Listener comments!

  3:17am
Julie:

When you listen on archive, feel free to comment!
  5:14am
Julie:

Oh and by the way, I'm nearly at 100 percent! So anyone is welcome to knock it out of the ballpark. With our webstream being down all early Tuesday morning, we lost some steam on our fundraising!
  9:22am
Van in Dallas:

Sad! There is no link to be able to hear this show via archive! What oh WHAT am I supposed to do with my work day NOW? Oh. Yeah. Another Dark Night episode on archive :) ...and where are the comments from THIS show? :(
  9:27am
T-Zero:

@Van in Dallas: The website and streams went down during Dum Dum's show.
  11:00am
Matt from Springfield:

Hello Julie and fellow "Archivists"!

I actually woke up to listen to BTFABG, only to find nothing loading--as much as I scoff at Twitter, I found WFMU's Twitter feed helpful in explaining the situation. Plus, I found Ken posts pretty good links on there! Still, I must...resist...the Twitterverse...
  11:03am
Matt from Springfield:

And yeah, THANKSALOT Dum Dum! You finally summoned enough Dark Forces and took the whole website down! :)
  11:07am
Matt from Springfield:

My Tuesday's all thrown off! Still no Archive as of now...I agree with you Van, what am I to do?!

So for now I'm admiring Julie's Singles Going Steady playlist. Last year was her first SGS and there was a good variety of songs, but this year she found enough 45s that resemble a typical Dark Night show! Nice job Julie! :D
  11:09am
Van in Dallas:

Yeah, I have been catching up with the tweets about everything. Hopefully this episode of Dark Night will be available sooner rather than later because I was REALLY looking forward to the live Black Tape!
  11:11am
Van in Dallas:

By the way, I'm always having to leave my comment(s) long after the show is over :( Today is bizzaro world in that we all are having to do so this time!
  11:12am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I remember you saying before how you've been bringing in female singers who play instruments, but haven't brought in a band or group; with 3 members, I think Black Tape is the first live band (in a WFMU studio session) for Dark Night of the Soul!
  11:13am
Van in Dallas:

YAY! THANK YOU Archive Genie! Happy Happy Happy! :)
  11:14am
Matt from Springfield:

Van! You're on RIGHT NOW with me! Quick, someone make this playlist active! This party is startin' late!! :)

How's it going? I've only ever seen you on a few afternoon playlists before.
  11:16am
Matt from Springfield:

YES! I see the good ol' Pop Up Player is finally here. Delayed Bizarro World listening live, here I come!
  11:19am
Van in Dallas:

Hi Matt! Wow, how strange huh? :) I agree...someone make this playlist active! KaTe! Love it! And Toyah on deck!
  11:38am
G:

So this is time-release Dark Night?

Yes, the website and stream died soon after midnight last night, and would not reload/restart. I gave up around 1AM...
  11:44am
Van in Dallas:

Time-release Dark Night...I like it :) Yes indeedy, that is what this is :)
  11:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Time-released, simmering in its musical juices even longer, to deliver an even more tender and tasty radio program! :)
  11:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Hi G!
  11:49am
Matt from Springfield:

A Hounds Of Love bonus track was a remix of "The Big Sky" by one "Meteorological". Apparently it came out as a 12" single in '86--don't know if the station has it, but that's a real trippy remix of this already great song!

You can check that track out here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2GDWtgd8zA
  11:55am
Van in Dallas:

Yes I had EVERYTHING (almost) that KaTe has ever had on vinyl :) all gone now...all stolen.
  12:03pm
Matt from Springfield:

Oh GOSH! Sorry to hear that. ALL your vinyl, or all of your Kate vinyl? Most of my Kate is on CD/digital upload, but I love vinyl--the tangibility of having her first two albums on vinyl is nice to have, and to take out and play on occasion; I'd hate if they were stolen.
  12:06pm
Van in Dallas:

Love the screaming trumpet in the Unchain My Heart medley!
  12:09pm
Van in Dallas:

Yeah, lost pretty much everything I own to theft years ago. All my music collection was part of it.
  12:13pm
Van in Dallas:

Okay, yeah. Julie, you got me. The Rebel Yell had me chair dancing at work. There, I said it. :)
  12:13pm
King Penguin:

wow. what a treat. though all was lost.
later.
Keep hitting that tip jar!
  12:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Van: Terrible. Whether years ago or just yesterday, my heart goes out to you belatedly.

King Penguin! Thanks for checking in!
  12:21pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cool version of "Pepper Tree", pretty different from the BBC Sessions version.
@Van: You know there's got to be a least one dancing song each show!
  12:21pm
Van in Dallas:

I love the Cocteau Twins too...had so much of their stuff! Elizabeth Fraser has such a wonderful, incredible, beautiful voice.
  12:24pm
Van in Dallas:

I think that Pepper Tree was actually from The Spangle Maker EP. Julie tortured herself saying Aikea-Guinea (which she did very well I thought) :)
  12:26pm
Van in Dallas:

Pool Julie. With the web streaming down during your show...you must have felt much like Eliza Rickman did here in Dallas recently, playing for just me and 2-3 others.
  12:34pm
Van in Dallas:

hey, that little WFMU Fisher-Price record player does a good job!
  12:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

At least you got to see Eliza--I wanted to go see her in Baltimore, but had car trouble that worsened that day. Never had been to the place before, over 50 miles away and wasn't sure if I could make it back--so disappointed I couldn't go! If only she stopped by DC--I could just use the Metro for that! Come by soon, Eliza! ;)
  12:49pm
Van in Dallas:

Bad luck for you that day Matt! :( Eliza was amazing in person. And I'm going to see Austra here soon in Houston! You're in DC...? I did not realize that! I will probably be going back there very soon for my job. They are apparently about to close our Dallas office. I will definitely be there in April to see Joshua Bell at the Strathmore though.
  1:12pm
King Penguin:

Vinyl has bass, digital does not. My car is jumping!
  1:15pm
King Penguin:

Julie has a chance to triple her original goal not next week, but today. Help fmu stay on air, and the net.
  1:30pm
Van in Dallas:

laughed at the "about 10 minutes" answer for how long Pinkie had been with the band :)
  1:50pm
Van in Dallas:

After just now, I'm getting pretty close to 10 separate pledges overall to WFMU this month!
  1:54pm
Matt from Springfield:

Everyone's at a different place, but checking in kind of at the same time--after lunch and a couple pauses I'm probably waaaaay behind you now Van, but that's the beauty of the Archive! :)

Yep, Springfield VA. I listen to WETA and they talk about Classical shows at the Strathmore.
  1:57pm
other david:

Hehe, hey folks!

"Tuning in" to the archives now from Ireland - great start to the show
  1:58pm
King Penguin:

Maybe once, maybe twice.
  2:01pm
King Penguin:

Hey David, was just going to say I miss the Euro angle listening to this now. Slainte!
  2:04pm
King Penguin:

Oops, train riding ending. Remember to pledge! Later.
  2:05pm
Van in Dallas:

Strathmore is awesome! Saw Bell play there last year, but next show he'll have the full St. Martin in the Fields orchestra!

Hi other david! Hi King Penguin! Hi G! Hi Matt! Hi Julie! Hi T-Zero!

I am almost finished with the show now.
  2:06pm
King Penguin:

Hi, Van!
  2:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey OD!
@Van: Sounds like a great concert, and not just St. Martin in any Fields, but St. Martin in THE Fields Orchestra! :)
  2:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

Right now I'm in the Black Tape set. I bet Julie our Moody Blues champion really enjoyed the mellotron layering in their songs!
  2:12pm
Julie:

yay thanks you guys for listening! And apparently all at the same time? the CT song was not on the spangle maker, it was a single not an EP, and most of the "dark" stuff was all on loan from Evan, I wanted a good frame for Black Tape!
  2:13pm
Van in Dallas:

She greatly did indeed :)

And for St. Martin...JB recently became their musical director! Love them playing Summer (3rd movement)...check this out when you get a minute :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laGT9IB2bFo
  2:14pm
Van in Dallas:

Hi Julie! Oh, my mistake about the CD song then :)
  2:14pm
Van in Dallas:

CT song I mean
  2:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hi Julie! Yep, we were all standing by the door, waiting for our Dark Night to arrive :)

So EVAN has the dark 45s?? I smell a possible Marathon co-host!
  2:20pm
Julie:

Wish I could stay and listen with you guys, but soon I have to head out to record Black Fortress. Adding a couple pix here though
  2:23pm
Van in Dallas:

Cool, more pics, thanks Julie. Have a wonderful recording session with Black Fortress! :)
  2:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Julie! And even better shots of the singer's hat!

Good luck with the Black Fortress of Opium set, I know it'll be fantastic!
  2:28pm
Julie:

Love of the Father is stuck, stuck, stuck in my head. Hope you enjoyed them, they were so great :)
  2:34pm
Van in Dallas:

This archived comments section has more comments than a lot of live ones end up with :)
  2:36pm
other david:

I can imagine Clay doing a mean version of "Rebel Yell" - premium for next year please :D
  3:31pm
Van in Dallas:

Well, wonderful show Julie. Thank you for the loving effort you put into it. I know that you had to spend a lot of extra time editing the live performance.
  3:49pm
fred von helsing:

Oh cool, delayed-action commenting, so we can all talk about different points in the set like a bad time travel movie !
  4:02pm
Van in Dallas:

I'm *always* feeling like I'm in a time travel movie here because I'm always here on archive...
  4:09pm
Van in Dallas:

Wow! Matt in Springfield, you were right down the road from where I lived in Alexandria! Go over to Hops on Route 1 just outside Crystal City and tell them Van says hi :)
  4:43pm
other david:

Black Tape for a Blue Girl were *excellent* - cool interview too.

So glad this is on the archives, great show as per usual Julie
  4:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

Cool - you were pretty local Van! I'll have to check that out, thanks!
  4:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

@OD: Yeah, I was afraid when the website was down that the Archive for this hour wouldn't be up either--I'm glad it is too, and that there's even a time-stamped playlist starting @3 am! So fortunately all this is on another system than the website.
  4:54pm
other david:

@Matt - yup, I feared this show would be lost. It's sort of neat to be able to pause and step out for a while, then come back to the show, but still can't beat listening live. Looking forward to the next week already :)

I wish I could donate a lot more and help out some other shows but I'm really really badly broke. Humbug.
  6:50pm
King Penguin:

Im probably one of few non-euros who listen live. Stuck at work late last night but when that happens, listen on train, which is pretty cool. Sad ride this morning!
  4:35am
King Penguin:

Interview with Black Tape for a Blue Girl was excellent as was their set. Got kind of deep there and it was fascinating.
  10:34am
King Penguin:

Hey other david, notticed i just about duplicated your comments about live set and interview. Great minds write alike.
  6:38pm
fred von helsing:

A report from the WFMU Time Tunnel, listening in the future: It's Friday Oct 28 at 2 in the morning (in Europe where all the socialists live) and it's the first DJ speakover and... hey the first set was great !
  7:53pm
fred von helsing:

Hey Europeans, listen to this in the dead of night (when it's sposta be listened to), it works
  10:00pm
kingpenguin:

Best with headphones at 5 am anywhere.
  11:01pm
Julie:

I like to think I bring the dead of night to any part of the day :)
