Hi Bethany and Irene - I didnt see a playlist page so I set this up. Hope thats OK! hahaha

Hi Skirkie in the Phone Room.
  8:13pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

What the? 54% already? That's pretty good. WF is going to be wagging his doggy tail tonight!
  8:14pm
Skirkie in the phone room:

I wish I was unable to respond due to being on the phone. You guys got the number?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
Ken:

I know the number. It's 800 something.
  8:17pm
Caryn:

Yay, doing well with the numbers so far! Kepp pledging, people! It ain't over til the Wagnerian soprano hits a high E sharp!
  8:18pm
Robert:

Now see, what you should give as a premium is an A440 tuning fork, saying you had it custom made for the show -- when of course that's a stock item, marked exactly that way.
  8:18pm
Skirkie in the phone room:

I love Stravinsky. Did I mention I went over my limit just now pledging again?
  8:20pm
Caryn:

Need to go sell stuff tomorrow to be able to pledge and get the premium! (see, being Finnish, the love of the tango is in my blood, so of course I gotta have it!)
  8:21pm
Robert:

In med school I was told to get a C512 and C128 to test for hearing and vibration sense, respectively -- so I split the dif and got a C256, which is useless for both.
  8:22pm
G:

or for either, either
  8:24pm
Robert:

"Halloween"?
  8:28pm
Robert:

This show is threatening to go way over goal. We want to find out how much money it takes to make MU cow move.
  8:30pm
Caryn:

The "up yours" pledge: a rich guy pledging a million bucks to WFMU as a giant "up yours" to commercial radio.
  8:30pm
tr\sh:

Just read a short story by the late K. Vonnegut called Tango. Reads a dancing pivotal line, "The heady Latin music wandered in through his ears, found nobody at home under his crew cut , and took command of his long, thin body."
  8:30pm
R I S K Y:

Go Bethany! Wag tail Wag!!!
  8:31pm
Doug S.:

tr/sh, we gotta stop meeting like this.
  8:32pm
Ric:

Fastest goal total.
  8:32pm
Robert:

trish, last year I introduced Ken to one of the "whales" Andy B. says you should fish for. AFAIK, however, it led only to an interesting lunch they had together. $ I don't know.
  8:33pm
Snortley:

Pledge and get Bethany's premium; I did.

Then check out the TELLUS tango issue:

http://www.ubu.com/sound/tellus_16.html

But pledge first!
  8:34pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

I think it was on a 60 Minutes piece years ago about how the Finns like to tango through the long winter nights.
  8:36pm
Snortley:

Total dropped down to 89%. Are people taking their money back?
  8:38pm
Caryn:

@Ken from HP: the 60 Minutes report "Tango Finlandia" was for a while the most-repeated report they ever made. Don't know if it has been passed by another report since then. I can say that we spent part of Christmas Day having a music quiz, where we had to recognize tangos and their performers. That's just how we Finns roll.
  8:38pm
poutWest:

Give Bethany the Premium... 2 more hours!!
  8:39pm
Caryn:

Did Ken change the total again? He keeps doing that...
  8:42pm
Robert:

Snortley, Kne probably did a pro rata calculation for time and then discounted heavily on a goal amount, taking into account that Bethany is a rookie and a belief that WFMU listeners are interested only in hippie noise, cornball stuff, and paranoid ranting. So now that they see the fans of real music and a sweet DJ have the potential to subsidize all the lonely hippies' entertainment, so the goal was reset.
  8:45pm
tr\sh:

@Robert. Hm. I don't know about that, but I do know that whales are big into krill. Lots and lots of krill.
  8:46pm
G:

@Robert: I'd assume the point of the goal is to give prospective pledgers something to contribute toward that has a good shot of being achieved. Having a rigid number that is way too high or low for a given shift defeats that purpose.
  8:48pm
Robert:

Of course, G. They had Bethany hitting from the ladies' tee, but when she got a hole in 1 they moved on to the pro tee on the par 5.
  8:49pm
Robert:

Some audiences have been hitting a windmill blade.
  8:52pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Will we hear the Metallica cellos tonight?
  8:53pm
Caryn:

BTW, Bethany, any chance of hearing any classical violin pieces performed by Sergey Khachatryan some time in the future?
  8:59pm
Tom from Gravesend Bklyn !!:

ohyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeee ,,, Sopes Y Gorditas yaa haaaaaaaa !!!!!
  9:00pm
Marmalade kitty:

whats an eskimo?
  9:00pm
dan in falls church VA:

hey wait a minute, I didn't know Bethany was back!! Is this any kind of regular thing???
  9:01pm
Marmalade kitty:

sounds kinda cute :)
  9:01pm
jeff-m:

yeah , weekly one hour show instead of the 3 hours she did on Sunday nights a few years back
  9:03pm
Marmalade kitty:

never trust a hippie
  9:03pm
Caryn:

Who performs that eskimo tango thing? Her voice is very Doris Day-ish.
  9:04pm
tr\sh:

Maybe the hour will soon double to two?
  9:08pm
dan in falls church VA:

Bethany almost doubled her pledge goal because her listeners are obviously well-heeled...I'm gonna start panhandling here on the playlist -- but not until the marathon is over of course. ;)

Hi dan!
  9:12pm
tr\sh:

Belated heys to Doug and Ken.
Hey hey!

Good music, eh?
  9:17pm
G:

@dan: It's also the only classical and classical-experimental hour out of 168 hours in the programming week.

Much of classsical music radio is now every bit as focus-grouped, unchallenging, strollercore-ish, and banally pleasant as classic-rock radio is for its genre of music.

fun show. I wanted to pledge your show but I could not stay up so late.
