texas scott:

IHello Irwin...if that's the real you.
  7:10pm
Tir Chonail Abu:

Hi Monica haven't tuned in for a few weeks as I have moved from Donegal in Ireland to a new job and home in London. It has been a crazy few weeks a lot of upheaval but at least I have your show and the station for company.
  7:11pm
G:

@Irwin: I bet you say that to all the girls.
  7:11pm
gail:

One of my favorite Ry Cooder numbers! I just shiver and shake for Tubas
  7:12pm
caribou bellunciaga:

This reminds me of music from my second divorce.
  7:13pm
G:

I've spent time in Donegal, way up in the northwest of Eire. London's a little more congested, if I recall correctly.
  7:14pm
andy s:

this ry cooder sounds great. thought it was joseph spence at first. monica....haven't caught yer show in awhile, but you are among the best. thanks.
  7:14pm
Don (trip dub):

The battle of the Connies - Smith and Francis. North vs. south. Very cool.
  7:15pm
Davice:

Connie Smith - sweet.
  7:16pm
cheri:

monica are you ready for the holidays??
  7:16pm

joshua:

you might be interested in this article about a debate about whether or not too many kids go to college - my favorite chips.. kettle chips, salt & pepper... http://nextgenjournal.com/2011/10/do-too-many-kids-go-to-college/
  7:39pm
Dagmar Paley:

I'd have to agree - Wise it is!
  7:39pm
rick r:

utz. salt n vinegar
  7:39pm
PB:

Lays. I am a chip addict.
  7:39pm
mchuge:

I love Utz and I have a crush on the Utz girl.
  7:40pm
gail:

crunchy cheese doodles. Bugles are also delish
  7:40pm
Don (trip dub):

I could run thru the Herr's (from PA) New Yorker in a NY minute. Likewise Utz no salt "$1" bag. Do about one bag a week, sometimes 2.
  7:40pm
Jeremy:

Perhaps a regional treat but I vote for Zapp's dill pickle flavor!
  7:41pm
Gotham FX:

Sage Valley Multi Grain chips. Delicious and quite natural. For pretzels, try Keystone's Oatzels. Snack without guilt!
  7:41pm
Fudgie Dellamoor:

i love the chocolate- covered pringles from neiman marcus at christmas.
it's like an orgasm for your mouth...
no WAIT!
!
  7:41pm
Doug in the 'Burgh:

Jeremy is all over it with the Zapps! A NOLA delicacy.
  7:42pm
PB:

Trader Joe's ripples are pretty good too.
  7:43pm
texas scott:

What's your brand?

{cool radio in progress}
  7:43pm
tony:

Some folks like Boo Berry, some like Count Chocula. Still others, Frankenberry.
  7:43pm
Don (trip dub):

Wise NY Deli brand and kettle cooked brand are close seconds. It's like big curly fries. I've been finding myself having at the Keeblers lately.
  7:43pm
G:

Watch out for the brands. I like the white cheddar popcorn from Wise, and evidently other people do too, because Wise has upriced it in stages from 1.69 to 3.29 in less than five years.

So I got white cheddar seasoning from Mr. Internet and cut Wise out of the picture....
  7:44pm
tomB:

Wise is the best, indeed. But curiously, though the discounted price stays at .99, the weight keeps declining! Moreover, I thought that at least the corner stores were selling Wise at $1.59, but you imply that it's .99 everywhere! Think of the money that could be saved w/o the orange sticker: Wise could just print .98 in the corner!
  7:44pm
caribou bellunciaga:

Zapp's Dill...no question.
  7:45pm
Tir Chonail Abu:

@G hope you enjoyed Donegal just saw your comment, and yes London is congested but a great city near my fave team the Arsenal as well so all good. And Mo hearing that chip bag being rustled emm made me hungry.
  7:45pm
Dagmar Paley:

He's my brand and butter!
  7:45pm
andy s:

i just discovered utz's chips that are fried in lard, available across the street at april candy-grocery on nassau ave in greenpoint. they don't mention anything about it in the blurbs on the package, but they are made with that sweet, sweet pig fat that is so good....great with bourbon
  7:47pm
T-Zero:

Cape Cod kettle chips
  7:47pm
sugarwolf:

I am dying for some All Dressed potato chips.
  7:48pm
G:

I'm 1/4 Irish, and have written about Irish topics, so I've spent time over there. Donegal was 1999, and without looking at my stuff from that trip I do recall hills, grass, lots of sheep, and a few small villages and towns. Does that sound about right? :-)
  7:48pm
T-Zero:

@andy s... that's why I like cracklins — the lard
  7:49pm
T-Zero:

... or pork rinds
  7:49pm
gretchen:

Sorry to report Monica but: MADHOUSE MUNCHIES are the absolute best. There is another chip made with avocado oil that is a close second.
  7:49pm
AbeSomething:

Munchos! I haven't had them five or more years but, when I imagined the ideal chip, Munchos came instantly to mind.
  7:50pm
Fudgie Dellamoor:

I once had my 3rd husband's nickname tattooed on my left cheek.
After the divorce,I put a circle, crossed out over it.

no Twinks!!
  7:51pm
Don (trip dub):

I'll eat the chips this Reverend eats.
  7:52pm
caribou bellunciaga:

How does it feel to live a lie, fudgie?

I smell deep,dark trouble.
  7:53pm
monica:

yo, anne! chicago? where? that's my home town... Lani in the Catskills, right back at you!... Indeed, Egghead... Okies, California - where?... ADM - UTZ!!!.... joshua - kettle chips is sophisto... Dag, here here... rick r - good ole S&V... PB - no shame in Lays.... mchuge - who is the UTZ girl?...
  7:53pm
joshua:

which album is this version of enlightenment from?
  7:53pm
trish:

Eating up my first borscht of the season, I'll brand myself beet red. I like how beets colour and brand my insides for y'know, the duration.
  7:54pm
AbeSomething:

Joshua - it's on "Jazz in Silhouette".
  7:54pm
Tir Chonail Abu:

Yep G that is about right but you forgot the constant drizzle of rain. Enjoy the of the show, bye all got to turn in as it is 1am, I will catch the rest Mo on the archive.
  7:58pm
G:

I was in Donegal in August 99, and lucked out on blue skies while there. It definitely rained and fogged in other parts of the countryside that month, though! :-)
  7:59pm
Fiona deWitt:

Caribou!
I just jimmied the lock to the powder room and got to the keyboard.
You leave Fudgie alone.
Personally, my fav is a deep fried Twinkle at a State Fair.
  8:00pm
monica:

trish, beets leave a trail, no?... gretchen, not up on 'em - good, huh?....
  8:04pm
monica:

hello AbeSomething. Munchos? ---- Any Pringles fans in the house?
  8:05pm
T-Zero:

Sour cream > Pringles
  8:05pm
Addict:

Once you pop, you can't stop
  8:05pm
trish:

A 'trail'. Heh. A surprise/scare for later, depending on where the ol' memory is at.
  8:06pm
cheri:

well monica,, sorry i got to split now,, have a great night and a wonderful week!!
  8:06pm
Nashville Noah:

Finders Keepers?
  8:07pm
cheri:

night noah
  8:08pm
AbeSomething:

"Munchos?" as in, 'how could you eat those?' or as in, 'I'm not familiar with them?' They're very thin, salty chips in an orange bag.
  8:08pm
Nashville Noah:

night night Cheri!
  8:08pm
gretchen:

Yep.The avocado chips are made by Good Health Natural Foods. I get them at the Co-op. Madhouse Munchies are/were a Vermont product. You should be able to find them. I was in Philly a few weeks ago and saw some. Wise will never be the same after a nosh of Madhouse. Bright blue bag. You can't miss 'em!
  8:09pm
Nashville Noah:

I hope they're (Finders Keepers) are hooking you up with all their goodies!
  8:11pm
Nashville Noah:

  8:12pm
Pirate:

@Noah: You can never include too many are's.
  8:12pm
ADM:

  8:16pm
Listener Schned:

Couple few: Doritos Cool Ranch are deelish, but sleeper in the tortilla-chip department is Key Food Tortilla Chips (plain)-yup, Key Food. Cheetos (the non-crunchies) are glorious, but ya always gotta vacuum up the Cheetos dust once the bag is empty :)
  8:17pm
T-Zero:

Heh, this Bappi Lahiri cover is pretty good
  8:17pm
PB:

Big Donovan fan. Never heard this before. Kinda interesting.
  8:18pm
sugarwolf:

The last few times I've had Pringles, it didn't end well, which is probably for the best.
  8:18pm
T-Zero:

Whooops. The playlist hadn't refreshed. It was actually Eartha Kitt I was talking about (blush)
  8:19pm
Nashville Noah:

@ PB, I second that, love Donovan but never heard that Earth cut. Leave it to Monica to bring out the goodies!
  8:20pm
monica:

Listener Schned - fianlly a Doritos mention!... all about the cool ranch... PB, tuned ono the Eartha by Give The Drummer Some!...
  8:20pm
beth:

@ andy s -- glad to hear UTZ still makes the lard chips! I was wondering about that. Was a fave of me & my friends 20+ years ago when we were in college...went well with good beer too!
  8:20pm
Jeremy:

My dad used to say that the sign of a good chip was that if you held it in your mouth long enough it would turn back into a slice of potato.
  8:21pm
glenn:

miss vickie's lime and black pepper are the potato chip all other potato chips look at and and sigh.
  8:22pm
JEN IN NASH:

Oh man I love the Garden of Eden Lime & Chili - OR Trader Joes spicy Flax Tortilla chips!! Oh man chips are the best.
  8:22pm

  8:23pm
andy s:

those germans in the keystone state sure liked their snacks....chips, pretzels. gee, i wonder what they were getrankting with all that. hmmmm......
  8:24pm
Nashville Noah:

My friend in high school used to take sour cream & onion chips and put it on his bagel and cream cheese and make a lovely sandwich!
  8:25pm
monica:

hey there, jen - good to hear a pretzels vote... noah, sour cream & onionm sounds good in theory but always tastes kinda chemical...
  8:25pm
glenn:

that said, the profit margin on chips is astronomical. something like 1500%.
  8:27pm
beth:

wow, never would've guessed that was Eartha...loved it!!!!!
  8:27pm
PB:

@ Nashville, that sounds vile. Speakiing of Vile, can you believe Kurt Vile licensed some of his music for use in a Bank of American TV commercial. How disappointing (and sad).
  8:27pm
JEN IN NASH:

HOORAY FOR MONICA! Hey what about Rap Snacks??
Google image RAP SNACKS
  8:28pm
Commercial Chip Makers:

As soon as people feel like making their own chips at home, we'll cut those margins. Nothing cheaper than potatoes bought by the ton.
  8:30pm
Nashville Noah:

MONEY MONEY!!! @ PB, I don't really see a problem with licensing ones music, he signed a contract with Matador didn't he? Why shouldn't he get paid for his music? Also, I doubt he has health insurance, so let him make some green!
  8:31pm
glenn:

p.s. i find that cheer leader unsettlingly gorgeous.
  8:31pm
PB:

@Nashville. True, if they used his music in a potato chip commercial, but Bank of America. Bank of America is the worst of a really bad lot.
  8:32pm
sugarwolf:

When I was in London, I liked Smoky Bacon crisps.
  8:33pm
Steve L:

Beautiful autumn night in Chautauqua County. Eartha agrees!
  8:34pm
Nashville Noah:

Mr. BIG STUFF!!!!! RIP friend!
  8:35pm
monica:

Steve L, more beaut now that you're here... glenn, she's kinda hot, right?... Commercial Chip Makers, go and be great...
  8:36pm
PB:

IMO the best thing about a lot of rap was, and is, the brilliant use of sampling.
  8:36pm
glenn:

mmmmmm. kinda?
  8:37pm
david:

RIP
  8:37pm
trish:

Oo-ah- Crik Crok kettle chips . Italian as far as I know. Kettle chips before I knew what the hell kettle cooked chips were.

  8:44pm
Nashville Noah:

  8:44pm
Peter Stroth:

  8:44pm
sugarwolf:
