  9:56am Cheri Pi:

i heart Lorette Velvette <3
  9:59am Detroit Mac:

SORRY-SORRY-SORRY ...I will shave my facial hair later today. If there was a way my artistic talents could help the station... I would do it (I did submit a T-Shirt design).
  9:59am Aaron in Minneapolis:

Greek Chorus? I liked that one SSD with you holding up signs for the audience to chant, greatest hour of radio ever
  10:00am dc chris:

yeah, that was a good version of 20th cent boy.
  10:00am pierre:

  10:01am Cecile:

I dunno. I laughed my ass off at a Town Called Panic...but wait. That was Belgian...
  10:01am jan:

Hey Ken- is there a problem with the stream? I get dropouts and then complete silence by using sonos.
  10:02am Cecile:

Dan B, someone was comparing him to El DeBarge.
  10:02am pierre:

yep, Belgian humor is awesome (for example)
  10:04am still b/p:

Couldn't find script quote from film, "Ridicule" on French wit v. English humor, but elsewhere...

"As quoted by Hill (quoting Gruner), the French value Wit (intellectual, hostile, aggressive, sarcastic) as opposed to anglo-saxon Humour (emotional, affectionate, gentle, kindly, genial)."

More at http://tinyurl.com/4blnp4c
  10:05am Cecile:

I still cry with laughter everytime that farmer yells for something. What? I only saw it three times...

Ken, you should check out the Wellington Internatioal Ukelele Orchestra and not only because it has a FOTC connection. Howe Gelb even did a version of Walk on the Wild Side with them..
  10:06am Cecile:

I think French humor is whimsical smile humor. Like watching puppies frolic. Not football to the groin humor. (giggles to self at this image.)
  10:06am dc chris:

..yes, please play nothing but Tonight You Belong to Me for the rest of the show, please..it's making me feel...unusual....
  10:07am βrian:

In Wisconsin the governor has preemptively sent our WFMU pledges to the Koch brothers.
  10:07am still b/p:

The internets are full of affectionate, gentle, kindly, genial Anglo-Saxon jests.
  10:07am dc chris:

now I'm going to have to watch some Town Called Panics...
  10:08am Cecile:

Alert dcc's wife! There's hand-holding in her future!
  10:09am Cecile:

sbp, stop it, you're killing me, you hilarious m*********r
  10:09am Pat in Philadelphia:

Ken, great show, but I have a stupid question. I'm about to mail in my Marathon Brochure, and if I put my own stamp on the envelope that does indeed save you guys money? Just like the envelope says?
  10:11am dc chris:

I was just thinking that....
  10:11am Detroit Mac:

Ah - Ken is plucking our funny bone again!
  10:12am pierre:

thanks for the link still b/p, as for the quotes it's very interesting, i've never asked me the question, just guessed from knowing anglo-saxons, they made me laugh just by being natural, not tried to be funny. Anyway, Town called panic (Panique au Village) you should see it.
  10:12am dc chris:

and with my name change there'll be more than just hand-holdin' HAR HAR HAR...
  10:12am Robert:

Decades ago a friend who worked for the Poat Office told me those envelopes marked business reply, when they went thru the scanning machine resulted in billing the organiz'n for postage anyway -- that if they had a stamp they were supposed to be manually saved from that fate, but that the inattentive postal workers usually paid no att''n to that. Result: the stamp was just an extra expense.
  10:16am Pat in Philadelphia:

Bummer to hear that, Robert. I'll pop a stamp on there anyway. Hopefully it will actually save WFMU some postage like it's supposed to.
  10:17am Cecile:

we are a very funny people, pierre.
I quite often laugh when I look in the mirror.
  10:18am Cecile:

And Panic is not gentle humor. It's like the Keystone Cops knocking over a box of silverware every thirty seconds and then being very loudly surprised by it.
  10:19am WFMU Postman Scott:

the exciting answer: we submit to the PO every BR envelope with a stamp, and they give us a check, just like that. Your stamp absolutely does save WFMU $$.
  10:19am still b/p:

"French attitudes"....! Always interesting when someone tries to capture a country or culture's ways as being "thus and so". And I always thought someone should compile a book of published descriptions/observations from around the world of Americans' ways and attitudes and etiquettes.
  10:20am Pat in Philadelphia:

Great! Thanks, Scott! Stamp on!
  10:21am Robert:

I'm glad to read that, Scott.
  10:22am Dan B From Upstate:

Which donation method actually saves the station the most money? I'm guessing the check in the mail, since you get the BR funds back as long as the person uses a stamp. Credit Cards and Pay Pal charge a premium, but you get the funds quicker... What would you say the preferred method is?
  10:23am Cecile:

One of the silliest and funniest book series I read was Nino Culotta's "They're a Weird Mob", a fictionalized account of his Italian culture running smack into mid-60s Australia.
  10:23am PMD:

Morning Ken. Sorry I missed you at Amoeba... Over your jet lag yet?
  10:26am Michael:

Does WFMU have an archive of the results of the WMBR "Sex Bomb" cover contest from 198[5?]?
  10:26am Vicki:

if you were English you'd hate this :)
  10:27am WFMU Postman Scott:

@Dan B From Upstate, we still prefer checks
  10:28am Ken:

Dan B - It is a tie between a check that is mailed in before the marathon, or a credit card swag for life pledge, meaning that the pledge never ends.
  10:28am Cecile:

Vicki, it hits me the way the Mighty Boosh does: confusion with a dash of amusement.
  10:29am Postmanpaul:

Salutations Ken, officionados and city slackers.
I feel somewhat obliged to make an entrance and chalk something affectionate, kind, genial and Anglo-Saxon on the blackboard at this juncture. Yeah Rob, re the stamp stuff....makes us giiggle when we notice, not inattentively, stamps attached to Freepost addresses.
  10:31am Dan B From Upstate:

And if you do swag for life, you still get the three dj premiums every march?
  10:33am Postmanpaul:

I'd do life for swag, Dan.
  10:35am wha?:

@Michael. Are you going to the reunion? The contest you mention would pre-date my time there but a year or three, but I'm curious what it was all about / who instigated it.
  10:42am Cheri Pi:

It's impossible to get any work done during Ken's show. It's too "sexy"
  10:42am genericPlacebo:

nice cover by that D-Listed guy
  10:49am Dan B From Upstate:

You okay, Ken? You sound hungry.
  10:50am Spankyflop:

Ken, I have to say - you sound less like satan and more like Lester "Roadhog" Moran....
  10:50am pierre:

♡♡
  10:52am Detroit Mac:

Governor of WI - Scott Walker - is developing a bit of a “Google problem". Help make it easier to find him. Look for him under the tag: Scott Walker is a
  10:53am Lizardner Dave:

Yes Spankyflop! When will Spider Man be appearing at the Johnny Mac Brown High School?
  10:53am Vicki:

so Ken, this is your Premium CD, is it?
  10:55am βrian:

And it looks like Scooter may have been pranked:

Scott Walker Caught On Tape With “David Koch”?
  10:57am tr;sh:

  11:00am PMD:

btw, it was very polite of WFMU to send a reminder that you will automatically renew the swag for life.
  11:00am βrian:

I've had difficulty describing Jonathan Kane to friends. The best I could come up with is "Roadhouse Trance." I dunno.
  11:03am pierre:

good description
  11:05am bbell:

Ken's show while cleaning the house . . . a tonic.
  11:06am bbell:

but, I am reluctant to vacuum for fear of missing something!
  11:07am Dan B From Upstate:

That public broadcasting infographic is a fantastic read. Almost as good as the Beiber infographic.
  11:08am BSI:

This FEET tune has me flashing back to Cat from Red Dwarf. One of the best characters on TV...
  11:08am Pat in Philadelphia:

I'm a pledge for lifer. Feels good plus you never know what might arrive in your mailbox.
  11:13am dc chris:

OOIOO is the best thing ever......EVER...
  11:19am jk:

just made my advanced pledge, sorry to see no Ken or SSD premiums this year.
  11:21am dc chris:

Arrington is also the best thing ever.
  11:30am dc chris:

man, Huun Huur Tu is even bester than the other 2...
  11:31am Mike from Morris Plains:

Hey, I actually HAVE that Huun Huur Tu song on my iPod. Thought it sounded familiar.
  11:31am jk:

I think they're Indonesian, not Thai
  11:34am BW:

Amazing show today! Nick the Bachelor! whoaa
  11:34am pierre:

this what i call a sticky situation
  11:35am tr;sh:

what is it in french, pierre?
  11:35am Michael from Munich:

No Seven Second Delay during the marathon?
  11:39am Ken:

Yes, Seven Sec Delay will be on during the marathon. Soak Andy week one, wheel of fate week two.
  11:41am pierre:

what tr;sh, "the sticky situation" ? i would say transcribe like this : "une situation collante", but the translation of this expression in terms that a french would understand, i would rather translate "une situation embarassante" pronounced :
si-tew-a-ssion anh-ba-ra-ss-anhT
  11:42am jk:

but no commemorative plates this year?
  11:44am tr;sh:

Merci bien! Pronunciation is not as tough as unusual idioms. I found this one trying to figure it out : "Être dans le pâté." Not the same, but a good one!
  11:44am Ken:

WAY better than a commemorative plate, SSD will be offering a Magic T-Shirt!!
  11:46am Lizardner Dave:

The last couple of years I have partcipated in Soak Andy to maximize my contribution, think that's my strategy again this year.
  11:46am PMD:

Magic t-shirt for women? It disappears?
  11:47am PMD:

@ Pat in Philadelphia - yeah, I liked the magnet set.
  11:47am pierre:

"Être dans le pâté" is a good expression, indeed.
"Avoir la tête dans le cul" means the same thing, but its less polite
  11:48am paul:

rator jesus kid rave!!! best gif ever
  11:48am dc chris:

ooo, just saw the "1 donation of $1 million" thing. I wonder if Jarmusch has a lot of dough...Matt Groening?
  11:50am βrian:

Là, Pierre, tu parles de notre putain de gouverneur de Wisconsin !
  11:50am tomasz.:

"donation of $1 million"? where is this? also hi Ken & everyone
  11:51am paul:

please dont ever stop using that voice
  11:52am Ken:

Tomasz, We have a really cool T-shirt for the person who can donate One Million Dollars.
  11:53am pierre:

OUAIS Tonetta again !
i don't know that guy, but if he has difficulties understanding things, i guess you can use that expression.
(Brian > fluent in french)
  11:54am Happy Listener:

Is Tonetta Toronto's answer to Little Howlin' Wolf?
  11:54am R I S K Y:

YEAAAAAHHHHH WEEEN! GO KEN!!!!!!!!!

  11:55am pierre:

i'm guessing Tonetta is Toronto's question to the rest of the world.
