Ironically, Converse sneakers were cheap until the original American manufacturer went out of business due to a temporary phase of non-popularity for their brand. Another company bought the brand, shipped all manufacturing to China, and made them expensive. You see the same phenomenon with brands like Clarks – their classic desert boots are also made in China, but more expensive than ever.

Hackensack Slim:

Michael,
You are 100% correct about Converse. I wore them since I was a kid. And they always wore out on the soles after about 2 years. After the sale to the other company, the price doubled(which I could live with) but then they started tearing on the sides after 6 months. Definitely designed to wear out sooner. So they cost twice as much and last 25% as long. In effect an 800% price increase. Pro Keds are available via mail order but a very slim selection, color wise. It ain't easy being cool.

ChooChoo - ATL:

Great cover of "I Don't Know Want to Know The Reasons I Love You!"
Avatar 12:30pm
Phelger Nank:

Great show, as ever.

Ted's right, though. Mike, you constantly moan & whinge. Converse, pretty much all movies, fancy music, people who don't return emails or answer in the manner that you want, 'haters,' impolite people, Wikipedia, the internet generally, popular music today, modern production methods, hipsters, drug users, people who disagree with you, Spotify....I could go on. You rant 2-3 times every show. You're very negative, man. I'm only backing up Ted because you haven't taken his comment seriously. It's plain as day, man. Listen to your own shows on archive...

I am a doctor and I proscribe more green tea and massages.

In this show I've praised the live remote we had last Thursday, talked about how great Jay's new cds is and been enthusiastic about every record I've played. If it's too negative for you - switch it off.

Hackensack Slim:

Tell' em Mike. If something sucks and you point it out, that's being a observant realist. It's not being negative. Love your show, man.
Avatar 1:05pm
Michael Shelley:

I try keep it to complaining about people who are not constructive - not the same thing as complaining about people who are negative. & Thanks for sticking up for me!
