Avatar 3:02pm Honey Water:

Hello, DJKG and Minotaurs, miniature and not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm DCE:

you aren't kidding, are you??
Avatar 3:05pm Droll:

DCE, I hope he's not kidding. I still have my gong out from Bryce's show.
  3:06pm common:

that was good rain in a bucket.
Avatar 3:06pm Honey Water:

@Droll: Put that back in!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm DCE:

I just asked a middle-aged lady in the office if she was a big Journey fan back in the day, and she said she never used to listen to music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

"And now for something completely different."
Avatar 3:07pm Marshall Stacks:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm rsj:

parties over man, i'm putting away my bong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm DCE:

that may be the best record click I've ever experienced
Avatar 3:08pm Sem Chumbo:

Dirt in the grooves: analog lives.
Avatar 3:09pm Honey Water:

Yes, all gongs and bongs put away.
Avatar 3:09pm steve:

a friend beatmatched runout grooves for like 2 hours last summer, it was awesome
Avatar 3:12pm BSI:

@DCE: "I never used to listen to music".... I don't understand what that could possibly mean. It looks like english but when those words go in sequence into my brain I get sad and confused.
Avatar 3:14pm Honey Water:

So is Stevie there to talk to bulimics?
Avatar 3:14pm Cheri Pi:

I had kale salad for lunch- it was positively delish. let the Blizzard begin!
Avatar 3:16pm Cheri Pi:

Damnit I missed Record Click??? What was it like?
Avatar 3:16pm Droll:

[packing up gong, switching to tongs]

I've met a few "don't listen" people. One wouldn't go anywhere so far she'd have to learn new street names. One had self-imposed menu restrictions involving ranch dressing on everything.
Avatar 3:18pm Parq:

Pi, are you getting some of this storm out your way?
Avatar 3:18pm BSI:

I had a 75 cent bag of stale pretzels outta the vending machine. Because I'm a failure soaked in the blood of more failure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Mike East:

chana saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag!
Avatar 3:19pm Kurt Gottschalk:

hi everyone! thanks for tuning in! looks like i'm doing a 4 hour show today.
Avatar 3:20pm Honey Water:

There's no storm in this region according to WU.
Avatar 3:20pm Honey Water:

Yay, go 4 it!
Avatar 3:20pm BSI:

damn you Mike East with your vowel-rich curries...
Avatar 3:22pm BSI:

...but after the stale pretzels I can console myself in the warm loving arms of Laphroaig Quarter-Cask... which would be more appropriate if DC were getting hammered like Boston. more failure...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Mike East:

...and 2 veggie samosas...being eaten too fast, cuz I gotta get outta here.
Avatar 3:24pm Honey Water:

@BSI: Sufficient vowels in Laphroaig, too. You reminded me of Jim James' State Of The Art (A.E.I.O.U.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Mike East:

AND - successfully procured a double neck guitar for SNL and 2 black les paul customs for John Fogerty. The day just gets better.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Kurt, are you going to take calls for Shut Up, Weirdo, or extend your show by an extra hour?
Avatar 3:31pm Kurt Gottschalk:

ken, no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm G:

neither one :P
Avatar 3:33pm Kurt Gottschalk:

ha, yes, neither.
Avatar 3:36pm Cheri Pi:

We are getting no storm here in the 'Natti, just an armchair storm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm G:

In Brooklyn it has now changed to sleet and slightly accumulating on colder surfaces
Avatar 3:37pm BSI:

Maybe get Clay Pigeon in there to BANTER! BANTER!!!!!
Avatar 3:38pm Cheri Pi:

I'm ready to listen about your "Historic storm of epic proportions" on NPR all night, while curled up w/ a 6pack of Yuenlgong [sic] lite.
Avatar 3:38pm Honey Water:

Or Amedeo, who's now nearby?
Avatar 3:41pm slugluv1313:

greetings, Kurt!!!!! hi everyone!!!!! ahhhhh more talk of FOOD :)
ha ha! @ DCE: being 54 years old, i guess that makes me an *official* "middle aged lady" -- have been listening to music all my life, could not stand Journey when they were huge -- altho' NOW i gotta admit i kinda *appreciate* 'em on some sorta "WOW is THAT ever PAINFUL!" level!!!! (and YES!!!! BSI, i am sure that Clay Pigeon could *explain* much better than i!!!)
Avatar 3:42pm Droll:

KG, You sounded so genuinely disappointed when you said "I wish I hadn't selected this 45 this week." No apology necessary... until you play the A-side.
Avatar 3:43pm Cheri Pi:

If Nemo claims another transmitter, I'd like to humbly request an all Blowfly all the time web only program until the damage is repaired.
Avatar 3:44pm Honey Water:

You can still avidly have listened to music but still not know Journey. I'm in that category.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm G:

Some people listen to music more than others. My parents just had kids records to keep us kids busy, and an old copy of Victory At Sea from the 50s. Later (1967ish?) they broke down and got a huge music system furniture thing the size of a small car with a reel to reel, and proceeded to borrow and tape LP's from neighbors and my dad's coworkers. With six kids, you cut expenditure corners.

But yeah, some people are not that desperate for music, or don't want to put out time and money beyond what the great commercial music machine proposes they listen to via free radio and free tv. I started buying my own 45s when I hit about 11 or 12.
Avatar 3:56pm still b/p:

Journey did their pop music thing for them that likes it...no crime. But they surely deserve to be laughed at or throttled for one of the worst videos ever made. Go low budget, fine, but jeeee-zus...
Avatar 3:58pm Kurt Gottschalk:

didn't some out band do a parody of that video recently?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Mike East:

ok, folks. gonna catch a bus before the snow gets worse.
Be safe, East Coasters!
Avatar 4:02pm still b/p:

Don't know...it's a mighty big swing on the parody vine on its own.
Avatar 4:02pm Droll:

Steve Perry's manager also handled Journey, and he's responsible for forcing the two acts together to record all those individually wrapped American cheese food slices. Pre-Perry Journey was actually a very capable fusion band.
Avatar 4:02pm Honey Water:

@still b/p: For me it's just my career path and hobbies involved hearing very little Billboard charting music between about '73 and '91.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm G:

@still b/p and those interested in the whole "hating separate ways video" thing:

""Here's a band at their commercial peak", says Adam Dubin, director of many well-received videos, "and some idiot decided to film them on a wharf and—here's the worst part—instead of giving them instruments, let them mime playing imaginary instruments. The director should be shot. And the manager should be shot for allowing his band to be put in this position."

A decade later, it was heavily ridiculed by Beavis and Butt-head. This greatly upset [the composer] Cain, since he felt Journey's videos had helped make MTV. He called the band's manager repeatedly to ask how they could stop the channel from reairing the segment. In 1999 MTV chose it as 13th on its list of the 25 Worst Videos of All Time.

In 2011, Dave Bahan of Peoria, Illinois, radio station WIXO-FM named the video the worst of all time. He suggested it did not look like the band had put much effort into the video, and criticized their appearance in clothing that, in perspective, seemed to embody the failings of early 1980s popular fashion. However, he allowed that "they looked normal for 1982-83. They likely didn't think they would be judged for their video efforts almost thirty years later." "I'm at a loss to explain that video," says Cain. "I will never live down those air keyboards. No matter what else I've done in my career, sooner or later people find a way to ask me about the 'Separate Ways' video." "
Avatar 4:03pm Honey Water:

Be safe, Mr. East!
Avatar 4:14pm still b/p:

Thanks for the info, G. It makes me say, "Uh-huh, uh-huh," and then sneer-laugh like that kid on the Simpsons, "Eah-hah!"
Avatar 4:23pm Honey Water:

If instead I had had a cushy guvmint job where I could listen the whole workday to radio, or if I'd had cable to watch MTV, perhaps I would have developed a great distaste for Journey, too. ;)
Avatar 4:23pm Droll:

. o O ( I wish I had an hit record to be embarrassed about )
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Carmichael:

Hi ya Kurt. Listening here at my cushy guvmint job.
Avatar 4:31pm Honey Water:

Avatar 4:34pm das:

White Death!
Avatar 4:34pm still b/p:

...where they got that off-the-books Lax Ops budget.
  4:34pm common:

is it winter?
Avatar 4:35pm das:

@Carmichael - me too:)
Avatar 4:35pm steve:

Kurt, i just started applauding at your statement on our winter storm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Needle:

How do you think it makes *me* feel???
Avatar 4:37pm Honey Water:

Kurt is greatly enjoying saying revolting cocks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm G:

Some cocks are revolting. Pricks, too -- ask Ed Koch.
Avatar 4:41pm Honey Water:

Wasn't the timing of that Manhattan water main break close to the announcement of Koch's death? Thought it was perhaps some sort of city workers tribute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm G:

Maybe or maybe not, HW, but the timing of the release of Koch's 2006 or 07 interview with the NY Times on the day of his death was definitely prearranged on both sides :) He got his zingers in, fwiw or not.
Avatar 4:50pm Honey Water:

And now for something completely different ...
  4:51pm ?:

The God-awful *video* of the Revolting Cocks' "Do You Think I'm Sexy." Go watch it. Right this minute! <http://youtu.be/aZCdK6x1hks>
Avatar 4:51pm das:

This is a good snow song.
  4:54pm common:

happy weekending to all!
  4:56pm Cecile:

  4:57pm Kleigh:

If it wasn't for Steve Perry, Journey would still be opening for Grootna.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Carmichael:

Not necessarily a bad thing, Kleigh.
Avatar 5:01pm Honey Water:

Awww, aw ovah the woild indeed! :)
  5:03pm Cecile:

Gregg Rolie shoulda never left Santana, but I'm glad he left Journey and has never regretted it ever.
Avatar 5:07pm das:

Now I've got the chicken pot pie song in my head
  5:07pm Frank Booth:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm G:

It started to snow in early February, I *don't* wonder why!!! :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Carmichael:

This music takes me back where I belong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm G:

I hear someone copying Cream :) who were copying Hendrix :)
  5:17pm Randy Hansen:

Copying Trower copying Mahogany Rush
Avatar 5:17pm Honey Water:

Dino!! My paPA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm fleep:

The backup singers to Deano are just phoning it in.
Avatar 5:19pm Honey Water:

Surely they didn't typo the LP, Kurt? When You're Smiling, si?
Avatar 5:19pm Kurt Gottschalk:

phoning it in can sound really good sometimes.
  5:19pm Wiki:

Martin was born in Steubenville, Ohio, to an Italian father, Gaetano and an Italian-American mother, Angela Crocetti (née Barra). His father was from Montesilvano, Pescara, Abruzzo, Italy, and his mother was of Neapolitan and Sicilian ancestry. Martin had an older brother named Bill. Martin spoke only Italian until he started school. He attended Grant Elementary School in Steubenville, and took up the drums as a hobby as a teenager. He was the target of much ridicule for his broken English and ultimately dropped out of Steubenville High School in the 10th grade because he thought that he was smarter than his teachers.[3] He delivered bootleg liquor, served as a speakeasy croupier, was a blackjack dealer, worked in a steel mill and boxed as a welterweight. He grew up a neighbor to Jimmy the Greek.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm G:

What a Beautiful Little Girl? sounding ever so slightly inappropriate
Avatar 5:20pm Kurt Gottschalk:

typo on the cover, honeyw, pissing me off.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm G:

nice tuneage, Kurt. just making a few cultural observations off to the side :)
Avatar 5:20pm Honey Water:

Wow, that's sad. :,
Avatar 5:21pm Kurt Gottschalk:

Avatar 5:46pm Honey Water:

Wilson + Gershwin = what's not to like?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm northguineahills:

agreed, HW....
Avatar 5:48pm glenn:

is it wrong of me to hate my neighbours BECAUSE THEY HAVEN'T SHOVELED THEIR GOD DAMN SIDEWALK?
  5:50pm Cecile:

nope, not at all.
Avatar 5:55pm Honey Water:

@glenn: Well, certainly not wrong of the Canadian postal service to take serious issue with them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:16pm G:

@moose: one listener's meat is another listener's poison.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:17pm Caryn:

And speaking of the "Separate Ways" video, my fave parody is the Funny or Die "literal version": www.funnyordie.com...

Avatar 6:19pm JoeyCee:

Where are those 2 silly broads? Aren't they on now?
Avatar 6:21pm Honey Water:

"I've got carpal tunnel" -- ha!! Thanks, Caryn!
Avatar 6:22pm still b/p:

Checked the 6:00 local newscasts briefly, with reporters posted by the highway, by the beach, etc. All very dull and routine-storm flavored so far. Not big blizz and winds gone wild time yet.
Cancellation captions more interesting: "Dancing With The Realtors!"
  6:22pm from Quebec:

thanks for the extra hour Kurt!! (no storm here, we're just out of reach. too far north I guess!)

Avatar 6:24pm Honey Water:

Listening, but Philo's home and meal prep will now ensue.

Thank you for the great spins, Kurt! Have safe and warm weekends all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Caryn:

Funnily enough, I never cared for Journey in the 80s, but in the last couple of years, I've suddenly gotten into a lot of cheesy 70s/80s' pop and rock, including Journey. Hell, I sang Styx at my cousin's wedding! I blame TV.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm Caryn:

Dammit, I missed The Specials!
  6:25pm moose:

I liked and still like the Journey Escape Atari 2600 game
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm Carmichael:

Avatar 6:33pm glenn:

so, guys, what's the best internet source for jon stewart / colbert?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:34pm Caryn:

@glenn: probably their own sites. At least that's what I use.
Avatar 6:35pm Cory:

glenn, have you tried hulu?
Avatar 6:35pm glenn:

i mean to say, for watching the episodes. sorry, that was poorly worded.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:37pm northguineahills:

*Confused dog look* ...Awesome, never thought I'd think I'd say that to MJ.
Avatar 6:37pm Cory:

we have hulu plus and get the shows next day
Avatar 6:38pm amEdeo:

I think they have whole episodes on both of their sites.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Caryn:

@glenn: that's what I meant too, glenn. It's the only way I can catch up either, since they're not shown here.
  6:41pm Cliff:

Weird ambient whatever to Michael Jackson to Hall & Oates....my mind is blown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:42pm Rebecca Lewis:

I was confused to see your accuplaylist still on when going to archive your show, but I see you really are still on! I hope you have no trouble getting home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:44pm Ike:

Glenn is in Canada so Hulu might not work there. So do the Daily Show and Colbert sites actually work in Finland? That's surprising. Colbert's site is nice and easy to use.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Caryn:

@Ike: yep. Since hulu doesn't work here, it's been great to notice that the DS & CR sites do work. As does Conan's, but that's not surprising. I suspect he's taken his Finnish fans into consideration.
  6:49pm Cliff:

There's always Usenet.
