very daft punky. Hey all. I'm out the door....seeya later
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am ausmanx:

news of the week over here was Daft Punk announcing they're going to do global release of their new album at the annual Wee Waa Show, Wee Waa being a small sheep farming town in north west NSW with a population of 2000, about seven hours drive from Sydney. weird
  9:38am common:

a dead song i actually like.
Avatar 9:41am Cheri Pi:

I like their feedback piece, until I heard it I thought I'd never like them.

hi, everyone
Avatar 9:51am Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am DCE:

hi Cecile, hi CP; Ranga! great stuff.
Avatar 9:52am Cheri Pi:

hmmmm. I need this Rangda Dead C split fiercly.
Avatar 9:53am Cheri Pi:

Heya DCE
Avatar 9:53am Cecile:

Wow. that sounds awesome ausmanx. I love it when people play in tiny places. Like Alan Parsons playing in my hometown because a Houghton boy sang on one of his albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am tim from champaign:

I'll say I don't mind the Dead. I do own Oaxamaxao which I dig. I feel they're kinda lightweight in the cosmic psych area. I do enjoy telling people I like the Dead because it typically bums people out.
Avatar 9:55am Cheri Pi:

I'm cool with it now Tim, now that I can relate to the one song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am tim from champaign:

I actually think Feedback was my entre too.

I also like telling Dead haters that Black Flag were into the Grateful Dead.
Avatar 9:57am Cecile:

I don't get bummed out about people liking the Dead. I just don't want to be converted forcibly to liking them, like some of my acquaintances wanted to do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am tim from champaign:

Grateful Dead C.

OK, I'm done.
Avatar 9:58am Cheri Pi:

I'm just into the one song tho- I can't take any of the rest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58am Andrew Waterloo:

Henry Rollins was in Black Flag, isn't that enough to take away the hero worship?
Avatar 9:59am Cecile:

Hammerin' Hank has some of the broadest taste of anyone who came up thru punk rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:00am braveness23:

I don't have any contempt for the Dead but like Jimmy Buffet I think they are a phenomena that I just don't "get" and that isn't really driven by the music but by some other sort of bond. I'm on the outside looking in and am content to so hang out somewhere where I do "get it".
Avatar 10:00am Chris from DC:

Don't mind the Dead, just literally can't understand the people I know who listen to nothing but.
Avatar 10:01am Cecile:

Chris, right. Or people who just listen to SY. Or Frank Zappa. or....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am DCE:

I have liked the Dead since I was a little kid, but never saw any reason to restrict my worldview like so many "Deadheads".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am ausmanx:

i think i could favourite just about ev'rything played so far today, but midnight approaches so it's time to leave work... good evening all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am tim from champaign:

Yep, I'm leery of people who say they dig music but just listen to one narrow aspect of music. Like John Brannon said "There was music before hardcore and music after hardcore."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04am Andrew Waterloo:

I can understand band devotee'ism. It's an identity thing. I just don't understand how loving one band so much doesn't lead to other things.
Avatar 10:04am PKNY:

OH HELL YES! Good call on the Alice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am rsj:

really great show
Avatar 10:05am stingy d:

yea kid! i'm with pkny
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05am Andrew Waterloo:

Avatar 10:05am Cecile:

hahahaha. true. I remember John coming in to Wazoo and buying blues cassettes after Negative Approach broke up.

Hey, got shipbuilding by Robert Wyatt?
Avatar 10:05am Cheri Pi:

I still don't get CCR but if they're good enough for my beloved D.Boone & Cecile that's good enough for me.
Avatar 10:06am Chris from DC:

Andrew, exactly on devotee'ism.
Avatar 10:08am Cheri Pi:

give me freeform, or give me death.
Avatar 10:09am Cecile:

most people want fewer choices. Once they stumble across a band that fits them, they don't need to keep exploring.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:09am Andrew Waterloo:

CCR is basically your proto-shoegazer-country music that ocassionally loses it's way and does blues.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10am DCE:

Alice Coltrane...damn
Avatar 10:10am Cecile:

Or I see it as a fusion of great roots music overlaid by Fogerty's great plainspoken lyrics.
Swag For Life Member 10:11am Ralphine:

There's a Remax house-for-sale sign in my neighborhood that shows Henry Rollins as the realtor. I wonder if it's the same guy.
Avatar 10:11am Jennique:

Actually drove a car to work today, so I listened to WFMU on the car radio and now streaming on-line.
Avatar 10:12am Cecile:

"Equity is my girlfriend."
Avatar 10:12am Cheri Pi:

Heya Jennique :)
Avatar 10:13am stingy d:

i was always bigger on alice than john, does that make me a something?
Avatar 10:13am PKNY:

That's a killer lineup on that Alice track. Pharoah Sanders is that dude.
Avatar 10:16am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Peace be with you.
  10:17am shining:

penderecki and cherry... what a wild idea...
Avatar 10:17am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Oh kingsize awesome happy clappy. Just in time for the Don Cherry/Penderecki jam...
Avatar 10:17am stingy don cherry:

this is my type of shit right here
Avatar 10:17am Cheri Pi:

Welcome. Lettuce prey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:17am Andrew Waterloo:

I find most people are ambivalent about music just as they are ambivalent about sports or politics. But, they're not ambivalent about participating in the conversation so they have their team, their party, and their band and a handful of talking points.
Avatar 10:19am Rev. Turnip Druid:

[bursts in, Bukowski style] ... ASPARAGUS WIGS FOR ALL... MY .. FRIENNNNDS...
Avatar 10:19am Cheri Pi:

Why have I not purchased vol.4 yet? (not sabbath)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Fine-aight:

What a great way to put it, Andrew. Sup y'all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am Andrew Waterloo:

Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Avatar 10:20am Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21am tim from champaign:

Cheri, are you talking about Dick's Picks Vol. 4?
Avatar 10:22am Cheri Pi:

hahahahaha. that too TfC.
Avatar 10:22am stingy d:

dag. this humus just keep getting betta
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:23am Andrew Waterloo:

This is good conversation, but I think my productivity was much higher when I was asleep.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am rsj:

Avatar 10:45am ranjit:

open can of bees? or still sealed and fresh?
10:53am Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

This accompaniment would have made Tusk a much better song, in my opinion.
10:55am Livin on reds, vitamin c and cocaine:

Good question!
10:56am Adam in Portland and Lynnwood:

Scott, free me! All I can do is sway!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Mike East:

Ok I'm back. What'd I miss?
  11:09am Jim B:

Bhattacharya is kind of illustrating Peter Walker's observations about the connections between India and the Spanish tradtion.
Avatar 11:13am Cheri Pi:

ooooo I have this album, that's a killer cover
Avatar 11:21am Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21am Andrew Waterloo:

I would die if that was white vinyl.

My phone turned in WFMU by itself: smartphone.
Avatar 11:24am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Definitely need that Don Cherry item on vinyl. Found a japanese CD re-ish a while back, love it...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Andrew Waterloo:

I just pinged my guy about it.

  2:57pm Larry:

  4:49am MatthewKoshak:

Scott, I'm a bit late on this as I've been on tour for a few weeks now, Coachella and all that meh... Just have to say that, for me, this is one of the best shows of all time. every track smokin my man. Can't believe how cool Orient looks as a twelve inch. And I thought my glossy-cardboard CD version was hot! Ant-Egg lookin great!!! Sounding even better! With love from Bushwick!
