Good morning Julie, Pie, Caryn and KP.
Great to see the station make its goal after those past few years of coming up short. Now if only that $1m pledger would show up...

Dark Knight Dan:

Congrats Julie and WFMU. You got done and did it!

I feel bad for all the DJs and fixtures that remain unadopted. I wonder if they would still accept an adoption request, even though the deadline has passed?

@Caryn I would think so, email John Dalton through the gallery

Okey-dokey, Julie! Something to do while my adoption of this comments board is still pending :)
  3:16am
KP:

Wow Caryn, if you grab this board i'll have to settle for adopting Joe Belock.

isnt this song from south pacific?
  3:21am
KP:

You are quite welcome, Julie.
  3:21am
Caryn:

I've seen a couple of musical numbers from Camelot, but never the whole thing :(
Camelot and Carousel, the holes in my musical theatre experience (haven't been shown on tv or done in a theatre here during my lifetime, which may explain why I haven't experienced them), and allitterative ones at that.
  3:22am
Caryn:

@KP: yes indeedy, South Pacific
Avatar 🦇 3:22am

@Caryn You must see the film Camelot, it is lacking because Redgrave can't sing, but boy is it beautiful

After this song, wouldn't Olivia be appropriate ?
Avatar 🦇 3:23am
Julie:

@FVH i don't have any of her tonight! I need to get her new soundtrack which they don't sell here. She does dance songs, like Hey mickey
  3:24am
Caryn:

@Julie: yes, the bits of it I've seen have looked gorgeous, which is why I've wanted to see it. Once my finances are out of their current, even-bigger-than-usual, marathon-induced hole, I'll go out and buy it.

This is a lovely Boyce & Hart song--someone requested this at the Yo La Tengo performance Friday. I didn't know the Monkees also did this. Still a lovely arrangement here. Mickie Most production?

Kitty's right--a fine performance, the Ants are Invading!
  3:32am
Caryn:

Now that the marathon is over, the DJs can finally focus on their various RIP tributes.
@Julie: yes, good performance! And good choice of a militaristic jacket for the song!
  3:32am
KP:

I'm glad you mentioned it, MK. Quite shocking in its intensity, Julie's performance killed them. That is all.

maja:

Good Morning Julie, all!
  3:36am
fred von helsing:

You're right, the album is NAIADES. I have Strange Boutique on vinyl, it is a treasured posession.
I passed out before the jamboree got really cranked up. Didn't get to work til 3 in the afternoon. Does anyone have a pointer to a vid of the festivities? They sound painfully silly.
  3:37am
Bucky:

Loving your show sweetie :)
Is Donette still making music? I ran into her here and there in LA shortly after she released the album with Steve Kilby- '89-'90-? She always manages to create magic waves. Thanks.
  3:37am
Caryn:

www.ustream.tv/channel/marathon-2012 should still have the videos up, FVH
  3:37am
Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I was wondering what the "militaristic jacket" was with the buttons and all--I liked the more punk side you showed. So start thinking of next year's song! ;)

@Matt oh already thinking, but I changed my mind like 10 times this year. It's just a cute jacket I think I got it either in LA or London a couple years ago. I think I was wearing it when I first met Inkubus Sukkubus.

Caryn, MK, FVH, KP, Bucky, Dan and mike as well!
  3:41am
Matt from Springfield:

Garlands would ROCK! And..it's the only album where they've published (a partial list) of lyrics too.
  3:43am
Caryn:

Morning, Matt & Maja & others who have just shown up!
  3:43am
Matt from Springfield:

@Bucky: I was pleasantly surprised to find out about Donnette's collab with Steve Kilbey after Julie played "Ethereal Message". I don't think she's done anything recently, but I'm quietly hoping Dark Night draws more and more of these great performers back in the game!
  3:44am
T-Zero:

Morning, all.
  3:46am
Matt from Springfield:

Morning TZ!
@Julie: I checked producers: Chip Douglas produced the Monkees, Mickie Most did Herman's Hermits (and Donovan, the Animals and such). But apparently, Mickie also discovered Kim Wilde, who was singing backing vocals for her Dad, Marty!

That jacket was a cute as a button!
  4:02am
fred von helsing:

I guess Ken revises the goals for shows as the marathon progresses? Like, upward? There were some tough goals and a lot of shows got less than half their goal, but all in all the ending was... a happy one
  4:05am
Bucky:

Yeah- the first time i heard 'In the Net' i nearly lost my mind *_*
  4:05am
KP:

FVH. I dont think he did that this time. in the fall mini marathon, yes. Julie tripled her modest goal and they they reset it each time. This time i dont think so.
  4:05am
Caryn:

Man, "Comfortably Numb" has been covered by a crapload of people!
  4:06am
fred von helsing:

a melody MUCH like "comfortably numb" !!
  4:06am
fred von helsing:

oh d'oh it IS C.N.
My bad. Time to fetch coffee.
  4:07am
Caryn:

@KP: he did do it with some shows. You would watch as the pledge widget percentages would jump, as Ken would set a new goal, in some cases several times during the show.
  4:09am
fred von helsing:

I wonder too how much of the marathon goal covers marathon costs - swag etc. Maybe a fifth? My half-mouse swag probably costs 20$+ wholesale - not free
  4:09am
Caryn:

@KP: but I think FVH also means that a lot of shows had way higher goals set for them during the second week than during the first, as Ken realised they needed more money coming in
  4:10am
Marmalade Kitty:

Caryn, enough for a comfortably numb set!
  4:12am
fred von helsing:

Let's not forget our new in-house band, Julie's Pledge Widget! Who's on bass? Who's got drums? Synth? Julie sings - mais bien sûr
  4:12am
Matt from Springfield:

@FVH: $240,000? That's a high cost (and %) for swag--assembled by volunteer DJs, I'm sure the only costs are mailing it. Even for a $15 pledge and bumper sticker (or soap) that might be as much as one-third ($5), but obviously most swag-receivers will pledge more than that. $75, that should be less than 1/10. Higher pledges have a lower proportion still.
  4:12am
KP:

Caryn, this time? I guess i havent seen anyone really crush a goal.iwas shocked the first week to find Julie's goal was for the first week only. That did not seem fair. i know another DJ and he was crushed he fell so short in that first week. He should have been celebrating.
  4:13am
Matt from Springfield:

"Comfortably Numb" set? That's a little too much of it--I would be uncomfortable (and not numb) with that!
  4:14am

Avatar 🦇 4:15am
Julie:

So much lovely Brazilian music!
  4:16am
Matt from Springfield:

Oooh, is this on the Brazilian comp?
  4:16am
fred von helsing:

Yeah I was guessing too high. Even with P&H it's gonna be under a sixth, maybe a tenth like you say, for the bulk of pledges, and falling off for the higher ones. So that leaves well over 1M to keep the coffeemakers powered and the DJ's properly caffeinated
  4:17am

Kitty, much better value is the Wobble and Levene reunion where they're playing PiL's Metal Box in Dub... I am so jealous that they're only doing it in Japan and the UK. That would be something to see... and Lydon tried to stop them!

Marmalade Kitty:

Ooooh! I must see that!

I love that she has played 4 major female Batman characters (Vicki Vale, Batgirl, Harley Quinn & Huntress)!

Julie - it would have been a strange & weird transition if you had followed up the Monkees with Toyah's "I Want To Be Free" ha ha :)

Interesting cover of Comfortably Numb. Nothing beats the original though. MAN do I love Gilmour on that...

Wow. I thought I was hearing ONJ there for a minute...had to look and it's "Sophia Knapp".

Van in DC:

Huh. "Seconds Late For The Brighton Line". That sounds like something Chris Limb would write. :)

Just noticed the comment about Sophia Knapp live on the show next week - that should be great!
