poli-sci perspective: an uncharismatic leader of the out party won. that's what often happens in democracies when voters think the economy stinks... punish the ins, who else is there to punish...

@destroit he's sort of a backup in for that DSK pervert man from the IMF - which means chances are he might be a god guy
  7:42pm
listener gary:

I'm a life long compulsive liar. It would be difficult for me, if not impossible, to recall an incident of a "little white lie". But I do love this program ...seriously. Best lg

Destroit:

Indulge me Cheri, lie to me!
  7:45pm
pierre:

he, also, is a modorate left wing, very "normal" as he proclaimed to be, he appears to be quite cultivated, and used to be the socialist secretary.
He never was realy famous, but recently with the election he was re-discovered and became Sarkozy's challenger.
We'll see what governement he put in.
Avatar 7:45pm
monica:

Berg:

@pierre : pour ces détails ;)
  7:48pm
cb1:

Mo - spot on, m'dear!
  7:48pm
G:

to break something down can mean to take it apart and show how it works. it's a metaphor -- "break it down" originally meant take a machine or engine apart
  7:49pm
miss cheri:

well monica i have to sign off now,, thnx for your time i'll still be listening..see you all next week!!
  7:49pm
tranewreck:

breakdown=analytic summary
or
what will happen to me if Monica is not on the summer schedule
  7:49pm
Destroit:

Thanks Pierre, appreciate the insight. Monica, although I'm blabbing about politics and hockey, your selections are a 9.9!
  7:51pm
Berg:

i'm off to Bastille again - doesn't happen that often we get rid of an elephant you know! let's see how the donkey behaves in the next 5 yrs..
  7:51pm
trsh:

Breakdown can also translate to une crise mentale, like the song, though not in this context.
  7:52pm
other david:

Blargh, mentioned this yesterday but will again - Wilmoth Houdini is how I got into WFMU. A few years back I heard "Black But Sweet" on BBC World Service SW... couldnt get it out of my head, googled to try and find some information - then I found this blogpost:

http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2007/05/365_days_140_wi.html

Then I got stuck listening to WFMU :)
  7:52pm
miss cheri:

ohh no mo,,make that two weeks,,,night!
  7:52pm
G:

break it down (transitive) = analyze

break down (intransitive) = go "en panne" (the car broke down)
  7:53pm
pierre:

ooh ok.
thanks Berg, G, Destroit, Monica.

My pleasure !
