@Kat, Pitchers and Catchers report today, you can almost feel the warmth on your face, the smell of BBQ, the thwack of ball against glove, marvellous

I would have been SO mad at me if I had missed KaTe! Hi Irene and THANKS

Quite literally "a head of the game." ;) Your fellow Brit, AndrewC left the "mask a pony" pun re: the horsemeat lasagna's cheese last Friday before noon on Schulkind's list. Couldn't have been but a few minutes after that the same pun was delivered by Mark Kermode in the podcast portion of the Mayo/Kermode BBC-5 Live film reviews. My how fast wit moves around the Kingdom!

@Kat, you listen to Mayo Kermode, awesome, one of my favourite weekly podcasts

@Kat - oooooh yeah, better believe it :)

@Sean: Except for a few weeks when it was for some reason blocked from our Inet Radio, I listen to it live, thus always arriving to GTDS at 11 am or later. I d/l the podcast just to hear the bits before and aft.

@Glenn, for some reason the photo that I took with the I phone came out upside down, not sure how to rectify this

Ooh, can I share my excitement with my fellow listeners but Todd Rundgren is playing in Bristol in June, just got my ticket. As you might know I do have a soft spot for him,
Avatar 12:31pm
kat330:

@glenn: Just FYI, unless you were on earlier under a different handle, I found your first comment on a 7SD playlist was 1.19.2011.

@Parq: Curiously enough, my first find of you on 7SD coincided with my very first post there (minus the "330") on 12.12.2007. Philo was even earlier on 9.5.2007. Yep, I did some researchin' over the weekend with some free time I had.

Lovely to hear this track again from Aaron Parks, Irene,
Avatar 12:32pm

@Sean: That's really mollusk, congrats! I'm still moping because it's now highly unlikely we'll get tix for Leonard Cohen in Louisville, on my birthday no less. :/

I love listening to your terrific shows.

Thank you for making them. :)
Avatar 12:48pm
kat330:

I'd star this for Minnie's voice, but I'm having some trouble with the arrangement, background vocals, etc. Just IMO.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm
Parq:

Ah, something for me to star. Is that "SDTK" designation an error, or was there a movie version of Company?
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 12:55pm
Sean in Bristol UK:

Favouriting a song on the app is dead easy but I am trying on my pc, no luck, click on the star, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm
Irene Trudel:

Oh, I guess it should just be the title of the album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm
Parq:

Sean, I have sometimes had trouble "favorite-ing" a track while it's in play. Wait for the next track and try starring this one again.
Avatar 12:58pm
kat330:

Oh, Irene, finally saw "Searching for Sugar Man" yesterday. What a perfectly put together piece! Wide smiling during his S Africa ovation and joyful in many places. The frames of Rodriguez walking in the snow had us thinking of all you NE-ers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm
Parq:

I was working the dollar LP table at the Record Fair one year. A young woman with an armload of finds told me she had gotten every Orig. Cast album she wanted except "Company". I told her, "Keep looking." Ten minutes later, she triumphantly held up a dollar copy of the Company OC album.
Avatar 12:59pm
Lonious Monk:

hello Irene. this is just perfect show.
thank you so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Parq:

Kat, I agree with you on the Rodriguez doc. I've been calling it a combination of "Anvil - the Story of Anvil", "Buena Vista Social Club" and "The Grapes of Wrath."
  1:02pm
Andy S.:

Elaine Stritch...makes me itch. Actually, I'd prefer to hear Rahsaan Roland Kirk play the stritch.
Avatar 1:04pm
kat330:

That's very astute, Parq. Yep, we both immediately likened it to the sort of build to triumph/joy as "Anvil," having been the one of those more recently viewed.
Avatar 1:05pm
uuee:

So, Irene,
Someone wasn't watching the grammys, but watched "The Great American Dream Machine", with Elaine Stritch doing a horrible rendition.
Avatar 1:07pm
kat330:

Damn, Irene, making me wish to be in Rio for Carnival! Or somewhere warm and festive IAE. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Parq:

uuee, my dad was the lighting director for a number of the studio segments on G-A-D-M. I don't know whether or not he lit the Elaine S stand, which I also remember seeing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm
Sugarfly Waterloo:

I actually had no idea the grammies were on. I am amused that Mumford and Sons is this years Arcade Fire
Avatar 1:14pm
kat330:

No discussions on food yet I noticed. This is sure the week for it. Last night was a Chinese menu, tomorrow night will be Jambalaya, and probably broiled yellowfin tuna for Valentine's Day. What's anyone else doing for this week of holidays?
Avatar 1:18pm
kat330:

I so adore Veloso's "Ile Aiye."
  1:19pm
fritz da silva:

millenium is a famous brazilian collection, not an album per se.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm
Parq:

By the way, Stritch's reading of that song is grating, and I didn't like it either, when I first saw it on GADM back in the day. Decades later, I saw a production of "Company" and dug the context of that song, and Stritch's approach finally made sense to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm
Irene Trudel:

I'm kind of fond of Elaine's abrasive vocal on that. Come to think of it, all her vocals tend to be abrasive, but that's what I love about her.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm
Parq:

Irene, I suspect, that aspect of her singing is what got her cast in "Company" in the first place, as it perfectly fits with the character she played.
  1:36pm
Mark:

"Would you believe it? I have a cold." The nuttiest nuthouse of a song ever. Great stuff.
Avatar 1:36pm
kat330:

@Sean: Sent you my email through the FS procedure -- first time trying that -- because I've rotated your upside down photos and can email those righted files to you if interested. Otherwise you can probably find a simple program, like Windows Photo Viewer, to do that for yourself.
Avatar 1:37pm
Jeff:

When I was a silly kid, Stritch's rendition of _Ladies who Lunch_ (and in particular her apparently casual relationship with the melody) really bugged me. I've since come to love her as the treasure she is, and she can pretty much do no wrong as far as I'm concerned.

Add yeah, her style works great for the Joanne character.

I got to see her _At Liberty_ show a few years back, and she told a bunch of stories which put her career in focus.

Chick Corea on this Miles track; this band never recorded in studio. Still sounds years ahead of its time, 44 years later.

Maids of Cadiz was on MILES AHEAD. What constituted newly discovered? Because it was a totally different arrangement?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm
Irene Trudel:

I think that was the case here. It's on an album of newly discovered works.
