@Matt: heh! Actually, a disc shooter could be useful, if we could make the cat think the meds are actually treats or insects to chase and eat. Shoot them out of the disc shooter and make him try to catch them. Make it a game a la "here comes the airplane" for kids.

@rrg: don't ask me, I was wondering the same myself... Unless blogspot has some thing where the address changes according to the users' IP address, so you would get it as a .com?

@rrg & Matt: actually, I just clicked on the link they had on their YT channel, and it went there. If I type the address with .com, it reroutes to .fi, so I think blogspot reroutes all users to the domain name most local to your IP address.

@Mike: yep. Originally, Crosby's 2-time co-star Donald O'Connor was supposed to play Kaye's role, but he caught a disease from his 4-legged co-star in the "Francis the Talking Mule" movies, and was bedridden, so Kaye was called in as a sub. Being a huge O'Connor fan, I'm a bit sad about that. But my love for Kaye's performance lessens the blow considerably.

And no preps/caps problems at all--that I've noticed.

Oh, wait: I think it should be "Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers" instead of "Art Blakey & the Jazz Messengers", because "The Jazz Messengers" is an entity on its own.

Avatar 5:11pm
Matt from Springfield:

@rrg: Actually that would depend on whatever the band bills themselves as. If they use all lowercase, or in a style contrary to MLA/APA guidance, they're stuck with it. Whether an intentional misstyling or just not knowing the difference, that's how it is.

@Irwin: Two For Tuesday Ween's Wednesday!
  5:12pm
rrg:

Not sure I agree with that.
Avatar 5:17pm
Matt from Springfield:

@rrg: In my iTunes libraries, I leave band and song titles the way they were kept: sometimes Every First Letter In A Title Is Capitalized. Other times It's the Accepted Idea of not Capitalizing Prepositions, Conjunctions and Other Things of Which I'm not Sure.

However, all lowercase is so annoying on my eyes, so I manually capitalize at least the first letter in the whole song title.
  5:18pm
Droll:

I agree with Matt: If the band uses "The", it's part of the proper name. If only British radio announcers use "The", it's not part of the full proper name.
For example, it is Led Zeppelin, not The Led Zeppelin for the same reason Matt Johnson's band is not The The The.
"The" is part of the name.
  5:19pm
Laura L:

@ rrg--yes, he's doing well today. But I see an uppercased "From" in "Third Trio From..." And is the Cool It Reba album title really that way? Of course "Pinafore" should be italicized but probably no can do italics on the playlist system. If The Jazz Messengers is an entity of its own, good argument for cap "The," yes indeed.

I also think that the fact that cap conventions are routinely ignored in song titles as printed in liner notes--mostly due to apathy or ignorance--is not a convincing argument that the way the band renders it is correct or "official".

  5:38pm
Alison Porchnik:

Hey from the Central Valley where I'm streaming on my iThing and encountering too many buffering problems to understand what's going on.
  5:38pm
rrg:

Note: This playlist is still being updated.
  5:39pm
Irwin:

Alison, shall I delete two of those? It's kinda funny, considering the "buffering problems."
Avatar 5:39pm
Matt from Springfield:

Well if it's Chicago style...don't they call the comma before "and" an "Oxford comma" or something like that? I used to put commas after everything until I was taught you don't put one before an "and".
  5:39pm
rrg:

Hey, I got your comma right here.
  5:39pm
tinaun:

is this being played faster than normal?
  5:40pm
Carmichael:

Which Central Valley, Allison? I'm living in one, out here in California.
  5:40pm
green mountain man mark:

Didn't what's his name from the Flaming Lips recently get in trouble for bringing a grenade on a plane?
Avatar 5:40pm
Matt from Springfield:

@tinaun: Or are you in fact listening faster than normal?
  5:40pm
tinaun:

yes. it was non functioning, though. and solid gold.
  5:40pm
paul:

yeah but I think it was a fake grenade or something
  5:41pm
rrg:

Those iThings are always buffering badly. I think it's a problem with the WFMU iThing app.
  5:41pm
Laura L:

@ Carmichael, I would always put that comma there--it's the serial comma, and it's what is printed on the book's cover. See section 6.18 in CMS.
  5:41pm
MenfussMike:

yea, what a dumbass
  5:41pm
glenn:

he gets in trouble for doing dumb stuff fairly regularly. they still make good music.
  5:42pm
Alison Porchnik:

@Carmichael, Yes, the CA one. Winters, to be exact. It sure is cold here!
  5:42pm
tinaun:

can't wait for "the terror" but yeah, he has been rather insane lately
  5:42pm
Droll:

[Making the holy punctuation gesture before opening his bible to section 6.18, for the recitation of the serial comma]
  5:43pm
MenfussMike:

flaming lips peaked years ago. their latest material is gawd awful compared to 20 years ago.
  5:43pm
Alison Porchnik:

Yes Irwin. I think I'll stop posting now to save you any more trouble.
  5:44pm
rrg:

I'm almost sure that AP is doing this on purpose. What a kidder.
  5:45pm
Irwin:

AP: All fixed. Keep posting.
  5:46pm
rrg:

And with Irwin removing all the duplicates my remarks will mean nothing to the people of future.

People of the future: originally AP's remarks appeared multiple times in a row, you see.
  5:47pm
Carmichael:

You live Winters?!? Ha! I have lived in Sacramento and Woodland for about 40 years. Just went to The Buckhorn (not the Buckhorn) last week.
Avatar 5:50pm
Matt from Springfield:

I want to sing "Listen The Snow Is Falling" when I hear this nice bed music :)
  5:51pm
Carmichael:

Just kidding Laura. I have a couple of English degrees, and I'm a bit pedantic about that stuff. Mrs. Carmichael, however, utilizes the AP style guide (or whatever it's called), much to my chagrin and occasional bemusement.
  5:52pm
Alison Porchnik:

Thanks Irwin and rrg for the moral support. Carmichael, I live in Brooklyn but I'm visiting my mom here. Spent my formative years in Davis. Which is why I've lived in NYC for 20 years. I do love Winters, though.
Avatar 5:52pm
Matt from Springfield:

Sounds like "I like my baby's poodle"! Which, I think implies the same thing!
  5:53pm
rrg:

If you can call Brooklyn NYC.

Kidding! I'm kidding.
  5:54pm
Irwin:

LL & RRG: Spanish -- first word cap only, right?
  5:54pm
Droll:

rrg, Don't forget archive listeners will never see Irwin's original butchering of the English language on the Accuplaylist, and wouldn't even be aware of the humiliation due Irwin unless you and Laura mentioned it in here.
Now that I've pointed that out, I'm sure Irwin will start editing your comments as well.
Oh memory hole, I'm glad you still exist.
  5:54pm
Carmichael:

@Alison: I thought you were from the NY area, which is why your post surprised me. I went to UC Davis and worked there for about 10 years after. Winters is cool, in a Mayberry kind of way.
  5:54pm
Sara Lee:

catchy tune. i need a new jingle.
  5:55pm
tinaun:

nice stuff
  5:55pm
rrg:

That's what i do in my iTunes but I never sought advice on the matter. Which I must do.
  5:56pm
green mountain man mark:

imagine if NYC started to annex all sorts of land around it. Parts of Connecticut, PA. Even all the way up to Vermont.
  5:56pm
Sara Lee:

Do I even make pudding?
  5:56pm
rrg:

And French. I only capitalize the first word plus other words that would ordinarily be capitalized, like proper names.
  5:57pm
Laura L:

One foot out the door, late to meet somebody, so later for the Spanish, but I believe that is correct, Irwin.
  5:57pm
rrg:

I love pudding, as long as we're talking about it.
  5:58pm
rrg:

And pie.
  5:58pm
rrg:

What, that's it, three hours already?
  5:59pm
Alison Porchnik:

This Mayberry has really nice people, good food, and a great music venue.
  5:59pm
Carmichael:

Now what are we gonna do?!
  5:59pm
Carmichael:

The Palms. Yep.
  5:59pm
rrg:

Thanks, Mr. C, and à bientôt, persons.
Avatar 5:59pm
Matt from Springfield:

Thanks Irwin!
Have a good night, peoples!

Caryn:

Speaking of proper grammar and punctuation, we got our university grammar books for a reduced price, because the word "grammar" was misspelled on the book's cover. Hah!
