Evening, everyone.
  9:05pm
BDR:

Hey Man, tomorrow second anniversary of Beefheart's death. HINT! Congrats on the giftmas cookies on the station kitchen table.
  9:05pm
G:

Hey.... Gotta make a phonecall to the west coast, but will be streaming again later in the show...
  9:06pm
sweet cheri:

hiya dave, may i say once again happy holidays and a great new yea!
Avatar 9:07pm
Dave M.:

@BDR: Thanks. Food is pretty scarce around here on Sunday evenings. That's like striking oil. About the Captain...not sure. I just played him a week or two ago. But maybe.
Avatar 9:07pm
Dave M.:

Merci beaucoup, Cheri. You too.
  9:29pm
BDR:

Necks from Australia, btw.
Avatar 9:32pm
Dave M.:

@BDR: Did I say they were English? My mouth has a mind of its own sometimes.
Avatar 9:33pm
Dave M.:

I also said they were a duo for some reason, and I know they're a trio.
  9:34pm
BDR:

Sorry, didn't mean to be a scold, they're favorites of mine. As for Beefheart, yes, couple of weeks ago I think you did, I could go look but eff that. If you do you do, if you don't it's cause you do often enough.
Avatar 9:36pm
Dave M.:

Nope, no need to apologize. I'll see about Beefheart. Mostly, it's hard to go out and search for records once I'm on the air.
  9:37pm
BDR:

Hit me up next week. I'll be listening.
  9:38pm
sweet cheri:

i'm enjoying your show tonight, btw i don't know if you celebrate xmas but this is my favorite time of year!
Avatar 9:42pm
Dave M.:

I celebrate everything.
  10:12pm
Scott Briggs:

Really been enjoying FMU again the past couple of
months after zoning for awhile minus in the car;
can't tolerate much other radio in NY except maybe
WFUV and that's nothing like FMU. I was in front
of Bleecker St. Records the other night and it was
depressing cause I was afraid I'd blow $10000
there. Didn't go in. but good to see we still
have a few record shops around. I live in
Port Washington LI and basically, arts and
music-wise, it's HORRID.
  10:15pm
Scott Briggs:

anyone else around tonight into Morton Feldman?
and, any parties about, as the Sex Pistols once
asked?
  10:15pm
Destroit:

good evening Dave and everyone. Looking forward to the sounds. Like the Henke piece.
Avatar 10:17pm
Dave M.:

@Scott: Just this party for me at the moment.
@Destroit: Evening. Yeah, that Henke disc is very good.
  10:18pm
Destroit:

And this Side a-2 track...... They melted together nicely!
  10:24pm
12539:

Now's as good a time as any to say I'm enjoying the show.
  10:30pm
Scott Briggs:

anybody know whatever happened to the Adelphi
University radio station? I used to do radio there
as a volunteer early 1990s and seems like they shut
it down years ago? Guess they ran out of money.
Avatar 10:35pm
Dave M.:

@12539: Thanks!
  10:37pm
Scott Briggs:

a friend of mine used to be program director at Adelphi and he had almost zero taste in music. Played Das Damen and Alice Donut over and over. What a plank. maybe it's good that they closed the station down!
  10:39pm
braingallop:

lmao I saw Alice Donut once a loooong time ago
  10:40pm
Scott Briggs:

really? were they any good at all? I think another friend of mine used to work at this bar in E. Village and one of the girls that worked there had been in the band, supposedly, but don't recall her name.
  10:41pm
Scott Briggs:

anybody remember Banditos on 2nd Ave.? that was der place.
Avatar 10:42pm
Dave M.:

I remember Banditos.
  10:42pm
braingallop:

Meh...they were okay. I was visiting NYC and the person I was staying with wanted to go.
  10:44pm
Scott Briggs:

ha! I knew this girl Jackie she was a waitress there for a few years. had great margaritas and decent mexican food. re:
braingallop yeah I don't recall them being particularly great, AD.
I once tried to get my friend Tim to play Motorhead, even, and he was like "oh this is too hard!" his brain was too hard.
  10:45pm
Pasquale:

that tick tick sounding thing u played in the last set the thing that sounded like rattling metal and loose change being dropped on a Formica counter top was that the marclay olive thing?
  10:45pm
Pasquale:

that tick tick sounding thing u played in the last set the thing that sounded like rattling metal and loose change being dropped on a Formica counter top was that the marclay olive thing?
  10:47pm
Scott Briggs:

also was a big Telephone Bar fan for years but I think it either closed or went to the dogs ages ago. they used to have the best feckin' fish and chips there. i heard Norman's sound moved to Brooklyn. what a world!
  10:48pm
braingallop:

trips down memory lane...
  10:49pm
Scott Briggs:

Dave, would you play any Feldman or is that too "mainstream"? Actually I recent picked up the entire Can catalog so freakin great, I didn't know it that well. Also watched that old BBC docu. on Krautrock recently totally great, on YouTube.
  10:50pm
Scott Briggs:

yep. I'm that nostalgic about a lot of things but those
are some things I am. Also Pier Platters in
Hoboken and all that stuff. gone forever. sigh.
Avatar 10:50pm
Dave M.:

@Pasquale: Yeah, I think the piece you're talking about is Marclay & co.
Avatar 10:54pm
Dave M.:

@Scott: You mean Morton Feldman? Too mainstream? Hahaha, no. I'm not that much of an obscure-o.
Avatar 10:56pm
Dave M.:

Again, it's a little hard for me to go out to our library and look for things once I'm on the air. I can play Feldman next week, though.
  10:57pm
Scott Briggs:

yep Morty. I was just busting yer chops. I feel like Feldman
is mainstream compared to stuff like Xenakis. Now that's
out there. easy listening he ain't. or Stockhausen but I'm not a big fan of his. ok cool! (re next week)
  11:01pm
Scott Briggs:

i recently bought Crippled Symmetry Feldman piece live in Buffalo 2 CD set it's awesome. But it's definitely not as easy to listen to as something like "For Bunita Marcus". I saw that performed recently at Greenwich House in NYC and it was radical! pianist was Stephen Olsen and he did an
outstanding job, maybe 15 people there, alas. Why I dunno they missed a butt kickin performance.
  11:05pm
Scott Briggs:

Dave, meant to ask, what are your fave headphones strictly for listening (not pro. applications?) just curious. I'm a big Klipsch fan myself!
Avatar 11:06pm
Dave M.:

Sorry I missed it. That's a good place to see music.
  11:07pm
Scott Briggs:

oh the Feldman god what a great place, yes, never been there before, Greenwich House and school. gorgeous old place. Bunita Marcus was there but I'm too anxious to like say hi at reception following. egads.
  11:12pm
Scott Briggs:

I drove out to Newton NJ in October to see The Smithereens...great show but shame about NW Jersey. urghh. Bucolic ain't the word. Saw sign for Wild West City and I knew I was in trouble.
  11:18pm
Scott Briggs:

so what's up with the sweetcheri chick? Xmas obsessed?
  11:20pm
Destroit:

Darn meds
  11:21pm
G:

this one goes out to cheri... lol
  11:21pm
Scott Briggs:

my black leather lady (Suicide) i luv uuuu
  11:22pm
G:

optigan gives you xmas music cover !!!
  11:23pm
northguineahills:

Happily been washing my dishes since Le Orme, great stuff!
  11:23pm
Bob:

This is the firt time I've been able to pick up the WFMU signal here in NYC. I'm so happy! So happy! Radio on the radio!
  11:24pm
Scott Briggs:

zen dishwashing. meant to say I saw the Ginger Baker documentary the other day at Film Forum. Love GB but god, what a c---t. He's a nasty piece of work.
  11:26pm
Scott Briggs:

I can get FMU rather well here in semi Gatsby land, drifts in the car though. I just use an Onkyo receiver and a basic FM antenna and it comes in pretty well. But streaming is better for sure but you gotta have a fast connex.
Avatar 11:27pm
Dave M.:

Thanks for all the above. Hard to keep up.
Avatar 11:28pm
Dave M.:

One thing I know about Ginger Baker is that he's supposedly very stingy and always was.
  11:29pm
Scott Briggs:

god the PATH is still not running late that sucks. I was on the 1 and E trains the other day for the first time in ages it was not fun at all. I don't like it never did. I don't work in NYC no mo so don't need to take train much.
  11:29pm
wendy del formaggio:

Such a great show tonight. But I always enjoy your shows, Dave. Happy All-Of-The-Holidays to you.
Avatar 11:30pm
Dave M.:

Hey Wendy. You too, thanks!
  11:30pm
Scott Briggs:

He is a 5 star nutter! supposedly he broke the filmmakers nose on camera it's the first scene in the film! a sick man. It's ok I met Anton Fier 2 yrs ago and he refused to sign my Golden Palominos CD citing "bad associations with project." ok Anton. This is why you're a nobody now.
Avatar 11:30pm
Dave M.:

Yeah, the PATH situation is bad. Get where you need to be before 10 p.m. or the whole system turns into a pumpkin.
  11:32pm
Scott Briggs:

I hardly ever get to Hoboken anymore, was at Maxwell's though 3 yrs. ago for a Winter Hours tribute night of sorts. Maxwell's is still great.
Avatar 11:34pm
Dave M.:

I read the recent Jack Bruce biography, and Baker sounds like a pretty angry guy. Worse than ever now that he's 70 or whatever.
  11:39pm
G:

turned 73 in august, sheesh he's my dad :)
  11:39pm
B. Baggins:

Good choice!
  11:40pm
Scott Briggs:

i haven't read that but will at some point, sounds great. Yeah that squares with him in this film, a really angry, nasty piece of work for sure. Almost put me off him for good but I'm still somehow a fan of his music. Almost wondered if the nose breaking scene was made up but apparently not!
  11:41pm
Scott Briggs:

My friend once had a run-in with Harlan Ellison and he was so nasty to him I wanted to almost burn all my Harlan books.
some of these people are just all ego and no grace whatsoever. it's sad, really. Most celebs I've met were super nice but not all.
Avatar 11:44pm
Dave M.:

I guess no one's ever compiled stories of nasty-celebrity encounters? Would make an interesting book. Everyone's got at least one story.
  11:45pm
Scott Briggs:

that would be a fantastic idea. my friend asked Harlan can you do a radio ID for us and he retorted "i'd rather be butt-f d by 10000 angry bikers". thanks Harlan.
Avatar 11:47pm
Dave M.:

What?! Insane.
Avatar 11:47pm
Dave M.:

Actually, you should have found 10000 angry bikers.
  11:48pm
G:

Dave beat me to it :-)
  11:49pm
Scott Briggs:

oh yeah absolutely true! ha yes. that's what my friend Tim reported to me this was at the ICON SF convention on L.I. years ago. I was there the following day only. so had to go on friend's account but I think he was not making this up. I made sure not to wait on Harlan's autograph line!
  11:49pm
Andrew Waterloo:

Sarcastic wit would be so much more interesting if some of us had genies and a few extra wishes.
Avatar 11:49pm
Dave M.:

I mean, if that's the guy's preference...
  11:51pm
Scott Briggs:

he's a jerk. However I've met Ramsey Campbell the horror author many times and broken bread with the man and he's the nicest guy you'd ever wanna meet. Super gracious funny man. We took him out for dinner at some horror con in 1990s and it was a total rip.
  11:54pm
Scott Briggs:

I'm gonna try to get to the record show in Jan. if possible. Haven't been to Bell House yet. hear it's cool. help I'm stuck in Port Washington LI the pod people town!
Avatar 11:56pm
Dave M.:

It's a pretty cool place. Should be a fun event.
  11:57pm
12539:

Thanks, Dave.
  11:57pm
Scott Briggs:

I'll do my best. I dunno Jon Spencer Blues Exp. very much, are they good? I guess had them confused with Blues Traveler who I cannot tolerate.
  12:00am
Destroit:

Thanks Dave, very nice show.
  12:01am
Scott Briggs:

thanks as well fun chattin too
