Avatar 3:11pm Cecile:

MN Jeff, I do own multiple copies of "A Nod is Good as a Wink to a Blind Horse." Does that count?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm northguineahills:

Any meta-covers? purple monkey dishwasher?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This covers format today is just asking for a throwdown with Clay Pigeon.
  3:13pm sweet cheri:

hiya caryn, were you shocked when annette died? i was.
Avatar 3:14pm steve:

ngh, that sounds intriguing... whats an example of a meta cover?
Avatar 3:14pm dc pat:

this is fantastically awful!! glad I'm here..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Caryn:

@cheri: liked the beach movies, hated her opinions on social issues, so was not shocked, but a bit saddened
  3:15pm sweet cheri:

happy birthday and many more kurt!
Avatar 3:15pm Cheri Pi:

OK, well that was certainly a detour into madness and back.
Avatar 3:16pm Cheri Pi:

  3:18pm sweet cheri:

hey there julie, good to see ya again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm northguineahills:

Someone covering a cover that is different sounding from the original. I have a few I know, but my brain is stuck on stun right now.
Avatar 3:19pm Sigurdur:

Just because, julie
Avatar 3:19pm Cheri Pi:

Because Madness was mid period Feargal Sharkey. That's why. It's like the brown acid Julie, you've been forwarned.
Avatar 3:19pm Cecile:

DAMN. Gillen was HOT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm Caryn:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Mike East:

Hey Kurt! Diggin' the cover set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm northguineahills:

Pretty much Caryn. There are other's I thought were originals, until I heard earlier incarnations that sound totally different, w/ the same lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Mike East:

oops, just read the show description...looking forward to the rest of the covers show!!!
Avatar 3:24pm Cheri Pi:

I'm still listening to Space Truckin...
Avatar 3:25pm Cheri Pi:

  3:25pm sweet cheri:

ohh btw did you happen to listen to dave the spazz last night, kurt & julie? he did a great tribute to annette.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm northguineahills:

The Danielson Familt has a god cover of Monkberry Moon Delight.
Avatar 3:26pm Cheri Pi:

...Not as bad as a Sunn O))) show tho
Avatar 3:26pm Dr. Goot:

Jonathan Winters has passed as well - www.cnn.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm northguineahills:

Avatar 3:26pm Cheri Pi:

OK, I'm back
Avatar 3:28pm hamburger:

so much enjoy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm northguineahills:

That was rather uncanny. As was my crappy spelling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm Caryn:

@ngh: then there are the more weird versions that feed each other. Like how Dusty Springfield changed the way she sang "Son of a Preacherman" live to match a rhythmic change in the Aretha recording. Or how Barry Manilow decided to start doing the fast version of "Could It Be Magic" when he heard Take That's recording, while Take That started doing the song slow in their concerts. It's as if they traded versions...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm northguineahills:

Exactly, Caryn. And in the pre-internet world, it could eventually become a big game of music telephone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Caryn:

Avatar 3:34pm still b/p:

Fat Albert sings!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Caryn:

BTW, Kurt, Finntengs is the name of the album, not the artist.
Avatar 3:35pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Today is somehow national grilled cheese day I hear. What are you gonna do about it?
Avatar 3:37pm Mary Wing:

I like the gif, MinnJeff!! And may I have the Rod Stewart 45 when you're done with it, Kurt?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm northguineahills:

I have lactose-free yogurt cheese, and some rye, some nice xaconoxtle salsa. (wish I could eat lactose-laden cheese).
Avatar 3:40pm glenn:

more space : torontoist.com...
Avatar 3:42pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

yes, yogurt cheese should be lactose free. many hard cheeses also. Cheddar aged correctly.
Avatar 3:43pm Parq:

Just found out about Jonathan Winters. Damn, that hurts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Caryn:

Ugh, not album, but 7 inch EP. Finntengs is the name of the EP, not the artist. And it's from 2011. The EP is by JS666 and DJ Halitiainen, but that track was by JS666. And I think the track listings are f-ed up, because the name of the song should be "Sleng Teng Pippeli".
  3:43pm sweet cheri:

i have to take my leave now, see ya all later!!
  3:45pm sweet cheri:

bye kurt,julie & caryn
Avatar 3:45pm Mary Wing:

Caryn is the only person here who could understand the press release for Finntengs:
Avatar 3:46pm Kurt Gottschalk:

thanks, caryn!
Avatar 3:53pm hamburger:

speaking of finntengs, had some dumle the other day. just saying
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Caryn:

@Mary: "The Finnteng concept is 1 part the "rock" rhythm track from the crown jewel Casio MT-40 of that Walt Disney of the organ, Tadio Kashio; 1 part the Midas touch of the King Jammy of producers, Lloyd James; and 1 part f-ing hard Finnish music.
The heavenly amalgamation of Japanese engineering know-how, Jamaican bass skills and Finnish folk mashup tradition - the Finnteng concept - is here.
The "Finntengs I" collection introduces tracks created using the Finnteng concept to the masses for the first time. The samples from DJ Halitiainen and JS666 pass on the empowering message that anything is possible in the field of dance, electronic and popular music. As you listen, you can visualize Jaakko Kolmonen (old Finnish tv chef) high-fiveing Wayne Smith. You may end up musing on the similarities and differences between my dingaling and the Sleng Teng dingaling. "Finntengs I" slaps on some colour and gives you the weaponry to get through your daily battles."
I cut some of the boring stuff, but that's about it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Caryn:

@hamburger: which flavour?
Avatar 4:00pm kiemzi:

thanks for not calling me kristen FOR ONCE, kurt! oh also happy birthday dude!
Avatar 4:01pm hamburger:

default toffee one I guess? btw. GROOVES!
Avatar 4:01pm Mary Wing:

Give them the groove, already!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Caryn:

At least they're not calling for more cowbell...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm chinchilla:

this is awesome! what a birthday show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm chinchilla:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Caryn:

@hamburger: yep, that's the original. There's also liquorice and orange flavours available. The banana and mint flavours are discontinued, unfortunately. They just came out with Dumle donuts and muffins (with a toffee centre, apparently). Haven't tried those.
Avatar 4:05pm steve:

Avatar 4:06pm hamburger:

neat finnish candy info caryn!. and neat groove hijack too :)
Avatar 4:06pm Cecile:

Avatar 4:13pm Kurt Gottschalk:

  4:14pm andrew:

Avatar 4:15pm hamburger:

what's groovin on?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Mike East:

yes, terrific, exellent, fantastical, adjectives, etc. yeah!
  4:16pm DS:

reminds me of "Sun City Girls"
Avatar 4:16pm Cecile:

Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Ralphine:

This is sort of like a Buddy Guy live show, where he'll usually stop in the middle of a song and move on to another one.
  4:16pm common:

Yes! YES!!!!!!!!
  4:17pm 187:

4:20 is delightfully early today
Avatar 4:21pm Sigurdur:

Avatar 4:38pm Cecile:

  4:41pm common:

another great cover!
  4:47pm emmagineering:

wow what a great cover
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Caryn:

I can't star every great track, so I'll just star the whole damn show. Nice work, Kurt!
Avatar 4:51pm steve:

whos singing this one?
Avatar 4:51pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Thanks, Mary. I don't think I have favorited anything yet and found myself wanting to with that. First favorite, I think. Unless I favorited somethings during one of my manic swings and I don't remember.
Avatar 4:53pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

nope, I checked. That is the first song or track I favorited. But many shows I have on there.
Avatar 4:56pm Mary Wing:

A fine first favorited, Mark!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Caryn:

BTW, Mary, great show the other day! Sorry I couldn't stay awake to listen to it live. (The same for Julie, if she's still lurking around.)
Avatar 4:59pm Cecile:

can you play the Urinals doing "Why Are We Sleeping?"
Avatar 5:03pm Mary Wing:

Thanks Caryn! But how do you listen to archives when you're always listening to the current show? :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04pm Caryn:

Hah, Mary!
Avatar 5:06pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

Any suggestions for a Jonathan Winters/grilled cheese tribute for us to watch tonight? TV show appearances or movies.
Avatar 5:07pm hamburger:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Caryn:

@GMMMark: well, his appearances on The Jack Paar Show were always superb. "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" is an obvious choice, of course. His own tv show is another obvious one.
Avatar 5:11pm Mary Wing:

Love "It's a MMMM World" oh yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm northguineahills:

Gotta vamoosify! cheers everyone, enjoy the weekend!
Avatar 5:13pm Mary Wing:

Tell these guys that if they ever want to show up announced for my show, they are more than welcome!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Caryn:

@GMMMark: I also have a bit of a soft spot for "The Russians Are Coming The Russians Are Coming". And for a more dramatic turn, "Moon Over Parador".
Avatar 5:15pm Parq:

Sounds a lot like a Replacements set I once caught.
Avatar 5:16pm Cecile:

hahahaha, I saw one of those once....
Avatar 5:16pm hamburger:

Groove Groove Groove!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Carmichael:

Hiya Kurt and minotaurs of all sizes.
Avatar 5:17pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

my favorite list has grown to two.
Avatar 5:17pm steve:

so many laughs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Caryn:

@GMMMark: oh, and although his "Twilight Zone" episode is kinda meh, he's really good in it. Another example of his dramatic talents.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Kat in Chicago:

Groovin' on a Friday afternoon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Caryn:

@GMMMark: for grilled cheese, I might recommend the "My Name is Earl" episode where they try to send fake messages from god to Roseanne via grilled cheese sandwiches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Carmichael:

I guess someone has to command the groove. Might as well be these guys.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22pm Caryn:

@GMMMark: the grilled cheese episode of "Glee" is best avoided, even with some excellent dramatic turns.
Avatar 5:22pm Cecile:

axl rose!
Avatar 5:24pm hamburger:

these groove commanders may just be my favorite band ever. who are these people?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Caryn:

@GMMMark: ooh, the main candidate for grilled cheese movie would be "Benny & Joon". The making of grilled cheese sandwiches with an iron is quite significant in that.
Avatar 5:25pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i wish i knew! they just forced their way in. i don't think they gave me their real names...
Avatar 5:26pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

My daughter wathces/watched glee. I'll ask her. She also binged through almost every episode of Roasanne on Netflix.
Avatar 5:26pm Parq:

@ Cile, 5;16. Were their shows always like that, or did they sometimes do actual, y'know, performances and it was just luck of the draw?
  5:26pm Fredericks:

Avatar 5:26pm Dave in PA:

Stink. Stank. Stunk!
  5:28pm fRED:

groove commanders are ruling
  5:28pm Marmalade Kitty:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm tim from champaign:

Getting into Royal Trux territory right this moment.
Avatar 5:28pm Green Mountain Man Mark:

wow. so many choices. maybe we can narrow it down to the perfect Jonathan Winters combination grilled cheese day movie, or show, or even cameo.
Avatar 5:30pm hamburger:

bravo groove!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Carmichael:

Hey, a Shaggs cover?
Avatar 5:34pm Parq:

Are any of the musicians on this Shaggs cover among those currently playing in the Dot Wiggin Band?
  5:35pm Fredericks:

Unlikely, Parq.
Avatar 5:36pm Kurt Gottschalk:

parq, pretty sure not
Avatar 5:38pm Parq:

"Weehawkwind"? Hee.
Avatar 5:39pm steve:

if im not mistaken, FMU DJ Jesse Krakow (who i think may be in the Groove Commanders... ????) was in the Dot Wiggin Band

IS this the Billy Nayer Show in disguise?
Avatar 5:40pm steve:

i mean, Jesse Krakow's demented German cousin
  5:41pm Fredericks:

I was referring to Alarm Will Sound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Mike East:

very smart kraftwerk cover. love it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Mike East:

Alarm Will Sound rehearses here a lot. They always require lots of percussion...and usually some very obscure and random percussion that we have to scramble to procure.
