Listener comments!

  11:53am Lizardner Dave:

Hi everyone. Look forward to listening to this show at its new time (for me) on Thursday mornings. Yeah, still can't load winamp on to the new work machine Last week's show was great !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Amanda:

Hi Lizardner Dave! It's heartening that you make such constructive use of the archives, also that you're greeting us now without listening (yet).
  12:00pm Carmichael:

Well hello there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Amanda:

Hi Carmichael!
  12:03pm Alf from Upstate:

Welcome back Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Amanda:

Back at you Alf :-)
  12:06pm listener james from westwood:

good wednesday all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Amanda:

Hi LJ. Hope everyone is having a nice week.
  12:16pm Van in DC:

Hey there Amanda & peoples.
  12:18pm Van in DC:

ha ha ha...I heard weird chattering under the music...forgot I had a live NASA feed going in another tab
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Amanda:

That sounds like a decent mashup...
  12:20pm anne:

hey Amanda!!
  12:20pm pgw in mntclr:

recently, i've been watching a good deal of the streaming NASA channel on my Roku
  12:22pm anne:

have you guys ever seen the movie "I Want You" of which this song was the main song? it was a weird so-so semi-raunchy british movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Amanda:

Hi Anne! We've started doing marathon data entry, so I have thought of you a lot this week! Never seen that flick, but it sounds like it could be worth a look in a roomful of sarcastic friends.
  12:26pm G:

Does it actually say "****" on the CD?
  12:26pm Van in DC:

It is a decent mashup. "I would give anything to make it with you"

"Copy that"
  12:27pm anne:

I wish I could be there with you guys this marathon!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm Amanda:

G -- yes, it does!
  12:29pm G:

Got it! tx
  12:33pm G:

Do I detect a counter-ValDay playlist....
  12:34pm Van in DC:

Ha ha Ha..."Thanks for the hookup" from NASA just heard under this song
  12:36pm conrad:

i love hard day's night
  12:36pm Van in DC:

Cynical? You should have heard Julie's show!
  12:37pm Doug S.:

My duties have only just begun: Today is my dear wife's birthday. Could everyone in the audience say a little prayer to help her gift arrive in today's mail. Thank you.
  12:38pm USPS:

Pushy pushy :-)
  12:38pm conrad:

maybe they were just rating their song. four stars.
  12:41pm Van in DC:

Well happy birthday to your wife from the WFMUniverse!
  12:42pm Carmichael:

Doug, you didn't check out the birthday synergy before committing?!? :)
  12:43pm E.L.:

  12:43pm Skirkie:

  12:43pm pgw in mntclr:

ah, this is a such a classic slow-burner
  12:44pm Van in DC:

Bah. All Valentine's Day did for me was slow my drive time to the bar. Stupid traffic.
  12:44pm Doug S.:

I didn't know the post office has a birthday synergy option. Is that kinda like a souped-up "certified"??
  12:47pm Pony Express:

Neither snow nor rain nor heat, yadda yadda yadda.
  12:47pm E.L.:

Wow. You are tapped into my current obsessions this week.
  12:47pm glenn:

yasou omorfi amanda.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Amanda:

Glad to hear it, E.L.!

Happy happy birthday to Mrs. Drummer Some.
  12:51pm SteveL:

Starting with Frente! and I love this cover. Happy post-Valentine's-apocalypse day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Amanda:

Haha, that's right SteveL. It's raining frogs and locusts here.
  12:54pm conrad:

i hope theres some buzzcocks coming up
  12:55pm listener james from westwood:

a mighty mass of gift-delivery karma from this quarter. and a happy birthday to its recipient!
  12:56pm Skirkie:

Was it you who mentioned tonight being the night all the mistresses and such get taken out to dinner?
  12:56pm listener james from westwood:

i did not know that new order cover was frente!. thought it was nouvelle vague.
  12:57pm pgw in mntclr:

  12:57pm Dervish:

Just wondering, has anyone ever fallen in love with someone, ever fallen in love, in love with someone, ever fallen in love, in love with someone, you shouldn't've fallen in love with?
  12:57pm listener james from westwood:

ebtg reminds me of an ex and a hard, hard breakup. but curiously, her massive attack cut doesn't. weird.
  12:58pm Carmichael:

She can't talk on the phone while she's recording!! Sheesh!
  1:00pm pgw in mntclr:

yeah, i first thought the noise was from my cassette
  1:00pm Brian en Angleterre:

Hello Amanda, Is this Mark Linkhous' relative? Do like grenadine with lemonade and ice. Luvverly.
  1:02pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Amanda:

Dervish/conrad -- I got the Buzzcocks vibe dispensed with at the top of the show! (well, sort of.)

Hey ndbob, pgw, Brian in UK, and Skirkie, and E.L., and everyone I may have forgotten!
  1:04pm ndbob:

great song here - one of Johnny's best
  1:05pm Jack P.:

Whatever vibes you're putting out is the right vibes!
  1:05pm Van in DC:

Love will tear us apart, I've heard. And heard. And heard. And heard...
  1:05pm Carmichael:

Heya Bob, what's the forecast for NoDak today?
  1:05pm Brian en Angleterre:

Amanda do you like Marine Girls? Tracy Thorns early (possibly first) group.
  1:05pm Doug S.:

Hey ndbob!
  1:05pm G:

@Kirkie: I have heard for a few years that the day before Val Day is "Valenswine's Day," with welloff dudes limoing their mistresses and bestowing baubles. Restauranteurs supposedly say Valenswine's Day is more remunerative for them than actual ValDay, which is reserved for wives.
  1:06pm Danne D:

Hi Amanda :) Hi Folks :)
  1:06pm G:

Roll the bones, Danne :-)
  1:07pm conrad:

noooooooooooooo! i was praying for orgasm addict.
  1:07pm Danne D:

lol G - alas there's no dice roll feature on the FMU's comments board (yet)
  1:07pm Brian en Angleterre:

Florence Alabama Music Enterprises.
  1:10pm glenn:

this is a purely rhetorical question, and please,no smartypie answers, but - what kind of fucking moron starts baking without making sure that there's vanilla in the house?
  1:11pm Danne D:

bummed I missed the first hour - have to catch it on the archive :) "I Want You" is possibly Costello's creepiest song.

Btw, guitarist Sean Eden who was on that Luna track is the guitarist for my friend Renee's band Elk City :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Amanda:

Aw, Thanks Jack P! I appreesh that.
  1:11pm Danne D:

@glenn someone with a hot neighbor they want to borrow vanilla from, I guess. Otherwise dunno :)
  1:12pm gumby:

Wow, Paul kelly, Nice!
  1:12pm listener james from westwood:

glenn: someone making chocolate-chocolate brownies?
  1:13pm G:

@glenn: impulsive poor planners, or those into pointless drama (their number is legion)
  1:13pm glenn:

you haven't seen my neighbours. welp, off to the vanilla store. anybody need anything?
  1:13pm Danne D:

Thanks for the songs for the lovelorn, Amanda - it's appreciated.
  1:14pm G:

  1:14pm G:

that was at glenn, not danne...
  1:15pm Doug S.:

My daughter Lincoln and I made a cake for Jessie last night. I brought home these animal-print candles (zebra, tiger, giraffe) and Lincoln immediately designs this amazing African safari cake decoration, with a tiger candle attacking a zebra candle (replete with a red-food-coloring bloody mess), a stream and baobab trees (using broken pieces of choco-covered pretzel). A virtuoso performance.
  1:15pm listener james from westwood:

i'm more likely to get fosamax or something from my neighbors. for a long time i was the youngest resident in the bldg.
  1:16pm glenn:

got any vanilla left over?
  1:16pm Danne D:

That's awesome, Doug :) sounds way better than any of that cake boss crap
  1:16pm ndbob:

wow Doug!
  1:17pm G:

cake boss, like jersey shore another sad stain on jersey.
  1:17pm listener james from westwood:

sweet! photograph extensively before going apex-predator on that superb cake.
  1:19pm conrad:

isnt jersey's nickname the 'sad stain state'?
  1:19pm Carmichael:

This theme and playlist cry out for Morrisey, you know.
  1:20pm Van in DC:

yeah Doug! And twitter post a pic! :)
  1:20pm Carmichael:

10-4 good buddy Amanda. Thi is the rubber duck.
  1:21pm pgw in mntclr:

the amount of Hoboken's daytime "cake boss" tourism is fairly insane
  1:22pm Skirkie:

  1:22pm Duff Goldman:

@pgw: Fear not, it WON'T last
  1:22pm Danne D:

All the mopers: *click*

(just kidding - I'm at least happy that you are amongst the happy)
  1:23pm Van in DC:

Even though I am lovelorn, I did put a dollar in the jukebox last night to play Etta James "At Last" for all the couples. Damn them. :)
  1:30pm Danne D:

Van's a good guy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Amanda:

Heh, I have a semi-good "At Last" story.
  1:34pm Doug S.:

Tony Coulter played Rush a few weeks back (and made it sound good!). I have always said that most avant garde thing we can do at WFMU/GTDR is play something popular.
  1:39pm ndbob:

I remember when Irwin and Michelle had a "guilty pleasures" show on the Incorrect Music Show" that was like that Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Amanda:

Is this popular enough for you Doug???
  1:41pm ndbob:

I always liked this.
  1:41pm Carmichael:

Ken played Todd Rundgren this morning. I was pleasantly surprised.
  1:41pm listener james from westwood:

"what kind of rat-bastard psychotic would play that song right now, at this moment?" —hunter thompson, "f&lilv"
  1:41pm Doug S.:

Amanda, you rebel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Amanda:

I play so much Todd Rundgren, too...
  1:42pm Hunter Thompson:

"It's OK, I used to romp with her. She knows us!"
  1:44pm Carmichael:

Good for you, Amanda! His new CD Arena is back to the guitar hero mode. Sounds like Something/Anything as played by Utopia.
  1:46pm Van in DC:

I think the Jim Price show would be the perfect place for WFMU to play all the popular music.
  1:48pm listener james from westwood:

LOLOL! "Jesus creeping shit! We've wandered into a time capsule!"
  1:49pm Hugo:

Glancing at the playlist: Sondre Lerche - he's from here, though residing in Brooklyn. I wouldn't be surprised if it was on Bergen Street.
  1:49pm listener james from westwood:

so did i. (tammy, while in love.) i tried to confine it to the car. mostly succeeded.
  1:52pm Brian en Angleterre:

Where are we going Elitist freeform! Daft. Music is there to be listened to surely Shirley.
Is this some rebel gang in the playground?
  1:55pm Van in DC:

Is it coincidence that it's Lauper's Time after Time as the talkover music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Amanda:

That was pure, happy coincidence. I do really like her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Amanda:

I couldn't resist this borderline-unhappy one!
  2:01pm Brian en Angleterre:

I'm with you about Ms Lauper, Amanda. 'Whatever happened to all the fun' in the world (FZ)
Think Lucinda's song might be about her dad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Amanda:

OK, pretty much totally unhappy
  2:04pm seang:

How about that tune, "Glad to be Unhappy"?
  2:05pm Carmichael:

As we all know, the Ike & Tina relationship was an unhappy one. Man, mybe you should play the Nips' Happy Song to get us out of this funk.
  2:05pm listener james from westwood:

"tammy," tom jones ... you'll have me putting in the fear & loathing dvd in moments at this rate. :) will make an interesting backdrop to copyediting....
  2:06pm Hunter Thompson:

"Circus Circus is what the whole hep world would be doing if the Nazis won the war."
  2:08pm Hunter Thompson:

Good ol' Dave. That album also had Get Out of Denver, if I recall correctly.
  2:09pm SteveL:

  2:10pm Carmichael:

This album also has Dave Edmunds, if I recall correctly. :)
  2:11pm Danne D:

I for one am glad to hear "Supernova", Amanda :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Amanda:

Hunter T, his "Get out of Denver" is on the album Get It, which I also love!
  2:12pm SteveL:

Carmichael is correct. Great meeting of talents, that, as is often the case, could not be sustained.

Yea Liz Phair
  2:13pm Volcano:

THAT's what I'm talkin' about!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Amanda:

Well, at least I got to drop an F-bomb, which I always jump at the chance to do.
  2:14pm Carmichael:

There is not enough Rockpile made to satisfy me. I even have the EP that came inside the Seconds of Pleasure sleeve. It has a great version of When Will I Be Loved.
  2:15pm SteveL:

The Everly Bros. stuff? Awesome! Yes, not nearly enough.
  2:17pm Carmichael:

@SteveL: http://coolalbumreview.com/?p=12823
  2:17pm ndbob:

I need to go .. catch the rest on the archive.. excellent show as always Amanda!
  2:19pm F Bomb:

Look out beloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!
  2:23pm Van in DC:

I dug the Liz as well.
Hey, is GTDS doing the co-hosts thing next week? I may have missed any news about that.
  2:27pm Van in DC:

From Wiki:

A-tom-ic Jones

Released: January 14, 1966 (UK)
  2:30pm Doug S.:

Since Amanda does her show live from within WFMU, she can and will have a co-host. For the rest of us Streamers, we all do our shows remotely, sending the show over the Internet to connect to the stream. This introduces a 10- to 20-second delay, which makes it impossible to have a co-host unless they are in the same place. (We considered having co-hosts joing DJs over the phone, but that would be distracting and too hard to pull off.)
  2:31pm Danne D:

Who will Amanda have as co-host? :)
Btw had to turn off sound cuz of stupid work stuff :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Amanda:

Catching up now... Hugo -- you're right! I haven't stalked Sondre to find out, though.
  2:37pm glenn:

i would imagine he has plenty of other stalkers to get him over the pain, amanda.
  2:40pm BDR:

Too late for this show, but one of the great f-bombs is in Guided by Voices "As We Go Up We Go Down." http://youtu.be/l7FqlArPFwI Plus it's a fucking good song.
  2:46pm F Bomb:

Fuckin A!
  2:47pm F Bomb:

Maybe Amanda is going on the one F Bomb per mic break plan
  2:49pm listener james from westwood:

mary's show is a delight! her archives are in heavy rotation while i proofread.
  2:52pm listener james from westwood:

i think the gtd stream is trying to break through!
  2:53pm Doug S.:

More Internet problems back at WFMU are causing the Drummer stream to rebuffer. The odd audio you are hearing is the 24-hour continuous flowing Drummer stream asserting its dominance over Amanda's override of the stream...
  2:54pm listener james from westwood:

re-buffered a bit and now it's normal. odd.
thanks for the mighty-fine show, amanda! good luck in the marathon!!
  2:54pm Van in DC:

Have a good week
  2:54pm listener james from westwood:

fortunately amanda can change the course of mighty rivers. and streams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Amanda:

Bye, all! Thanks so much for all your coolness and fellow-feeling as always. See you next week!
  3:01pm Danne D:

Thanks for a great show Amanda :) Will have to catch it all unfettered on the archives.
