Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Favoriting May 23, 2013: The Dusty Show - Street Conversations and BITERS!

Listen to this show: Pop-up listen Pop-up player!

Artist Track Album Label Year Format Comments Approx. start time
As you may have noticed, the shows have been a bit less produced of late. A testament to a lack of time. WIth this show, interviews were done on Wednesday, dumped to cassette, mixed with Biters and aired next day. I could probably have interviewed more people for less time, but, the shows write themselves as conditions allow, so they are what they are ... little snapshots, and that's not so bad. Appreciate your listening. We have to log EVERY bit of music this week. Logs. 4 times a year. It's a chore. Here we go. Wait ... OK .... now.

Dumpcake Intro (off to a good start - tape speed set on ultra-low ... had to bring it up quickly).
Dumpcake concept dumped quickly and not mentioned again. Sometimes that happens. Start off with an idea and it doeesn't gel? Jettison it. Re-align.

I like to visit my neighborhood flea market as it is shutting down on Sunday night. Often, there are piles of discarded junk, including LP's that have been left behind ... the great unwanted. On this particular night a light rain was falling and I saw a little 'box in the evening rain.' I asked a couple of gentlemen if it was OK to look at them and they invited me to take them. What could I do but look and bring the results to you. The BITERS!

Longest playlist I've done in a while! Hope you enjoyed the show. I like finding the records week of show. I know that it doesn't always mean I play the BEST music I could possibly play, but I like the way it defines the content and (to a small degree) removes me from the equation and places a little more in the hands of fate. It is kind of mindblowing to see and hear what would otherwise be burning at some landfill in Mahwah.

So, I have lots of Dusty thoughts tonight, but I hesistate to really get into it. I need some sleep. I do notice that my email and show comments have been steadily dwindling in recent weeks and I do pay attention to that. I've blamed myself in 100 ways as to why that is. Over-exposure, being annoying, being perceived as lazy, berating Fabio, my irritating new presence on social media, where it is revealed how boring I am, time and the natural arc of things ... I have been thinking long and hard about whether to renew for the Summer Season (assuming I would be picked to continue, which I'm not) but it's very hard to walk away. On one hand, could I use a break? Probably. Been doing this show and similar versions of it pretty steadily since 1998. I think of time I could spend with my wife, painting, drawing, doing music, writing, etc. but I would really MISS you and the Dusty Show. I would. So, we'll see. I have pretty thick skin if you'd ever like to give me your assessment. Let me have it! Just be honest, I can't see the forest for the trees.

All that said, life is good! I'm excited about going up to the Catskills for a few days. Nature is precious when you live in Manhattan. Can't wait to breathe the fresh air and hear the coyotes howl at night. Thanks for listening you guys. Look me up on Facebook and Twitter. Keep listening. Always remember those who deserve remembering this Memorial Day weekend and tune in again. Much love an respect. Clay.

At night in rural Iowa, the smell of the hogs would drift in from the farms, and the starlings would arrive in great swarming flocks, settling into the Dutch Elms and gnarled oaks. Men would come out and bang on pots and pans. They'd even shoot shotguns into the trees to scare the starlings away. Sometimes the spent shot would rain down from above, gently pelting the casual walker. Meanwhile, the poor birds fell and were grimly collected in Super Valu bags.
