Good Morning, Matt! Sorry you have to be up at this hour but glad you're here!
  5:14am

Noooo no Trower! (not even sure who Trower is except that Pidge likes him/them)
  5:14am
Matt from Springfield:

No one needs to be sorry, when there's WFMU :)
  5:16am
stump:

G'morning Julie love the way the shows going Im up and moving!!
  5:16am
Matt from Springfield:

"Robin" Trower. He released some solo albums in the 70s with some good gee-tarin', but he was originally known for being the lead guitarist of Procol Harum. (The lead singer was Gary Brooker).
  5:17am
Julie:

Good morning, Stump!
  5:18am
helsingfred:

This is all great stuff you're playing :-D I have a bunch of google tabs open to track down songs & bands. Hooray for the internets -- a series of tubes !
  5:18am
Julie:

Don't clog those tubes, Hels!
  5:19am
Marmalade Kitty:

love this track. have yo seen the film carnival of souls? spooky!!
  5:19am
Julie:

And thank you!
  5:19am
Julie:

@MK Yes I have..years ago.
  5:19am
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: I LOVE Public Information Films! "Dark and Lonely Water" is a classic. I've had an on/off addiction to PIFs 2 years now. It's interesting how the UK runs horrific PSAs on fire, yet those are almost non-existent here in the US.
  5:20am
CPR:

Helen Reddy right now, please. Angie Baby.
  5:21am
Julie:

Helen Reddy? Don't make me smack you around.
  5:22am
bruv, init?:

tsune!
  5:22am
Marmalade Kitty:

me too Matt!! absolutely love them.
  5:23am
Matt from Springfield:

@CPR: You don't quite understand DNS--just because someone was a frequent performer on "The Midnight Special" (Olivia, Terry Jacks) doesn't GUARANTEE them a slot here!
  5:24am
Marmalade Kitty:

I love the organ soundtrack music on carnival of souls
  5:24am
pierre:

Bonjour Julie,
Bonjour all listeners extraordinaires !
  5:25am
ex:

! bonjour pierre
  5:25am
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Like myself, you were probably once afraid of them, and now that the old ones are being posted you quite enjoy looking at their razor-sharp film technique and story-writing! I love how they can pack such a punch in 30-60 seconds.
  5:26am
The Watchful Eye:

Was that an errOR?
  5:26am
Julie:

Bonjour, Pierre! Good to see you, I was missing you.
  5:26am
Julie:

Uh oh what did I do this time?
  5:26am
stump:

I don't say this about many songs but Stranger in paradise is a sexy
  5:28am
Matt from Springfield:

Bonjour Pierre!
"Listener Extraordinaire" might not be accepted by the Académie, but we at FMU love it! From one Listener Extraordinaire to another!
  5:30am
pierre:

@Julie : sorry, i just came back at my place > straight to my favourite radio…
@ Mattt : yeah, the académie and their narrow minds…
  5:31am
Marmalade Kitty:

funnily enough, my search for public information films's and the music in them was how i discovered wfmu :)
Bonjour!
  5:32am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Yeah, I thought that about this MSG song. Thanks for introducing me to them! And the Padang Food Tigers, I wished that one went on longer!
  5:35am
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Really! Which PIF led you to which show here?

They used to run kind of scary PSAs here in the 70s and 80s, then they went totally mainstream. There's a sign they are starting to pack a punch again though.
  5:36am
Matt from Springfield:

Syd! We've been missing you 40 years now. RIP
  5:37am
Starcastle Asst. Mgr.:

Good night. You're headed for the stars, kid.
  5:38am
Julie:

Thank you, Starcastle!
  5:38am
Matt from Springfield:

Robyn Hitchcock was influenced by Syd's solo albums, he gave a lovely performance of "Dominoes" in a documentary on Syd. "Dark Globe" really shows that kind of influence.
  5:39am
Julie:

Oh he's done whole Syd concerts. Very, very influenced by Syd.
  5:40am
Julie:

I love this story.
  5:40am
Audubon:

the birds was his best picture
  5:42am
Matt from Springfield:

Me too, I was listening intently.
So many songs by all those artists were written in India.

@Audubon: Snarky!
  5:42am
helsingfred:

A freaky video I found this week,
The Coathangers, "Hurricane"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SAIpIVXN4pU
(save for after the show :)
  5:43am
Julie:

@Matt that must've been quite the gathering with Beatles, Mia & Don all there.
  5:44am
Julie:

@Hels you're a massive multi-tasker, aren't you?
  5:45am
helsingfred:

Info-junkie !
  5:46am
Julie:

Once again, do not clog the tubes!
  5:49am
Matt from Springfield:

Julie, I was at my local record store this Saturday. I realized how great an Alternative section they had--because they had records by people you've been playing on this show!

I snagged my first Danielle Dax! EP of "Tomorrow Never Knows"! They had Hayzee Fantayzee too, but I didn't get that one.
  5:49am
Marmalade Kitty:

Matt, It was, "my dad in our new car" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfyfY7PI3pg

The groovy music in it is John Cameron jazz from the KPM Library.
The show I discovered through my search was: Playlist for A Rough Mix with Steinski - June 7, 2007 - WFMU

Iremember having trouble finding it anywhere!
  5:49am
Julie:

Oooh yay for Danielle!
  5:49am
Julie:

That was actually D's only US hit.
  5:50am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Interesting.
Since you like to go to them when travelling, I would "rec" the Record and Tape Exchange in Fairfax city. If you're ever in Northern VA!
http://recordandtapeexchange.com/
  5:52am
Matt from Springfield:

@MK: Yes, I knew that one as "Children Watch Us Cross". I also found out about the concept of "library music" from many of those PIFs. Just like FMU to play 70s pre-fab library tracks! Some of that was cool stuff, for sure.
  5:53am
Julie:

@Matt isn't that just YOUR house?
  5:54am
Matt from Springfield:

I live in more spacious digs, but if I worked closer to Fairfax city I just might eat and sleep there for convenience. And I do have my mail sent there...maybe that's why I haven't got my swag yet! I hope they didn't open it first!
  5:56am
helsingfred:

Commencing countdown to... Bright Day of the Soul ? :-P
  5:56am
Marmalade Kitty:

(Brass Monkey was the track on the pifilm)
  5:57am
Matt from Springfield:

I bought a slight surface noised Lene Lovich "Stateless" for just a buck! The clerk told me checking out that she later had a "sorid lesbian affair" with Nina Hagen!! Apparently they collaborated on each others albums too. Didn't know that, funny way of finding out!
  5:59am
Julie:

Thanks for listening guys!! see you next week! XX
  5:59am
Marmalade Kitty:

great show see ya Julie!
  6:00am
Matt from Springfield:

Thank you for the music!
Have a great Tuesday everybody!
