Listener comments!

David:

Thanks for digging up that Mitch & Mickey 45rpm, Mike. I saw them back in 1969 at the Roxy and I hear they may be getting back together.
  11:25am
Parq:

A "Road Jack" answer song! Thanks for digging this up, too.
  11:34am
clarke:

hey,
didn't get to weigh in on The Ponderosa Stomp, last week, as i was on the road. i tend to agree that prb just BEING in new orleans with your pals may be better than what the Stomp has become. in defense, though, i must inform all that it used to be really GREAT! it was less of a 'revue' show - which is what it has become, to me.
it started out as some of the newer bands from the louisiana area backing up the stars - and a healthy dose of Sun Ra Arkestra. this was a great concept that never got really pursued - and the result is that the performances became more generic - generic like the JazzFest has become, and less, for me, at least. as a native new orleanian - i am a bit jaded on both events. but, i guess it is more geared for the tourist, now. ?? i am just saying that there is a time when it WASN'T.
and, if anyone wants an EXCELLENT read, check out Peter Case's GREAT but short book: As Far As You Can Get Without A Passport.

Tom:

Didf Mr. Costello at least play Oliver's Army or What's So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding?
  11:39am
Michael:

he played both

The mighty Yankees go home. Love it.

Tristan:

Was Frank Bango in Walt Mink?
  11:58am
Michael:

Thanks KC! - michael

abby:

wow,
i love JR so much! i saw him in college, he got heckled, it was a disaster, my friend opened for him. wish i were near nyc!
  12:05pm
paul:

Pledged back in feb and love the compilation CD. Bigfoot, Bat Poem, etc. Great stuff.
  12:17pm
mrmucho:

when I saw Elvis Costello some years back he was pretty effective in dealing with a heckler. however he probably had 99% of the audience on his side.
  12:22pm
Adam Bresnick:

Funny how I loved Elvis Costello back in the late 70s, as I have come to find his music annoyingly facile. EC's problem is that he can toss off tunes too easily. Tried to listen to Imperial Bedroom the other week and just loathed it. His producer Nick Lowe has aged much better than he has!
  12:24pm
mrmucho:

no doubt, his best stuff is the first few LPs. i can't really listen to anything after 'trust' personally. "overly mannered" is the phrase that always comes to mind.
  12:25pm
paul:

Hard to top those first 3 EC albums.
  12:26pm
Adam:

Yes. When he was miserable and angry and had a reason for writing his tunes.
  12:28pm
Michael:

I think his best stops at Imperial bedroom - which still works for me - BUT "Blood & Chocolate" & "Brutal Youth" are two of his best albums.
  12:29pm
Adam:

By the way, I am a Mouse of Today monthly supporter and I rarely miss an MS show. FMU is a gas.
  12:31pm
paul:

Brutal Youth and When I was Cruel have their moments, but the angry young elvis was outstanding. Same with Graham Parker. But, GP has a more of a sense of humor and irony that helps. Same with Nick.
  12:31pm
Muarice Worm:

Brutal Youth KICKS!
  12:35pm
David:

Elvis Costello records have NEVER sucked. The guy is great!
  12:36pm
paul:

Nothing to do with music, but Al Davis died, in case you missed it.
  12:37pm
Peter:

"Imperial Bedroom" and "King of America" are two of his best. I confess that I tend to think less of his later stuff, but is that because I'm less familiar with it? Maybe we're all outgrowing our 'Elvis' phase.
  12:38pm
Adam:

That's a long phase....
  12:39pm
paul:

Forgot King of America! Probably his best since the first three.
  12:40pm
Farrah Fuckit Minor:

I'd say the nuggets are growing fewer and far between.
  12:42pm
Jim B:

Any thoughts on the George Harrison doc, Michael?
  12:43pm
paul:

There's a great interview on youtube with EC and Nick Lowe that I think was recorded at a NY radio station may years ago.
  12:44pm
Peter:

Michael - thanks for the MS. Did you know the album was originally going to be called "Nothing Lasts"? But Tuesday Weld, whose jailbait self is on the cover, wouldn't give permission to use her photo, if the album had that title.
  12:46pm
paul:

The Rave On Buddy H. tribute is a great CD!
  12:46pm
Live Stiffs 77:

For afters - SLYT - spotty footage:

  12:47pm
Michael:

Jim, I saw a screening a while ago - so it might have changed since I saw it - I loved all the music & performance stuff - but overall i thought it missed a great opportunity to leave you shattered emotionally - too much of his un-objective wife & her influence maybe.
  12:48pm
Michael:

Paul - yes it is good - surprisingly so, cause usually those things suck.
  12:51pm
Tuesday Weld:

Does this cover make me look fat?
  12:52pm
Jim B:

If nothing else, it reintroduced me to "Long, Long, Long", which now I can't get out of my head.
  12:54pm
paul:

Good thing I saw JR in Chicago when it was cold. Even got to meet him.
