Holly in NC:

Yo!
Note to @ngh & anyone else who might care -
quick plug for Avira - it's the only product I've ever used that runs nicely in the background, updates daily, & catches *everything* (knock on wood). And it's free! Huge fan.
  12:14pm
kat330:

Mmm, chomping during Chomsky on a messy tomato/cuke/lettuce sandwich. Hands washed off now.
Thanks for the tip, Holly!
  12:14pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Holly! Free and reliable, just what I need.

The McCaffee that came w/ my computer is crap and tries to steer me away from legit sites.

I just installed the freeware ClamXav on my Mac to catch malware and viruses.
  12:17pm
kat330:

Thanks, Doug. I have a PC but Philo has a Mac.
  12:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Here's to "good timin' ", everybody!!

Smiley Lewis! One of the greatest singers from the "New Orleans scene" of early R&R. He sang the original recording of Dave Bartholomew's "I Hear You Knockin"
  12:18pm
Carmichael:

@ngh: I had the same problem with McAfee until I upgraded to IE8. Those stupid "whoa!" warnings went away completely.
  12:18pm
kat330:

Anyone else having a volume dingus? I have to turn it down during the speaking parts and back up during the music.
  12:20pm
kat330:

Usually it's the opposite of that, at least the DJ mic bits are so often too soft.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Doug Schulkind:

@kat330
The whole show is burned onto a disc, so if there are any inconsistencies with the levels, we are stuck with them. Apologies!
  12:22pm
kat330:

Gotcha. A nearby button so long as I'm sitting at the keyboard, so no big whup!
  12:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

At least the Drummer stream is normally very loud and clear, much more so than the main stream--so if the sound levels come up low, it usually all works out.
  12:23pm
northguineahills:

I get those McCaffee warnings usually only on Chrome. Firefox, not so much.
  12:25pm
kat330:

"Just a Closer Walk with Thee" -- one of the repertoire of Mom's gospel trio w/autoharp accompaniment. :)
  12:26pm
kat330:

Right, Matt, loud and clear. Same w/Ichiban. Always have to boost FMU mainstream.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm
Doug Schulkind:

That's because the stream have extra vomp. You can never have enough vomp.
  12:28pm
kat330:

Vomp and blorp, yessiree.
  12:30pm
Matt from Springfield:

New Orleans brass band is providing us all with a Vomp Stomp!
  12:30pm
listener james from westwood:

wfmu: the station with vomp and blorp. —there's your next t-shirt premium
  12:31pm
Carmichael:

Doug, who put the vomp in the vomp-a-dompa-domp?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Carmichael
It was Andy Griffith. What an amazing coincidence.
  12:34pm
kat330:

Under a Bushel, heh! Name of my blog coinkidinkily.
  12:36pm
Matt from Springfield:

Ah, that was Mahalia! Really enjoyed her memories.
Smithsonian Folkways rocks.
  12:37pm

Doug, I see how you warmed us all up for Steinski with your last GTDR set. :)
  12:39pm

Now that the Lomax collection is now online for streaming (the whole thing, IIRC), I need to check it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm

@kat330
It was completely unconscious, though I'm sure you're right. I previewed Steinski's show earlier this week. It musta stayed in the back of my head.
  12:41pm
kat330:

GTDS, sigh. Wish I didn't have a delayed proofread so often. Annoying.
  12:42pm
kat330:

Love this! Also the artist's name.
  12:43pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sinner's Rough Mix!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm
Doug Schulkind:

Yay yay!
  12:47pm
listener james from westwood:

kat, "delayed proofread" looks like my work to-do list right now. :D
  12:51pm
kat330:

@LJfW: Until my semi-retirement and worsening eyesight, proofreading was a good part of my bread and butter. It's a game for young, strong eyes. While once young, my eyes were never strong, sigh.

Listening to music especially outdoors is so much fun. It is more fun when you have friends and relatives to enjoy the music with you. However, what is good music if you don't have great speakers. The best outdoor speakers with Bluetooth will help your outdoor activities to rock. Check them out here technologyreviewer.com...

you may even decide to just go into the wilderness and ride a bike for fun. This is very refreshing because you get a chance to appreciate nature. You also get to breath the fresh air. You can check out some of the best mountain bikes here: bikingsmug.com...

I had a lot of fun with the new PS5 in the last 2 weeks. Playing competitive battle royale seems a little hard with an old gaming monitor. I was thinking about buying a new gaming monitor compatible with PS5. Here is what i"ve found: https://www.emchat.net/emchat/2021/5/19/best-4k-monitors-for-ps5-top-5-ps5-gaming-setups-in-2021

Sallur:

PS5 supports 4k at 120fps. So what do you guys think ...should I buy a 4k monitor at 60hz, a 4k monitor at 120hz or a cheap 144hz UHD monitor? I feel that my old monitor is not helping me at all in battle royale. My budget is limited but I was looking on this list of 4k PS5 Monitor and it looks really promising.
I know 4k is the future and I don't want to regret it later. Looking for any tips and suggestions.
