Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

  6:06pm
Ike:

These all seem like leading questions; he answers "yes" to almost every one. Sounds charismatic though! And I really liked segue into that audio clip.
  6:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Clay: Yes, still just in the right stereo channel. Very faint in left, probably bleed-over during mixing.
  6:07pm
alberto:

...and now we're in the left
  6:07pm
david:

sounds stereo now...
  6:07pm
kata:

sounds better, Clay, stereo now!
  6:07pm
Matt from Springfield:

Okay, better now. Even in the left and right, not sure if it was orig mono or stereo, but sounds better now, more ambient noise in background too.
  6:08pm
kata:

I love this guy's enthusiasm and candor!
  6:08pm
Hacksaw:

So this is what bass sounds like on the streets of NY
  6:09pm
Matt from Springfield:

In fact Clay, I was missing that grainy crackle at the beginning of this episode--it's a trademark of yours!
@kata,Ike: Yes, love the enthusiasm!
  6:09pm
Clay:

OMG you guys. I think I'm going to lose my mind with this twechnical stuff. I thought I had it figured out. Mow it's one channel. It's coming out of my laptop. Any of you tech types know what might be the prob?
  6:09pm
Clay:

*now
  6:09pm
Robin The Fog:

Don't worry, Clay! This is life-affirming stuff!
  6:10pm
Clay:

i WILL figure this stuff out. I'm stubborn and determined. May have to go to Tekserve (cringe).
  6:10pm
Caryn:

You wouldn't believe he's 50. So enthusiastic and energetic that he sounds younger.
  6:10pm
Ike:

Left & right speakers sound good on 91.1 FM.

"700 Club"?! Yikes!!! LOL.
  6:10pm
seang:

the finish line
  6:11pm
kata:

sounds good to me man! you got it! :)
  6:11pm
Clay:

THis is the back-up copy I dubbed to cassette.
  6:11pm
david:

+1 RTF, I didn't even notice... maybe CP recorded in stereo and is taking a mono line out from the recorder?
  6:11pm
Hacksaw:

The online stream is coming through out of both right and left
  6:11pm
Caryn:

Listening through my laptop, so as long as I hear something, I'm happy, Clay.
  6:12pm
Hacksaw:

BJ :)
  6:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

Butch Cassidy!
  6:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

Once again, cassette saves the day!
  6:14pm
Clay:

I can't believe how kind and patient you guys are. Thank you.
  6:14pm
Dan in San Carlos:

Hi Everyone. Hi Clay!
  6:15pm
seang:

french horn=bacharach
  6:15pm
Clay:

Hi Dan!
  6:15pm
kata:

ha! Geralde Celente !
  6:16pm
david:

what bacharach tune was that just out of curiosity?
  6:17pm
Clay:

Right, kata! @David - Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head.
  6:18pm
david:

how bout that, didn't recognize the excerpt. thanks, clay.
  6:19pm
Clay:

I'm tempted to switch back to laptop. Not as muddy.
  6:19pm
Caryn:

My wish for the new year is that my brother would return my Bacharach box set. He's had it since 2005.
  6:23pm
seang:

america needs to chill--less work more leisure
  6:25pm
kata:

hazelnut cigarettes? wtf?
  6:26pm
seang:

you're not alone
  6:26pm
boomer:

boom boom boom
  6:26pm
Matt from Springfield:

For most, that means less money and harder to keep up with expenses. Really I would say America needs less worry.
  6:27pm
Caryn:

The hazelnut cigarettes sound weird. It would be ironic if she found out that all this time she had been smoking those herbal cigarettes actors use. Would make quitting easier.
  6:27pm
Matt from Springfield:

How to get rid of our worry? Besides creating a society where basic needs can be met regardless of income, one thing to do is love one another, love your friends and family, don't worry about racking up the $$$
  6:28pm
Ike:

Har har, I grew up on the Eastern Shore and I would not describe much of it as "very pretty." OK, a few parts, but not overall. Delaware is mostly pug-ugly.
  6:28pm
Matt from Springfield:

</hippie trip> :)
  6:29pm
kata:

holy crap Clay! you spoke with a one percenter?!!?! wow.
  6:29pm
Clay:

You are absolutely right, Matt.
  6:29pm
Caryn:

Saturday is my last day at work. After that: unemployed. But for some reason, I'm not too stressed. That may be because at least I'm not homeless anymore.
  6:29pm
seang:

this chick is ignorant
  6:29pm
Hacksaw:

Clay has a special gift in identifying 1%ers... what gave it away?
  6:30pm
Clay:

Glad you have a roof over your head, Caryn. :>)
  6:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

EASTERN SHORE IKE!!! WHERE?? WHERE?

I like the Eastern Shore--"Delmarva"--Washington/Baltimore's beach holiday destination. I like the agriculture plains, so flat! And the lovely beaches and estuaries, but so much development has taken place over the years.
  6:31pm
Caryn:

Aww, thanks Clay :)
  6:31pm
Joe:

I like you Clay Pigeon. You seem like a sweet guy!
  6:31pm
kata:

doh! she said the S word!
  6:32pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Oh dear! In Finland?? I didn't think homelessness existed there. Were you homeless in WINTER? My heart goes out to you.
  6:34pm
seang:

read Propaganda by Edward Bernays
  6:34pm
Hacksaw:

1% eating some Taco Bell
  6:34pm
Caryn:

Luckily I was homeless in the summer. I'd hate to be homeless in the winter months, but there are a few thousand homeless people here too. Actually, this year it was published that Finland now has become the European country with the biggest economic disparity between the rich and poor. Maybe we need our own Occupy movement (though there have been a few isolated Occupy protests here too).
  6:35pm
Matt from Springfield:

Paul Hardcastle!
  6:35pm
Clay:

Occupy Helsinki Immediately!
  6:35pm
map:

Paul Hardcastle ;)
  6:35pm
seang:

time to breakdance the blues away
  6:35pm
Clay:

Right, Matt!
  6:37pm
Caryn:

Oh look, Simon Schama!
  6:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: Hope things work out for you--STAY POSITIVE! It's hard to regain positivity if you lose that.
Yeah, Occupy Helsinki! I thought Finland was more equitable than Continental Europe, but I guess things are changing.
  6:38pm
seang:

so sorry about that Caryn, I thought Finland was pretty egalitarian--all I know about Finland comes from Aki Kaurismaki
  6:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Hacksaw: The 1% eating the 35% :)
  6:38pm
Gail:

You are the sweetest, most engaging guy Clay!
  6:39pm
Clay:

That's the 1% supporting Monsanto's genetically engineered corn!
  6:39pm
kata:

this show is awesome! I'm at my desk but can't work...
  6:39pm
seang:

bachelors of the world unite!!
  6:39pm
Ike:

@MfS@6:31: Did we talk about this before? I'm from Salisbury. Not pretty, largely strip mall hell, but great small zoo, and some OK parks.
  6:39pm
Clay:

Thanks, Gail. With all my technical screw-ups today, that's so nice to hear.
  6:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@seang: And Party!!! Everyone come over at New Years!! Let's all get lucky!! :D
  6:41pm
Caryn:

yeah, we're pretty egalitarian: decent welfare system, 100% literacy rate, free university education, sexual and racial equality on a good level. But in recent years, especially this year, some things have been going downhill. Still, compared to the US, I think most European countries are decidedly egalitarian. Obama would be considered a right-winger here, so it's hilarious hearing people in the US call him a socialist.
  6:42pm
Matt from Springfield:

I forget the date, but this classic anti-entitlements guy reminds me of a recent comment by Tom Scharpling: that people who complain about welfare often add "I'd like a piece of that gravy train!" afterwards. So, you're just resenting other people are getting money handed to them instead of you!
  6:43pm
Robin The Fog:

Clay, America should use you for their foreign policy! You're really showing that most people are essentially decent at heart. We could all do with remembering that!
  6:43pm
seang:

yeah more sex, less work--Occupy Boston still goin strong
  6:43pm
Caryn:

Keeping my fingers crossed for Kaurismäki's "Le Havre" winning the Oscar! Now that is a salute to humanity and egalitarianism. The decency of average people.
  6:43pm
Clay:

Thanks, Robin. Thanks for listening.
  6:44pm
Adam in Portland:

Came in late today. Archive time later. Hey, everyone! Clay, you continue to inspire...
  6:44pm
kata:

@Caryn, good point about Obama -- in the US people mis-shape labels into whatever is convenient (or quick ammunition) and stick with those terms sadly!
  6:44pm
Clay:

Glad to hear Boston is rocking, Seang.
  6:44pm
Adam in Portland:

Hey, Kata! Fellow Portlander!! Great to see you here.
  6:45pm
Clay:

Thanks, Adam. Good to see you.
  6:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Ike: I know Salisbury--going to Chincoteague I passed through; they have a small downtown that looks nice, and a couple small colleges. Not much charm in a lot of those strip mall/outlet parks that are everywhere now.
  6:45pm
kata:

hi Adam!
  6:46pm
david:

90 minute tape
  6:46pm
glenn:

caryn's right. the u.s. is the only place i can think of where the democrats would be considered left wing.
  6:47pm
kata:

I will have to check out some Kaurismäki soon... any recommendations @Caryn or anyone?
  6:47pm
Clay:

Good perception, David.
  6:47pm
Clay:

Happy New Year, Glenn.
  6:47pm
seang:

your shows are awesome Clay--I saw you interviewing people at Zuccoti--doin the good work
  6:47pm
Matt from Springfield:

Hey Adam! Always welcome here.
@glenn: And Southern Democrats would be considered Democrats!
  6:48pm
glenn:

i recommend leningrad cowboys go america.
  6:48pm
kata:

US gets politics renders all teminology null: the words "liberal" and "conservative" are absolutely un-applicable to those they supposedly describe!!
  6:48pm
Clay:

I love the opportunity, Seang. I'm very lucky, and my wife is an FMU fan and is very supportive.
  6:49pm
glenn:

howdy, evahbody.
  6:49pm
Caryn:

We'll have our presidential elections in January. (will be counting votes that weekend). All of the top 4 candidates (and actually, all of the other candidates too) would be considered left-wingers in the US. Even the right-wing ones. Then again, our current president used to be the president of the Finnish equivalent of GLAAD, which I don't see happening in the US.
  6:49pm
Adam in Portland:

Caryn, I'm glad to hear you're doing better, and seem to be in a great state of mind to face upcoming challenges. Pullling for you in mysterious and majestic Finland.
  6:49pm
Clay:

One problem I have with the sdigital recorder is that I can't hold it like I did my micro-cassette, so I ended up covering the mic nearest me a lot of the time. That's why it's muffled.
  6:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

@kata: In the US "conservatives" are not temperate or cautious, and many "liberals" are not very giving or free!
  6:50pm
Hey Retired Faux News Consumer:

How drunk are you? And how come Bush and the Republican Majority did nothing to overturn abortion? Keep hatin on those liberals and lovin your (own view) of Jeebus. Kiss your Savior with that mouth?
  6:50pm
david:

corporate media wants to frame U.S. debate as democrat vs. republican = liberal vs. conservative = left vs. right
  6:51pm
seang:

@kata--all Kaurismaki is worthy but La Vie de Boheme is awesome-and it's not available on DVD in the US!!
  6:52pm
Adam in Portland:

Hey, Matt! Always a pleasure to see you as well! Giant corporations like Verizon are helping further the revolution with insistence on practically forcing customers into a system that requires auto electronic bill payment, or additional opt-out fees.
  6:54pm
kata:

exactly @Matt. Sadly also repubs and dems are now also one and the same: BOUGHT!
  6:54pm
Clay:

Guess I better wrap it up here. Night People in the house. Get well Fabio!!!! And all of you - my friends - THANK YOU for listening and for your continued support. i WILL figure this technical stuff out. Until next week take care and OCCUPY 2012, Happy New Year!!!! Always Remember Clay
  6:54pm
Caryn:

@kata: depends what you're looking for. For dark comedy, I'd recommend "Matchfactory Girl" or "Hamlet Goes Business". For music, I'd recommend Leningrad Cowboys or Mika Kaurismäki's new Cesaria Evora documentary "Mother Africa". For humanism, "La Vie de Boheme", "Le Havre" or the trilogy of "Drifting Clouds", "The Man Without a Past" and "Lights in the Dusk". The trilogy really expresses his feelings about society and people the best.
  6:55pm
Kudos Clay:

Your coverage of OWS will go down in history as being the only forthright, honest, and relatively unbiased reporting produced by any person with a microphone. The 'revolution may be televised' with corporate distortion but you I can trust.
  6:55pm
kata:

thanks everyone for your suggestions! :)
  6:55pm
seang:

I remember walking around Portland with that Garbage song in my head-" I'm only happy when it rains"-
  6:56pm
Clay:

TY Kudos!
  6:56pm
Caryn:

The revolution is broadcast on radio, thanks to Clay.
  6:56pm
david:

"the greatest city in the greatest world" I like that
  6:57pm
Matt from Springfield:

Farewell to 2011, Best of fortunes for 2012 EVERYONE!!
  6:57pm
Caryn:

And thanks for the well wishes, Adam!
  6:57pm
kata:

love the show Clay ! happy new year to you and all commenters far and wide!
  6:58pm
Adam in Portland:

I don't think Occupy will die. It will adapt, and the continued dismantling of core facets of genuine humanity towards others by flat-out greedmongers will drive its reanimation.
  6:58pm
seang:

I love you all , I love WFMU--Peace!!
  6:58pm
glenn:

yep. happy new year to all of y'all.
  6:59pm
Adam in Portland:

Happy New Year, beautiful people!
  6:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

2012, another "Year of the Clay" hopefully! Great show, been a while since you last interviewed people at the train station.

Good night everyone! Happy New Year! Always remember!
  7:00pm
Adam in Portland:

Love you, Clay!
