Hey jess!
  9:22am
hamburger:

herro - woar - stan was playing this earlier - so coo
  9:32am
Cecile:

hola, all!
  9:37am
Cecile:

Song 2 was really kind of like a Fall song, which made me laugh because it was so big here.

I like the 90s better in retrospect. In the middle of it, I lived on free jazz, GBV, Jobim and electronica tapes my online friend swapped with me.
  9:39am
Cecile:

last time I got my hair colored, they had this awful 90s mix - Spin Doctors, Matchbox 20, and, oh that band that started as a Replacements knockoff band and then did terrible ballads...

The stylist, who was in her early 30s and I mocked it mercilessly. it was funny.
  9:40am
Cecile:

You know I think the Necks and Dead C are great beach music. The Necks the calm before the storm, and the Dead C the roiling water of the storm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am
Scott:

What's the replacements knockoff band? Goo goo dolls????????????
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41am
Scott:

Gin Blossoms?
  9:42am
Cecile:

Goo goo dolls!

I actually kind of like 3 songs of the Gin Blossoms. They played to their strengths. They weren't too ambitioous or irritating.
  9:42am
bregelesque:

Dang, McDowell. Yr killin' it this morning.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am
Scott:

gracias!
  9:44am
Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning. Another fine show, as usual.
  9:44am
Cecile:

both of us really groaned when the goo goos came on. It had to be worse being in high school then, you couldn't escape it.
  9:44am
pierre:

Tuned in !
as usual !
Bonjour Scott McDowell.
  9:45am
hamburger:

90s were werd - googoodolls /

AND I DON'T WANT THIS WORLD TO SEE ME
CAUSE I SOMETHING SOMETHING SOMETHING...
  9:45am
Cecile:

Another Radiohead Bread song.
  9:45am
breugelesque:

I especially liked that Fuxa track. I'll have to go home today and dig out Green Field 12".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:45am
Scott:

I'm super impressed with the consistency of the Goo Goo Dolls. That is hard work man.
  9:45am
PKNY:

Great choice on the Radiohead...reminds me I need to up my Radiohead to get ready for the show in Newark next week.
  9:46am
Cecile:

hold out my hand something after that...
  9:46am
Cecile:

If I have to celebrate consistent mediocrity, I'd rather go eat a McMuffin.
  9:47am
Jesss:

IMDB says that "Live Forever" is a "hilarious" documentary. Is it hilarious?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am
Scott:

Haha. No.
  9:48am
Cecile:

David Gates really needs to do a record with Radiohead. Make him watch a whole lot of true crime shows and get depressed. It would be brilliant.
  9:48am
Cecile:

unintentionally hilarious?
  9:49am
Cecile:

YES.
  9:49am
breugelesque:

Are you planning to go to Heliotrope, Cecile?
  9:50am
Cecile:

Yes, probably.
Saturday night.
I sulked out of it last year and missed Joe McPhee...
  9:54am
breugelesque:

I'm very glad he came last year. Musical highlight of the year for sure.
  9:58am
bruceleh:

Missing Joe McPhee is always a loss.
  9:59am
Cecile:

I know. I've been a fan for nearly 30 years. I was not in a good place last year.
  10:01am
bruceleh:

OK, peeps, what's your favorite Joe McPhee album?
  10:01am
Cecile:

That sounds like a great show.

Sweet Freedom, Now What?
  10:05am
Cecile:

Yes, that one is great.

Mister Gee does London Town in the Sun:

RF writes:
I wrote "Been Smoking Too Long" in the last few weeks of 1966. I was living in Aix-en-Provence, in the south of France, playing around Aix and Marseilles in various clubs. The guitar/vocal demo (see link above) was recorded in early 1967 at a friend's flat.
One evening, after a performance in Aix, a couple of young Englishmen introduced themselves. One of them was Nick Drake

Nice..
  10:08am
Cecile:

She wrote a nice article about him in Mojo a while back, IIRC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am
Scott:

Thanks Mister Gee, good stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am
Scott:

Yup cecile, it's linked from that page.
  10:11am
Cecile:

She was also A&R director for Rhino. It's interesting to see how she stayed in the music business as a mover and shaker.
  10:16am
Mister Gee does London Town in the Sun:

Rhino - fond memories of that label...Cecile

Mister Gee does London Town in the Sun:

I grow up in Stratford upon Avon, same time Nick lived there....wish i'd met him, what i do know is i trod the same pavements as Nick, i feel for him all the time, got a great photo of him at small upright piano, at home, in dappled sun, with a roll up, writing a tune - he is suited but no shoes or socks......erm,
  10:20am
Jesss:

oh, wow. scott, this is so great.
  10:21am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

anytime anyone's played Nackt Insecten it's been pretty awesome, I agree. This is an FMU member's group, I believe.
  10:22am

His stuff always stands out. This is great.
  10:24am

  10:28am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:30am

Yes, Nackt Insecten is Ruaraidh Sanachan who has engineered many great live sessions here at WFMU. He is also in Moon Unit and runs Sick Head Tapes.
  10:30am
Cheri Pi:

Ah it's our own BT's band.
  10:31am
Dead Corporate Eyes:

  10:32am

Thought Dead Air was a Sonic Youth remix for a bit...
