Hi everyone. Look forward to listening to this show at its new time (for me) on Thursday mornings. Yeah, still can't load winamp on to the new work machine Last week's show was great !

Hi Lizardner Dave! It's heartening that you make such constructive use of the archives, also that you're greeting us now without listening (yet).

recently, i've been watching a good deal of the streaming NASA channel on my Roku
  12:22pm
anne:

have you guys ever seen the movie "I Want You" of which this song was the main song? it was a weird so-so semi-raunchy british movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm
Amanda:

Hi Anne! We've started doing marathon data entry, so I have thought of you a lot this week! Never seen that flick, but it sounds like it could be worth a look in a roomful of sarcastic friends.
  12:26pm
G:

Does it actually say "****" on the CD?
  12:26pm
Van in DC:

It is a decent mashup. "I would give anything to make it with you"

"Copy that"

anne:

I wish I could be there with you guys this marathon!

@Kirkie: I have heard for a few years that the day before Val Day is "Valenswine's Day," with welloff dudes limoing their mistresses and bestowing baubles. Restauranteurs supposedly say Valenswine's Day is more remunerative for them than actual ValDay, which is reserved for wives.

  1:11pm
Danne D:

bummed I missed the first hour - have to catch it on the archive :) "I Want You" is possibly Costello's creepiest song.

Btw, guitarist Sean Eden who was on that Luna track is the guitarist for my friend Renee's band Elk City :)

Doug S.:

My daughter Lincoln and I made a cake for Jessie last night. I brought home these animal-print candles (zebra, tiger, giraffe) and Lincoln immediately designs this amazing African safari cake decoration, with a tiger candle attacking a zebra candle (replete with a red-food-coloring bloody mess), a stream and baobab trees (using broken pieces of choco-covered pretzel). A virtuoso performance.

listener james from westwood:

i'm more likely to get fosamax or something from my neighbors. for a long time i was the youngest resident in the bldg.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm
Amanda:

Heh, I have a semi-good "At Last" story.
  1:34pm
Doug S.:

Tony Coulter played Rush a few weeks back (and made it sound good!). I have always said that most avant garde thing we can do at WFMU/GTDR is play something popular.
  1:39pm
ndbob:

I remember when Irwin and Michelle had a "guilty pleasures" show on the Incorrect Music Show" that was like that Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm
Amanda:

Is this popular enough for you Doug???
  1:41pm
ndbob:

I always liked this.
  1:41pm
Carmichael:

Ken played Todd Rundgren this morning. I was pleasantly surprised.
  1:41pm

Good for you, Amanda! His new CD Arena is back to the guitar hero mode. Sounds like Something/Anything as played by Utopia.

Van in DC:

I think the Jim Price show would be the perfect place for WFMU to play all the popular music.

listener james from westwood:

LOLOL! "Jesus creeping shit! We've wandered into a time capsule!"

Glancing at the playlist: Sondre Lerche - he's from here, though residing in Brooklyn. I wouldn't be surprised if it was on Bergen Street.

Where are we going Elitist freeform! Daft. Music is there to be listened to surely Shirley.

  1:55pm

Is it coincidence that it's Lauper's Time after Time as the talkover music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm
Amanda:

That was pure, happy coincidence. I do really like her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm
Amanda:

I couldn't resist this borderline-unhappy one!
  2:01pm
Brian en Angleterre:

I'm with you about Ms Lauper, Amanda. 'Whatever happened to all the fun' in the world (FZ)
Think Lucinda's song might be about her dad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm
Amanda:

OK, pretty much totally unhappy
  2:04pm
seang:

How about that tune, "Glad to be Unhappy"?
  2:05pm
Carmichael:

As we all know, the Ike & Tina relationship was an unhappy one. Man, mybe you should play the Nips' Happy Song to get us out of this funk.
  2:05pm
listener james from westwood:

"tammy," tom jones ... you'll have me putting in the fear & loathing dvd in moments at this rate. :) will make an interesting backdrop to copyediting....

Hunter T, his "Get out of Denver" is on the album Get It, which I also love!

I dug the Liz as well.
Hey, is GTDS doing the co-hosts thing next week? I may have missed any news about that.
  2:27pm
Van in DC:

From Wiki:

A-tom-ic Jones

Released: January 14, 1966 (UK)
  2:30pm
Doug S.:

@Van
Since Amanda does her show live from within WFMU, she can and will have a co-host. For the rest of us Streamers, we all do our shows remotely, sending the show over the Internet to connect to the stream. This introduces a 10- to 20-second delay, which makes it impossible to have a co-host unless they are in the same place. (We considered having co-hosts joing DJs over the phone, but that would be distracting and too hard to pull off.)
  2:31pm
Danne D:

Who will Amanda have as co-host? :)
Btw had to turn off sound cuz of stupid work stuff :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm
Amanda:

Catching up now... Hugo -- you're right! I haven't stalked Sondre to find out, though.
  2:37pm
glenn:

i would imagine he has plenty of other stalkers to get him over the pain, amanda.
  2:40pm
BDR:

Too late for this show, but one of the great f-bombs is in Guided by Voices "As We Go Up We Go Down." http://youtu.be/l7FqlArPFwI Plus it's a fucking good song.
  2:46pm
F Bomb:

Fuckin A!
  2:47pm
F Bomb:

Maybe Amanda is going on the one F Bomb per mic break plan
  2:49pm
listener james from westwood:

mary's show is a delight! her archives are in heavy rotation while i proofread.
  2:52pm
listener james from westwood:

i think the gtd stream is trying to break through!
  2:53pm
Doug S.:

More Internet problems back at WFMU are causing the Drummer stream to rebuffer. The odd audio you are hearing is the 24-hour continuous flowing Drummer stream asserting its dominance over Amanda's override of the stream...
  2:54pm
listener james from westwood:

re-buffered a bit and now it's normal. odd.
thanks for the mighty-fine show, amanda! good luck in the marathon!!
  2:54pm

Have a good week
