  7:09pm
david:

hi all.
  7:10pm
Mr. Elliot:

Breath of sweet Metropolitan air as always Monica - Elaine Stritch is my lagniape for the long weekend!
  7:10pm
Jeff:

That was Elaine Stritch? Damn, she must've been kind of young when that was recorded. She didn't have the Stritch rasp I've gotten accustomed to in recent decades.
  7:10pm
axlotl:

"I got nothin' to do and I'm doin' it... tomorrow." nice.
  7:11pm
dave:

songs so far are making it sound like SOMEBODY'S liking their odds on that big powerball jackpot.
  7:13pm
david:

what's the jackpot up to, dave?
  7:14pm
G:

Lovin' that Bugs Bunny gif!
  7:15pm
dave:

something north of 400 million, i think. or exactly one ticket to easy street.
  7:17pm
CB1:

Evenin Mo. Kinda pooped. CB2 and me took down 30 trees today. Nice soothin music.
  7:18pm
david:

Wow... and we're closer than ever to having a national lottery... that would mean billion dollar jackpots!
  7:18pm
seang:

killer track right here
  7:19pm
david:

ahh that was Dan Penn... I have his '73 (?) album... now I need this...
Avatar 7:20pm
monica:

dave, 425M right?.... axlotl, a sentiment i can get behind... david, split a ticket?... Jeff, yesh definitely. Recorded 1956!...Thanks, Mr. Eliot!...
Avatar 7:22pm
monica:

G - Carmen!... Damn, CB1 (and CB2!)....
  7:22pm
david:

Has an FMU listener ever won the lottery? I expect a devoted listener would turn around some of that sum to the station...
  7:24pm
listener gary:

I am remembering to check in with a big hello this week ...have been lazy/lax/retired? these past few indeed...I've got nothing to do and i'll do it tomorrow ...but first ...hello dj monica!!!!
Avatar 7:28pm
monica:

hello to you, listener gary!... david, not to my knowledge. probably a few pick 6 winners though...
  7:34pm
yayson:

lovely show as always madam.
  7:36pm
G:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What%27s_Cookin%27_Doc%3F

"...the [audience members] shower Bugs with fruits and vegetables (enabling him to do a Carmen Miranda impression)"

I believe the Divine Ms. M. was a Warner player, making the rights to mess with/promote her easier for the guys in Termite terrace...
  7:41pm
G:

I got a new mattress in May. The old one musta been over a decade old... After I cut my knee while kneeling on one of the loosened springs, sentiment went out the window, and the mattress to the curb...
  7:41pm
dave:

if it ain't a futon, i dunno why you're trying to sleep on it.
  7:42pm
CB1:

Firm. No question.
  7:44pm
Windy City:

No mention of the classic water bed? Or has that gone the way of the rotary phone ?
BTW your killing it this show !
  7:45pm
G:

@Windy: Possibly more like the way of the lavalamp...
  7:51pm
rrtsh:

Firm - w/ that individual coil action that was new a few decades back. Wide selection of pillows.
Avatar 7:52pm
monica:

yayson, many thanks.... G, yes! forgot all about bugs' send-up. and surely mizz m was influenced. And yeah, old mattresses deserve the curb...dave, you GOTTA be single if you're still doing a futon....me too, CB1... Windy City, oh that brings back seasick memz.... rrtsh, oh hell yeah...
  7:54pm
G:

Firm. That fits w/ my east coast residence, I guess.
  7:58pm
seang:

got me a firm Ikea foam mattress-- sleep is my drug
  7:58pm
david:

"Have a good night sleep on us... Mattress Discounters"
Avatar 7:58pm

  8:01pm
CB1:

A mystical kind of show. I'm loving it.
  8:02pm
CB1:

Cults so great!
  8:03pm
david:

firm here
  8:05pm
G:

My gf says she prefers firm. Yeah, that's what they *all* say...
  8:06pm
rrtsh:

Extra vote goes to thermarest and its clones (minus its slippy slidey aspects). Wonder why this isn't an option with all that top-layer form-fitting bits.
  8:12pm
david:

I love a good ticking.
  8:13pm
Mad Bomber:

@david: me too!!!!
  8:16pm
cB2:

Just got in.
Loved the openin' number. All I heard till now.
What's up on the mattresses???
I love following folks on the road who have their mattress tied on top of the car with a rope around the middle so at any moment you expect them to take off for the nether yonder.
  8:17pm
Listener Schned:

Turkish proverb: He who sleeps on the floor does not fall out of bed! Respect the futon- you get a washable cover- full disclosure, mine's on a pine frame and never goes to sofa mode-
  8:17pm
Jeff:

My beloved spouse brought one of these to the marriage:

http://scottjordan.com/mattress_choice/solid-latex/

Incredibly comfortable. The mattress, too.
  8:21pm
listener gary:

the secret to mattress longevity is to turn it on a pretty regular basis...head to foot, then the next time flip it over ...turn/flip ...mine is 30 years old, like new and I WOULD NOT change it for anything or anyone!!!so there.btw it is FIRM tending to HARD.
  8:25pm
G:

Just this afternoon I turned the new-in-May mattress head to foot, upon arriving home from four days out of town and throwing all the bedding in the wash...
Avatar 8:27pm
monica:

Listener Gary, don't you find that turning a mattress is a 2-person job?... Jeff, let's hear it for your woman!... Listener Schned, now that's a good one. Those Turks.... CB2!!! yay and yes!!... hola, mad bomber..
  8:32pm
cB2:

From what I am hearing I am sorry I missed the first half of the show, but then happy to have what is on my plate now.
Avatar 8:32pm
monica:

CB2, it's always there on the rewind, m'dear.
  8:34pm
G:

@monica: When I turned the mattress today it took two people.

I turned it, and the second person watched and gave advice...
  8:36pm
Texas Forever:

Monica deserves a cosmic mountain to be named after her
  8:37pm
Nancie:

Hello from Auckland N.Z . I have recently moved here from London , and yes my bed has come with me . Memory Foam, oh how wonderful, it did remember me.
  8:38pm
listener gary:

Avatar 8:41pm
monica:

Listener Nancie! So lovely to have you here..... And you too, Texas Forever!!
  8:42pm
Casey:

Is it kosher to just send a check sans pledge form?
  8:42pm
rrtsh:

Does anyone know of a trick to get a top-layer of memory foam to forget?
  8:43pm
G:

Get it drunk.
  8:44pm
Droll:

Gary, PowerBall's website says $425M, or $278.3 lump sum (single winner). Normally I call lottery "Stupid Tax", but with pot odds like that, I'm good for a couple tix.
I think the station should check the couch cushions and buy one, too.
Avatar 8:44pm
monica:

Casey, I'm sure that's fine. All pledge info here or hit me post-show via email for info:
www.wfmu.org...
  8:44pm
Rob from Maryland:

@G, that would work.
  8:47pm
Memory Foam:

Oh, my aching head. What did I do last night?
Avatar 8:50pm
monica:

Memory Foam, nothing an Advil LiquiGel can't fix... Thanks, Rob!...Droll, agree. This is when I start spending a few bucks on tix too....rrtsh, long memory i'm afraid.... G, good tip.
  8:52pm
Steve L:

Jamestown has emerged from its tryptophania just in time to tune in tonight. Thanks a load of cranberries for "Les Fleur" and Muslimgauze, Monica. "It's working!"
  8:53pm
seang:

an embarrassment of riches, this show is!
  8:54pm
Domenic M:

I hurt my head sleeping on a silicone pillow after trying beds in 'Not Sleepy,'--which should have made me run, but I thought well----let's see what it's about. It wasn't a chain. I rested on this silicone pillow without a tear before I started, but soon the saleswomen, and her Saint Something pin glaring down on me from her funnel neck----it all got to me. Maybe I need a liquid powerball
Avatar 8:54pm
monica:

Steve L!! Big wet one to you and the crew up there in J'town!!...seang - mwah!
  8:55pm
