Thanks for listening to this snippet, Terry!

Mike Sin:

Well all right! Working' at home today and tunin' in! So, I'm dubbing this show "Tunes to rock and entertain an unshaven old dude sitting in front of a computer in a bathrobe trying to catch up on a week's worth of work that he totally avoided during his holidays."
  12:24pm
listener james from westwood:

what are the holidays for if not avoiding work?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm
Amanda:

@Mike, I'd be comfortable titling my album thusly if I ever release one. Thanks for joining us!
  12:28pm
SteveL:

I'm pretty much in Mike Sin's boat, except that I'm at my very quiet workplace and not wearing a robe. Pants, yes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm
Amanda:

I want to go on the record as not wanting to hear who out there has pants on or not.
  12:30pm
G:

Sounds like it should be the start of an ELO track.

Matt from Springfield:

Happy New Year to you all! Hello Amanda!
I'm glad for this Naztacular Scenario today!

  12:45pm
kat330:

Ah, Sweet start to 2013! HNY, Amanda and all!
  12:46pm
glenn:

fun with math -

2013 happens to be one of those numbers with three prime factors (like 1,001, discussed above): 2013 = 3 x 11 x 61.

2014 is also a year with three prime factors, because 2014 = 2 x 19 x 53. The same is true about 2015, which equals 5 x 13 x 31.
  12:46pm
Matt from Springfield:

Matthew Sweet! Lovin' his power-pop sound the more I hear it -- have to get some songs by him.
HNY, HoNeY! ;)
  12:47pm
Brian in UK:

Hello folks. Howdeedoodee glenn, give us a joke out of your Lake Superior Cracker Collection while my internet link holds out.
  12:47pm
glenn:

except that since i copy /pasted this 1,001 was not discussed. so sorry.
  12:48pm
kat330:

Hey, Matt! If I've said it once, I've said it a 1,000 times now: HNY! :)
  12:49pm
Brian in UK:

Hey kay I think that's 1001 times!!
  12:49pm
glenn:

lake ontario, actually. hmmmmmm. a joke, huh? why did the chicken cross the playground?
  12:50pm
glenn:

to get to the other slide.
  12:50pm
Brian in UK:

I don't know why........
  12:51pm
kat330:

@BUK: Then that ties in nicely with glenn's math.
  12:51pm
Brian in UK:

Think I have read too many nursery rhymes Kay & Gerda from The Snow Queen anyone.
  12:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

@glenn: Fun with math, because Math Is Fun!
http://www.mathsisfun.com/prime_numbers.html

This calculator is excellent for prime numbers, and also spells out the prime factors, like glenn did above.
  12:52pm
listener james from westwood:

amanda is the source of the best poultry-based joke i've ever heard:
how do you cook an r&b singer?
you put him in the oven until his bill withers.
  12:53pm
Brian in UK:

Missed you, glenn. No seriously
  12:53pm
Matt from Springfield:

@LJFW: That's a keeper! :D
Somehow I think the writer of that joke kept working backwards trying to get "bill withers" in a punchline! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Amanda:

Ha! I'm glad you remember that joke. It goes like this:

Q: How do you turn a duck into a soul singer?
A: Put it in the oven and it's Bill Withers
  12:55pm
glenn:

my (hopefully short) winter unemployment period is upon one.
  12:56pm
Brian in UK:

This looks like a belter.

  12:56pm
Danne D:

Happy Loving Couples :)
  12:57pm
Danne D:

Amanda is on the small list of people I could drive cross country without fighting over music I think.
  12:58pm
Matt from Springfield:

@Danne: Are they friends of yours? :)

Joe Jackson's 1st and 2nd albums are a must-listen for me; I like the stuff I've heard here, and other listeners rec those HIGHLY.
  12:58pm
glenn:

didn't you and evan drive acroos country, danne?
  12:59pm
Danne D:

lol nope
  1:01pm
glenn:

more fun -

Between 1300 and 1999, when the year is between zero and twelve , the saying of the number is not in trochaic metre. Otherwise it is (e.g. 1999).
Question: there are two poems in the English language written entirely in trochaic metre. Both are written by William Blake. What are they?
  1:01pm
ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!

'All I want for Christmas is a Beatle'. Do not know the other.
  1:03pm

@Bob: HNY! (1,003 x) You get the graphic version?

Is William Blake related to Norman Blake?

Hey Uncle Michael! Welcome back...?
  1:11pm
Brian in UK:

Back to base Mr S?
I am glad you lot got over your visceral cliff.
  1:11pm
Uncle Michael:

Amanda, during your first break you began by exclaiming "whee!" Just as I began backing down a hill in the snow. I laughed.
  1:12pm
kat330:

Ooooh, what an excellent cover!
  1:12pm
ndbob:

this is the original version - slightly earlier then the Them version
  1:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

GREAT Linda Jones!
And most intrguing Them cover by Lulu. Actually she does very interesting covers in general, usually singing in a different style than the original.
  1:13pm
Matt from Springfield:

@NDBob: Wow! Really?
  1:14pm
kat330:

Really? Oh wow. Well, I need to occupy my keyboard in a different way now anyway, so I can skulk away on my ignorance. ;) Still listening though!
  1:15pm
Uncle Michael:

Amanda, I got a kick out of you playing Piper. One of those boys is from here and in the '80s was one of the area's proto-punks after his stint in Piper.
  1:15pm
Matt from Springfield:

Singing your own answer song? How tacky :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm
Amanda:

@Uncle Michael -- glad you enjoyed! Where are you from, if you don't mind my asking?
  1:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

And to get technical, wasn't that kind of a "Johnny Get Angry" answer song as well, considering her success in making "Johnny" jealous?...
  1:17pm
Brian in UK:

@Matt this is what I find so frustrating about tribute albums some tracks are just straight copies so why would you want it when the original is what got your attention in the first place. (Help urgent punctuation shortage in UK).
  1:18pm
Matt from Springfield:

Great job Amanda! This is a much better segue into Brenda Lee, from Lesley Gore.
  1:20pm
Uncle Michael:

@Amanda I'm from Chicago but I've lived in Topeka, KS for most of the last 32 years. ex-Piper was Alan Oliver (ne Alan Aushlager...called "Git Smart" during the early '80s). Last I heard, he was a hairdresser...a straight one...trying to "git" over a la Warren Beatty, I guess.
  1:20pm
G:

ok my good deed for the week is im gonna make a punctuation care package of saved commas and so on and send it to a random uk address
  1:20pm
Brian in UK:

Yes to 70s sad songs. Someone already mentioned "Nature's Way"--upbeat notes and downbeat lyrics.

@G: Actually I think "Band of Gold" would mash up pretty well with Steam! Have to try that when I get home...

I love this track. I'm thinking about playing some Mike Blessing sometime.
