Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Julie, have you heard Coil's cover of this cover? It's massive!
  3:15am
Glovanie:

Nice Picture, and great song :]

And our engineer extraordinaire Ernie in the middle on the bottom
  3:17am
ausmanx:

this is a fine choice, good evening Julie... some people dismissed as lightweight pop stars were actually more interesting... this David E track is pretty radical
Avatar 🦇 3:17am
Julie:

Hi Aus, Glovanie. Yes this is the only David Essex song I know.
  3:19am
Caryn:

I'd forgotten about the name of Soft Cell's album. Heh! Of course, their follow-up, "Non-Stop Ecstatic Dancing" continued in the same vein. I hope Mary Whitehouse was displeased. (Of course, I can't remember her ever being pleased, so...)
  3:19am
Jay/ London:

david essex is now in a show over here called eastenders .. i never watch it think its a big step down for him
Avatar 🦇 3:20am
Julie:

He was in some movie...in the 70s..stardust or something like that
Avatar 🦇 3:20am
Julie:

He was hot too, gonna take that album cover home with me :D
  3:20am
Darkseid Dan:

He was Kenny Everett all the time.
  3:20am
Jay/ London:

oh caryn she was only happy when we were not
Avatar 🦇 3:21am
Julie:

Love Kenny!
  3:25am
Caryn:

@yep, Stardust. You're lucky to just know Rock On. I think Essex's interesting work (like being in Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" etc.) is often overpowered in my mind by the musicals, sitcoms, soaps and frigging "A Winter's Tale".
Avatar 🦇 3:26am
Julie:

I warn you, I've got my sequinned disco slippers on
  3:26am
Marmalade Kitty:

Ringo was in that movie.. Morning :D
Avatar 🦇 3:27am
Julie:

Kitty knew were talking about English things! Manc in the house
  3:28am
ausmanx:

hey, don't forget Silver Dream Racer! the title alone tells you a lot about that one, a David Essex classic
  3:29am
Marmalade Kitty:

I love winter tale.. I used to hate it when I was a child xmas #1'83 I think
  3:31am
ausmanx:

and That'll Be The Day with Keith Moon and Ringo Starr! i thought Kitty was Geordie, not Manc... spreading misinformation, must be MI5...
  3:31am
Jay/ London:

morning Marmalade Kitty think Ringo was in the first oneit was called " that will be the day " anyway just chillin before i have to go in to hospital for my op
  3:31am
Caryn:

I think "Rock On" was the only Essex album to do pretty well in the US, so I think that explains how Julie only knows that.
  3:32am
Marmalade Kitty:

Ahem..Geordie in Mancs !!
Avatar 🦇 3:32am
Julie:

Please sing along to the next one :D
  3:35am
Caryn:

Oh, the days of "That'll Be The Day"... Good music, Keith Moon, and Billy Fury wearing gold lamé... What more do you need?
Avatar 🦇 3:39am
Julie:

Got a call on the "request line." I think someone thought they were listening to WPLJ in the 70s
  3:39am
Caryn:

Yeah, Ringo was only in "That'll Be The Day". Adam Faith took over the role in "Stardust".
  3:40am
Marmalade Kitty:

Annoyed lastnight! Arsenal last minute of added time! Christsakes!
  3:40am
Caryn:

@Julie: did they also request something very 70s?
Avatar 🦇 3:41am
Julie:

@Caryn I told them I don't take requests
  3:42am
Marmalade Kitty:

what times your op, jay? have a good one!
  3:43am
ausmanx:

thanks for that, Kitty... I missed the last 5 minutes of the replay cos I had to come in here to work! I'm liking Arsenal at the moment though; Arsene would like Julie's show with the French chanteuses
Avatar 🦇 3:43am
Julie:

Oh good luck Jay!
Avatar 🦇 3:43am
Julie:

Oh..if only Stevie had sung in French
  3:45am
Caryn:

BTW, I sung along, Julie. But then again, I've been singing along to a lot of the songs this morning. Including this one.
  3:45am
Marmalade Kitty:

only 1point behind Spurs now!
Avatar 🦇 3:46am

I sang too! I even put the mic up for a bit, but I was wayyy back.

  3:58am
Caryn:

So, MK, are you a Newcastle supporter, or just an Arsenal hater? (I think the "1 point behind Spurs" thing is confusing me even further, because Arsenal are 1 point behind Spurs.)
  3:58am
Jay/ London:

@ Marmalade Kitty i have to go to the Hospital at midday thats in only 4 hours time and can not eat till tonight !!!
  3:59am

Avatar 🦇 4:12am

Avatar 🦇 4:33am

Recorded live, I've yet to ask a band to come in at 4am, not to mention an engineer!
Avatar 🦇 4:35am

I was soo lucky to get her. Her album came out DURING the marathon, so we couldn't plug her NY gig, but she's playing in April with Nite jewel!

Lovely live set, Julie!

the boys don't look too happy in them photos... is she a dragon?
  4:56am
Marmalade Kitty:

  4:56am
Matt from Springfield:

Wanted to catch this--stupid DST! Nice interview though, and "Evermore" was amazing! Will catch the rest of the set later.

Thanks Julie, and good morning!
  5:04am
Matt from Springfield:

YES! "Money" used to get censored, then was a "cultural exemption" for very many years. FCC's post-Janet crackdown radio then censored it again. When I first got satellite radio I was thrilled to hear bullshit again, and now WFMU returns it!
Avatar 🦇 5:05am
Julie:

I guess there must've been a radio safe version?
Avatar 🦇 5:05am
Julie:

Happy to provide the bullshit...get your bullshit here
Avatar 🦇 5:08am
Julie:

But any song that has it repeatedly, I'm wary of at any hour.
  5:08am
Matt from Springfield:

There's your FMU homepage slogan, right there!

Yeah, there was a version with the word deleted. One time you played the Nails "88 Lines About 44 Women" that was either a radio version or strenuously censored. I first heard that as an early teen, and I was unaware how dirty that song veered!
  5:09am
Matt from Springfield:

Wow, new Olivia?
Avatar 🦇 5:10am
Julie:

An AUS only release, she does Hey Mickey on it! It's all dance music
Avatar 🦇 5:11am
Julie:

@Matt yeah I think the uncensored was on the flip side. I will have to see just how bad it is.
  5:11am
Marmalade Kitty:

luuuuuuv this!
  5:11am
Caryn:

Ooh, please play her Hey Mickey some week!
Avatar 🦇 5:12am
Julie:

@Caryn haha I will!
  5:12am
ausmanx:

breathtakingly awful film, incidentally... stick to the soundtrack
Avatar 🦇 5:12am
Julie:

She does Daydream Believer too. I nearly played that one.
  5:13am
Matt from Springfield:

@Kitty: I see the Mighty Pigeon's performance led you to the Woodstock movie! That is an amazing film, I show really watch it again. Too many fav items to mention! (The Rain Chant segue into Santana's "Soul Sacrifice" is probably the most awesome!)
Avatar 🦇 5:13am
Julie:

ahh I forget how wonderful SE are :D
Avatar 🦇 5:14am
Julie:

I would like to see Sweetwater did they make the cut?
  5:14am
Caryn:

I suspect you'll just have to go through the whole album as the spring continues, Julie.
  5:15am
Marmalade Kitty:

chemical brothers Like a Motorway remix is even better, in a way
  5:16am
Matt from Springfield:

Thelma Schoonmaker has been Martin Scorsese's film editor virtually his entire career, and one of her early feature films was the Woodstock movie. The various cross-cuttings (1,2,3 panels side-by-side and back again) are evidently her contribution.
Avatar 🦇 5:16am
Julie:

@Caryn alas there are some tracks not her
  5:19am
Caryn:

Well, just the Olivia tracks then :)
  5:19am
Matt from Springfield:

Sadly Sweetwater were omitted from the film, as was Tim Hardin!
Avatar 🦇 5:20am
Julie:

There is probably footage around somewhere. I need to dig out my Sweetwater CD
  5:20am
Caryn:

@Matt: yeah, she got an Oscar nomination for Woodstock. Scorcese also worked on the film with her.
  5:21am
Caryn:

I wonder if Sweetwater are on the "Woodstock Diaries"?
  5:25am
Matt from Springfield:

@Caryn: That's right, Marty did work on Woodstock as well.

Ahhh, lovely Hex!
  5:26am
Matt from Springfield:

"Because....."
:)
  5:30am
Matt from Springfield:

Sad story:
"Three days after Sweetwater performed on The Red Skelton Show (December 1969), singer Nancy "Nansi" Nevins was severely injured in a car accident, which stopped the progress of the band. Due to the accident, Nancy experienced brain damage for a number of years following the collision, and permanent damage to one of her vocal cords."
  5:30am
Caryn:

Hey, Sweetwater! With a song Richie Havens does in "Woodstock"! I'm starting to suspect the Sweetwater footage from Woodstock has been ruined or something, because hours of extra performance footage has been released over the years, but never anything from them.
Avatar 🦇 5:31am
Julie:

That's why I heard of them, I saw the VH1 movie
  5:31am
Marmalade Kitty:

Ahhh, bongo time! :)
  5:32am
Matt from Springfield:

@Kitty: Psychedelic jazz flute! :)
  5:38am
Deepak:

This song by Holter is just lovely.
  5:38am
Matt from Springfield:

Nice Julia Holter, kind of 80s and/or 60s vibe to this, it has that certain je ne sais quoi...
  5:39am
Marmalade Kitty:

I can see the bong trees! :D
Avatar 🦇 5:46am

next one is for Matt (I think)
  5:47am

Hmmm, ears tuned in anticipation...
  5:49am

YES INDEED-Y! Thanks Julie!
First song I heard of by Strawberry Switchblade, from my old Living In Oblivion comps.
Avatar 🦇 5:50am
Julie:

Yeah this was the hit.. They got bumped from the first set, had to put them in here somewhere
  5:50am

There's a whole universe of Rose McDowall songs and groups, which you've explored many times before on this show.
Avatar 🦇 5:52am
Julie:

She is a wonder, is she doing anything now?
  5:54am

2005 "Alone" CD EP on Durtro - with John Contreras and Nurse With Wound is the most recent item mentioned.
