	12:31pm PLEDGE PIN: Yeh Tony, I always view that scene as basically pan pipe country with a few bands who tried to sound like the Beatles. Not aware at all that there was any true classy psyche, prog or experimental music in South America. So I look forward to being educated by you today!

	12:41pm Jeremy: Los Saicos are great! Totally unhinged, esp considering it was 1965. They are on the Back To Peru garage comp and a 10" was also reissued.
	12:43pm tonyc: Talking of psych and such, the second half of today's show will veer off in that direction -- tho mostly north of the border.
	12:47pm PLEDGE PIN: Tony, the cd I bought of Traffic Sound‎ was – 68-69 by a slightly dodgy reissue label called Background. The CD contains the first two LPs recorded by the psychedelic Peruvian band. "A Bailar GoGo" was recorded in 1968 and "Virgin" in 1969 and done as a crappy sounding cd reissue in 1993 whne I decided to buy it. The label put out other rare albums by bands like Ithaca but I think they were all bootlegs, unremastered etc.
	12:49pm tonyc: I've got a bunch of Background CDs myself. They didn't do a good job with the Ithica -- the more recent legitimate reissue (on Lion?) sounds much better.

Or because the nature of the technology inspires more universal concepts, experimentalism, futurism, etc?

	12:59pm tonyc: @ Jeremy: I get what you're saying about the "international" aspect of early electronic music -- but I also think it was more personal sounding. These days a lot of electronic music really sounds the same because people are using the same software.
	1:00pm Ricardo Montalban: I was relatively recently hipped to the incredibly rich and diverse array of avant garde music from Latin America, from Prog to New Wave, electroacoustic, etc. Much of it retains some traditional Latin American flavor, as well

	1:16pm kat330: @Jeremy: Speaking to that, Neil Young has discussed some bits of that (I'm only in the earliest pages of his new autobio), like a friend who would file down his guitar frets, build amps from various components. Those parts are an interesting read.

	1:20pm BSI: I think of the experimental scene in the '80s -- not too long ago but before laptops, iPads, synth apps, etc.. and all the precious gear, infinite cables, fragile hand-soldered objects (it must have taken so much longer to set up for a gig, but the memory fades) -- I can sympathize with the ease of travel with the modern stuff, just a laptop, iPhone, bang-zoom, but it sure takes the "mad scientist" out of the equation...

	1:37pm northguineahills: In addition to a bike accident (happened later in the night after I got dumped, yes, alcohol was to blame)(haven't shaved in 2 months, waiting for the upper lip to heal), my landlord made me dismantle my garden for insurance purposes last month. Nice 1-2-3 punch there.

He built/rewired/customized (something) Bob Weir's board. He'd been a house engineer at Wally Heider's and worked with all that crowd in SF and Marin.

It's inconceivable that a person might listen to lots of different music? It's polite to tell people the music they like is junk? I don't know what it really does for me professionally. Probably just underscore how unemployable I am in real life.

	2:48pm listener james from westwood: i think it complements one's existing networking skill, rather than becoming a miracle gateway to networking ninja-hood. i'm a less enthusiastic networker than i ought to be, so i too tend to let it fall thru the cracks amid this and that. i'm sure they'd love to be the facebook of business and careers, with the exception that i think their stock is actually doing better than fb's. so the metaphor only goes so far.

	12:31pm PLEDGE PIN: Yeh Tony, I always view that scene as basically pan pipe country with a few bands who tried to sound like the Beatles. Not aware at all that there was any true classy psyche, prog or experimental music in South America. So I look forward to being educated by you today!

	12:41pm Jeremy: Los Saicos are great! Totally unhinged, esp considering it was 1965. They are on the Back To Peru garage comp and a 10" was also reissued.
	12:43pm tonyc: Talking of psych and such, the second half of today's show will veer off in that direction -- tho mostly north of the border.
	12:47pm PLEDGE PIN: Tony, the cd I bought of Traffic Sound‎ was – 68-69 by a slightly dodgy reissue label called Background. The CD contains the first two LPs recorded by the psychedelic Peruvian band. "A Bailar GoGo" was recorded in 1968 and "Virgin" in 1969 and done as a crappy sounding cd reissue in 1993 whne I decided to buy it. The label put out other rare albums by bands like Ithaca but I think they were all bootlegs, unremastered etc.
	12:49pm tonyc: I've got a bunch of Background CDs myself. They didn't do a good job with the Ithica -- the more recent legitimate reissue (on Lion?) sounds much better.

Or because the nature of the technology inspires more universal concepts, experimentalism, futurism, etc?

	12:59pm tonyc: @ Jeremy: I get what you're saying about the "international" aspect of early electronic music -- but I also think it was more personal sounding. These days a lot of electronic music really sounds the same because people are using the same software.
	1:00pm Ricardo Montalban: I was relatively recently hipped to the incredibly rich and diverse array of avant garde music from Latin America, from Prog to New Wave, electroacoustic, etc. Much of it retains some traditional Latin American flavor, as well

	1:20pm BSI: I think of the experimental scene in the '80s -- not too long ago but before laptops, iPads, synth apps, etc.. and all the precious gear, infinite cables, fragile hand-soldered objects (it must have taken so much longer to set up for a gig, but the memory fades) -- I can sympathize with the ease of travel with the modern stuff, just a laptop, iPhone, bang-zoom, but it sure takes the "mad scientist" out of the equation...

He built/rewired/customized (something) Bob Weir's board. He'd been a house engineer at Wally Heider's and worked with all that crowd in SF and Marin.

It's like 'like' on Facebook, in fact, last time I visited LI, I was faced with a popup of sorts that I guess I was supposed to 'endorse' all these contact's skills, even some I barely had any real-life association with.

Kind of like how FB was just this thing students were using. I keep thinking I need to pay attention to my LI profile, update it but then I rarely do. I don't know what it really does for me professionally. Probably just underscore how unemployable I am in real life.

	2:48pm listener james from westwood: i think it complements one's existing networking skill, rather than becoming a miracle gateway to networking ninja-hood. i'm a less enthusiastic networker than i ought to be, so i too tend to let it fall thru the cracks amid this and that. i'm sure they'd love to be the facebook of business and careers, with the exception that i think their stock is actually doing better than fb's. so the metaphor only goes so far.
