fleep:

UK down, L.A. up. Cat walk concluded, no coyotes tonight. Evening Joe, amazing how Signe and Grace sound alike
  1:08am
Joe McG:

Hey, fleep! Yes, I think that when she quit they found the absolute perfect replacement vocally. Well, I guess that's kind of an obvious thing to say, jeez! Hang a For Sale sign on me.
  1:09am
hamburger:

London still.. reprazentin'.. just about
  1:11am
Joe McG:

Thx for hangin' in there, hb!
  1:12am
tomB:

Signe's contribution has always been under-rated. Go to 1st album. Btw,Joe, we must have a discussion someday regarding a travelling junkie con's attempt to render a conspiracy o/o the Unspoken Word.
  1:12am
NWS:

Since you work for free, maybe it would be a "curb alert" sign :-)
  1:13am
Joe McG:

@tomB: Fascinated to hear this story!
  1:27am
T-Zero:

Been lying down listening, but that National Fanfare made have to get up and see who that was.
  1:33am

Hey, Joe McG! So Glad to have you back safe. But you have a wise mother.
  1:37am
Mike Sin:

Just back two hours ago.
  1:37am
cheri:

joe why do i bother commenting if i'm going to be ignored??
  1:38am
Joe McG:

@T-Zero: Yes, she's a wise woman indeed.
  1:38am
NWS:

I never ignore a huirricane.
  1:39am
fleep:

Commenting is its own reward. No reply is a reply. Om Shanti.
  1:40am
NWS:

fleep and joe's mom are both wise.
  1:40am
Mike Sin:

Every time I hear someone announce a track from a Collector's Choice product, I get all pouty because it pains me to think that that label boarded up the shop....
  1:41am
Joe McG:

@Mike: Did they really? Oh, no! They put out so many great reissues. A bit lacking in bonus material most of the time, but still!
  1:46am
Mike Sin:

Collector's Choice usually leased only commercially released master tapes and avoided unreleased vault material to minimize costs. But with the current CD number, the margins got way too slim.
  1:47am
Mike Sin:

Well all right -- Herbie's People!
  1:47am
Joe McG:

Bummer! They did some ones I really prize, like the Holy Mackerel and Chip Taylor. The Airplane live reissues were very nice, too.
  1:54am
tomB:

Is there a mention of Sid Maurer on the Brass Construction single's label? He played a part in the transition from funk to disco, if only by default.
  1:55am
T-Zero:

Wait. I'm confused. Collector's Choice stopped making their own releases? Or you mean the original label for the track boarded up?
  1:57am
Mike Sin:

For clarity - Collector's Choice, the label, is out of business.
  1:58am
Joe McG:

@tomB: No, no Sid Maurer. We got an R. Muller and a Jeff Lane, but no Sid. Too bad!
  1:59am
T-Zero:

Got it! Thanks.
  2:02am
NWS:

EDT, not EST (yet!)
  2:07am
T-Zero:

So when did they fold the label? Their web site says they still produce about 60 a year on their own lable.
  2:07am
NWS:

We're gonna puke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2:07am
fleep:

the foot bone's connected to a foot bone, the foot bone's connected to a foot bone. and so on.
  2:07am
tranewreck:

play the one in your left hand
  2:10am
Mike Sin:

re: Herbie's People
They were a UK band. "Semi-Detached Suburban Mr. Jones" is the original title. When Manfred Mann cut it, the changed "Jones" to "James" to avoid any mistaken refrence to Paul Jones (their lead singer who had just left the band.
Anyway, "Residential Area" was featured in the movie "Poor Cow."
  2:10am
mustang sally:

i'm so jealous!
  2:10am
Joe B:

for all intents and purposes, CC as a label is dead. anything coming out is stuff they already had in the pipeline, or stuff where a license hasn't expired, or some other side deal was made. at least that's what I've heard!
  2:11am
Joe McG:

@Mike: I knew I could count on you, Mike. Much thanks! @Joe B: Hey, Joe!
  2:13am
T-Zero:

Thanks, Mike and Joe B. That's too bad. I get what you're saying.
  2:16am
Joe McG:

@Mike: Wasn't "Poor Cow" a Donovan movie of some kind? Maybe he did the theme, I can't recall.
  2:20am
Mike Sin:

Donovan has songs on the soundtrack of "Poor Cow." But, it also features Terence Stamp singing and playing "Colours."
  2:22am
Joe McG:

Dammit, Blumin keeps distracting me!
  2:23am
NWS:

bloomin' distractions
  2:23am
Joe McG:

Well, he was offering me some chips, so I can't really complain.
  2:27am
Joe McG:

Mud covering Bill Withers: Not exactly "Tiger Feet"!
  2:28am
NWS:

FWIW<, his is a UK hit from the same Mud that was a glam band in 73-74, and had the #1 selling UK 45 of 1974, "Tiger Feet"...
  2:28am
NWS:

@Joe: Yep!
  2:29am
Joe McG:

It's cheesy, but I still like it!
  2:30am
NWS:

A lot of 1976 was cheesy, let's face it...
  2:30am
Brian in UK:

Mornin' Joe and everyone. Where on earth could you hear the Staples followed by Mud!!
  2:31am
Joe McG:

Hey, Brian! Don't tell Mavis!
  2:37am
Chop Scott:

Finally home for the last sets of your fine broadcast!

Cheers...
  2:40am
Joe McG:

Hey, Chop Scott! Always a pleasure to have you check in!
  2:45am
slugluv1313:

MAMA LION is AWESOME -- always loved their take on "Ain't No Sunshine" -- and yes, i have the album, complete with um "controversial" cover -- Lynn Carey IS this incredible BELTER! and even when i was a cynical-since-i-was-born kid, i got the feeling that the record company, managers, etc. were pushing her "image" more than her sheer vocal power and talent . . .
  2:47am
Brian in UK:

Didn't Brand X, Phil collins jazz sidetrip, have an album out called Morrocan Roll?
  2:47am
Joe McG:

@slugluv1313: I have a feelin' you're right about that. She didn't seem to play into it past the cover, though. In all the YouTube videos she's in she has more clothing on than the men in the band!
  2:48am
Joe McG:

@Brian: Sounds vaguely familiar...Wikipedia to the rescue?
  2:52am
Wikipedia:

The 1977 Collins "Brand X" album by that title is a different album; the title's a pun on "More Rock n Roll" (for Brand X's second album)
  2:53am
T-Zero:

I'd think any "controversy" over the cover would have been more a product of that time, than it would be now.
  2:55am
Joe McG:

@T-Zero: I'm inclined to agree! The Red Hot Chili Peppers had a similar cover in the 90s and no one seemed to care.
  2:57am
slugluv1313:

thanks, Joe! i will have to check out the YouTube vids -- i do recall seeing her on some shows when i was a kid; very early 1970s rocker-female type stuff -- really WIDE black velvet bell bottoms, loose flowing flower-y tops, etc. -- do not remember her wearing any "skimpy" type outfits at all
  12:09am
Holly in NC:

Sorry I fell asleep before the Bill W tribute! Catching up now :-)
  1:33am
Holly in NC:

Oh, the Faces song is one of my all time favorites...
