Way to hit the post on the breast feeding story!

Mike East:

well, michael shelley's on. time to run some errands. i'll be enjoying the show in the car. have a good one!
  11:17am
Sean:

I am sure there is a tie in to your guests or something, but as far as your radio show goes, I think this might be the lamest song I have ever heard you spin Mike. (Our Lips Are Sealed).
  11:17am
Peter:

Always liked Wiedlin, Kathy Valentine, and Gina Schock is under-rated as a drummer. But I thought the band would have been better with a different lead singer. Maybe not as popular on MTV, but would have been better.
Avatar 11:17am
Uke Goldberg:

I saw the Go Go's on an all Stiff bill with Desmond Decker and Madness.
  11:18am
Sean:

If you can bring together the "Lips Sealed" song theme and the breastfeeding story I might have a change of opinion.
Avatar 11:19am
Uke Goldberg:

I was warned not to go because of my long hair and the skinhead fan base.

Michael Shelley:

OUCH Sean - no tie in - besides being a #1 hit.
  11:33am
Peter:

And think about it.. radio goes into space.. so after some years (nearest planets are a few light years away). ears on other planets could hear it. Our 'oldies' are new to them.
  11:34am
Jay Gonzalez:

Love that sonny Curtis tune. Just finished reading a behind the scenes book on the Mary Tyler Moore show- never knew sonny wrote/sang the theme song.

Surf's Up! Oh Boy, author Ian Rusten!

I always thought of them as an oldies act.
  12:02pm
HKRBK67119:

Thanks for all that great information, Ian!
  12:06pm
ian:

Thank you!
  12:07pm
Juz:

They are the greatest band ever... I mean greatest SURF band ever... Other than the Ventures. And Mommyheads.
  12:08pm
Juz:

Will Mr. Rusten write a book about the Mommyheads next? Wasn't Mike Love in that band.
  12:08pm
ian:

Not sure about the Mommyheads, but I agree they were a great band!
  12:09pm
Juz:

Great interview, seriously. Can't wait to see the book.
  12:11pm
Ann:

Hey Ian, great interview! Can't wait to read the book (unlike Juz, who will just look at the pictures...)
  12:14pm
ian:

Thank you. I hope you like it. If you are near Brooklyn-I'll be having an event at Book Court on 163 Court St on July 19. See you there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm
Barkevious Shabazz:

I can listen to the Fun Boy 3 version of Our Lips all goddam day. And cowritten by Terry Hall. So there.
  12:17pm

What a contrast to Belinda Carlisle. Kim Shattuck is one of rock's greatest vocalists.

Tremendous interview!

Agreeing with Steve^. The music is transcendent. Great story, too, and happy for every bit of delayed success and appreciation these brothers are now experiencing!

God bless their dad. "If you're going to do it, do something that is yours." Parental advice doesn't get much better.
