  12:02pm
northguineahills:

  12:06pm
Van in DC:

in!
  12:06pm
northguineahills:

Now to see if Searching for Sugar Man is on Netflix. Was disappointed last night that Hidden Fortress is no longer available for instant stream.
  12:06pm
listener james from westwood:

o yea! doin' my steinski in-theme dance!
  12:06pm
listener james from westwood:

(it's not a very well-coordinated affair.)
  12:06pm
kat330:

@Brian: Yes! Heard Kermode's review yesterday, AAMOF. [Also interrupted by breaking news -- geez, you Brits have a lot of breaking news!;) ]
  12:08pm
kat330:

[that was a carry-over from a comment you left on GTDS]
  12:08pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: In-theme dance however you wish! (As long as no one's looking...)

I just flew over and boy are my fingers tired.
  12:11pm
joe:

Damn this place fills up quick. I know you, I know you, I don't know you, Owww you I want to know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm
Doug Schulkind:

The opening four-song sequence of today's Steinski show is particularly inspired, methinks. You will thinks, too, methinks.
  12:12pm
listener james from westwood:

@Matt, it's between me, the screen, and the plants! and the plants get a vote when they begin doing some of the work around here. lazy bastards.
  12:12pm
Van in DC:

What's the old saying? Sing like nobody's listening, dance like nobody's looking...?
  12:13pm
kat330:

Save some of those moves for tomorrow, LJfW: It's international dance day.

Ahhhh!! Coward! :>
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm
Doug Schulkind:

Just don't dance in the shower. Or, at least, pick up the soap first.
  12:14pm
listener james from westwood:

no worries; the shower is where i listen to npr and curse at current events!
  12:15pm
kat330:

Those wonderful, internal rhymes -- Noel could take on today's rappers with both hands tied behind his back.
  12:15pm
Van in DC:

@Kat330 - well today I guess is "Free Kiss Day" ...it's been trending on Twitter, anyways
  12:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: Haven't gotten the plants to do copy-editing yet? ;)
Noel Coward, blink and you'll miss him! Bruz Fletcher even more so..
  12:16pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Lobachevsky"! Blast from the past!
  12:16pm
kat330:

I didn't realize Simmons, et al, were in jail?! ;)
  12:16pm
listener james from westwood:

nah, they keep applying ap style when i want apa style. it's hopeless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm
Doug Schulkind:

I would just bet that Noel and Flavor Flav would've hit it off.
  12:16pm
kat330:

But seriously, who charges for a kiss, anyway, except as fundraising at a fair or something.
  12:17pm
Webhamster Henry:

Hey - that tiny sample about eating a lobster - I gave that to Steinski!
  12:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

Speaking of catching up on GTDS:
@Van: Have you finished moving? Everything settled now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Doug Schulkind:

@LJFW
There's an apa for that.
  12:19pm
northguineahills:

Tom Lehrer taught mathematics at MIT, I did not know that.
  12:19pm
Van in DC:

@Matt - still settling in but the move is over :)
  12:19pm
Matt from Springfield:

21 Dodge models in 3 series! ... All of which will be obsolete by this September.
  12:20pm
listener james from westwood:

and he wrote tunes for seasme street. the "silent e" song, for instance.
  12:21pm
kat330:

@Van: You moved again?! Your first one was about where I joined this here commenting community, and that wasn't that many months ago. Maybe you're taking your first name too literally?
  12:22pm
listener james from westwood:

well this is a well-timed show tune. and the answer is of course, poker's more important. at least i know how much each lie's gonna cost me.
  12:23pm
Matt from Springfield:

Good ol' Tom Lehrer, big mathematician/and educational song writer.

I have a quote of his on my desk:
"Eating an orange / While making love / Makes for bizarre enj- / -oyment thereof." :)
  12:23pm
Van in DC:

@kat330 - ha, good one :) Yes, that first move was a big one, from Dallas to DC. This one last week was just a few miles, to a much bigger & nicer apt. :)
  12:24pm
trish:

@ljfw also, you don't need a pr firm to play
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm
Doug Schulkind:

Stay tuned for the first-ever A Rough Mix concert calendar. A must-hear.
  12:25pm
kat330:

@Matt: that quote reminds me of one of George's scenes in "Seinfeld." Eating a sandwich, not an orange.
  12:25pm
Van in DC:

With a nickname like Doo Doo, he doesn't take any crap I'm assuming
  12:29pm
Webhamster Henry:

The old Citizen Kafka show had calendar entries like this too!
  12:30pm
Van in DC:

lol at the Roaches / Black Flag
  12:30pm
kat330:

Clever!
  12:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

(Standing O!!!) Bravo Steinski!
Especially liked the Election Year concert at the Washington Monument lineup! :)
  12:31pm
Van in DC:

I'll stick with Nicola Benedetti at the WolfTrap tomorrow :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Henry
It's a good bet that that was an homage to Kafka. Steinski used to host record-collector salons at which Kafka was a regular attendee.

Wait a minute...You were at those salons, too, no?!
  12:31pm
Matt from Springfield:

"First-ever" concert calendar? Did he do more of these, Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:33pm
Doug Schulkind:

@Matt
I'm pretty sure last-ever, too.
  12:37pm
Matt from Springfield:

Aw MAN! :(
But, if Citizen Kafka did those, I oughta check to see if there are Archives available for him!
  12:37pm
northguineahills:

Wait, wait. How come I don't have this Albert Ayler record (or even heard of it.)
  12:38pm
Matt from Springfield:

"Secret Museum of the Air with Citizen Kafka and Pat Conte"? Is that the one? There are some RealAudio Archives of that.
  12:39pm
Webhamster Henry:

@Doug - that's right - I was at some of those!
@Matt - those would have been on Kafka's WBAI show, but some of that material has resurfaced on the now annual Kakfa tribute shows that Irene hosts. If you haven't heard the Kafka qua Kafka, you are in for a treat!
  12:40pm
joe:

Wasn't Silent E for the Electic Company? Not being a nit picker just been question my memory alot lately.
  12:40pm
Brian in UK:

£27m opening ceremony. I confess to having trouble with that number. Lionel Messi's left knee.

We went to Kafka Museum when we was in Prague recently. His nickname was 'Chuckles'. Just kidding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm
Doug Schulkind:

Kafka and Conte moved their Secret Museum of the Air over to WFMU from WBAI for a while. R.I.P. Citizen K.
  12:44pm
Brian in UK:

joe move to a single storey dwelling then you will never have to worry what you come upstairs for?
  12:45pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Henry! Have to keep that on my WFMU radar, sounds great!
  12:45pm
kat330:

@joe: I hear you. I get weary of fact-checking on the interwebs everything I want to say. I'm resorting to just adding "IIRC" to everything I type and let others supply corrections. :)
  12:47pm
kat330:

Brian, the dangling comment for you whilst you were a-walkin the dog was WRT the Sugar Man link you left on the other side. Kermode gave it a big thumbs up.
  12:47pm
Van in DC:

Olympics - just saw something about the British being the only ones with A/C in their dorms. Wow.
  12:47pm
joe:

@kat330 I like that :) I may have to adopt that.
  12:48pm
Webhamster Henry:

Tom Lehrer, and now Stan Freberg. Both still alive!
  12:48pm
Matt from Springfield:

HOMOGENIZED milk?! Getting a little big for our britches, aren't we housewives?!
  12:49pm
Van in DC:

ha

  12:50pm
kat330:

Home court advantage indeed.
  12:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Henry: That is correct! Also didn't know Stan had his own radio show. This is great!
  12:51pm
trish:

But, uh, -- aren't they all staying in British dorms?
  12:53pm
northguineahills:

When the high in London is 75F/24C and the low is 54F/12C, you don't need A/C
  12:54pm
kat330:

Did everyone's volume just get a boost?
  12:55pm
kat330:

Heard they passed out 120,000+ condoms, so someone's expecting some heat in the dorms.
  12:55pm
joe:

It's a shame G Love gets lumped in to be classified with some pretty bad music as I think he and the Special Sauce are a great group. They were wonderful when I finally got to see them a few years back.
  12:56pm
kat330:

This one gets played a lot locally, Joe.
  12:56pm
Brian in UK:

Two turntables & a microphone
  12:58pm
northguineahills:

I saw G Love and Spe.cial Sauce open for the Violent Femmes in 1994.

Oh, I saw Beck in the Catskills July 2, in Deleware County, NY during a private party/fireworks extravaganza w/ about 600 people. He was just hanging out.
  12:58pm
Van in DC:

Well, thanks Doug & Steinski! Enjoy the weekend everybody - I'm gonna walk across the street to the National Mall and look for that concert Steinski mentioned happening at the Monument :)
  12:58pm
joe:

That's cool. I know in my area Cold Beverages has become one of those defacto bar b q drinking songs although most of the folks who sing along could not tell you who it is. :)
  12:58pm
Brian in UK:

Looking forward the Steinski DVD.
  12:59pm
kat330:

Good eve and g'day to youse all! Have a fine weekend, too. Till the next time....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm
Doug Schulkind:

Have an Olympic-sized weekend, Van! Stay cool, kat330 (and not just because that would mean the cool would be headed eastward.)
  1:00pm
joe:

I'm not going to admit to who I saw G Love with. But my wife was a fan of that band, tickets very cheap and the location was very cool. :)
  1:00pm
joe:

Take care all.
  1:01pm
Matt from Springfield:

All hail the return of Steinski's mixes! Thanks Doug!
Have a good weekend everyone!

@Van: Awesome! See if there's now a band that incorporates "Obama" into their name :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm

Did Don Knotts just say, "Gefilte, the wonder fish" ??
  1:02pm
joe:

@ Thanks Doug
  1:02pm
listener james from westwood:

@joe: you are indeed correct; that was from electric co. at least one other song, too. gotta stop working and listening at the same time.
  1:02pm
kat330:

My name Jose Jimenez...
  1:03pm
kat330:

Thanks, Doug!
  1:03pm
listener james from westwood:

aaagh, a client call lost me about 20 min of the show. will hit the archives. loved what i heard, doug!
don knotts would know from fish, he having been the incredible mister limpet and all.
  1:03pm
joe:

@Listener James my advice just stop working period it will weigh much better on your soul in the long run. :)
  1:04pm
Van in DC:

ha ha, funny stuff. And I'm gonna merge Linens & Things with Bed, Bath, & Beyond and call it Things from Beyond
