Wire is coming to states soon for two shows in Seattle and that's it, apparently.
Avatar 3:34am KP:

King of Incongruous.
Avatar 3:43am Droll:

kp, Not necessarily, tell me more about Wire here in Seattle.
Avatar 3:47am KP:

It's three dates Nov. 21-23. Part of a festival. Seems like club shows. i have a few Settle types on my FB feed and they were all atwitter over it.
Avatar 3:57am KP:

Gary Numan just played a couple of shows here. Have not heard about them.
Avatar 3:59am Mary Wing:

NDW = Neue Deutsche Welle (New German wave, duh)
Avatar 3:59am Droll:

KP, Looks like just one Wire show, they're hosting the others. If you ever miss a show, just check YouTube the next morning.
  4:01am Daniel T. from Copenhagen:

NDW probably stands for Neue Deutsche Welle, i.e. New German Wave.
  4:01am Daniel T. from Copenhagen:

Damn, Mary best me to it...
Avatar 4:01am KP:

Kathy Fennessy i think was saying they would play all three despite the listings.
Avatar 4:03am KP:

Mary Wing! How have you been?
Avatar 4:04am Mary Wing:

I'm right outside the studio, Daniel, so my post didn't have far to travel. :-)

Editors. I like that name.

Hi Julie & everyone ^_^
hope everyone is good ^_^
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:32am Julie:

Morning, Andrew!
Avatar 4:32am fred von helsing:

WFMU needs this kind of gear, I hope the stuff in the new performance space will be mobile for major events, or does the station already have this kind of stuff? www.facebook.com...
  4:34am Meghan:

And a Cocteau Twins song that you never hear! Nice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37am Matt from Springfield:

Just in time for CTs! Lullabies/Wake Up Songs for Violaine...

Morning Julie and everyone!
  4:37am Meghan:

FVH- we have portable gear. That is how a lot of off site broadcasts happen. But if we put that in the performance space then we don't have it for off site stuff. We did use it in the performance space for the Hoof and Mouth this past year
Avatar 4:37am KP:

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:38am Julie:

Good morning, matt!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:38am Julie:

matt why you up sooo early?
Avatar 4:40am KP:

He has to beat the Beltway.
Avatar 4:41am fred von helsing:

Not a lot of offsite broadcasts tho, are there ? Is it an issue with the gear or maybe just with people power ? Just curious. /Listener 128047 :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41am Matt from Springfield:

KP! Fortunately I don't need to use any of those on a daily basis!

I crashed sooo early last night, DST transitions tire me out!
Avatar 4:42am KP:

Great version of this Moody Blues.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:43am Julie:

FVH plenty of offsite broadcasts, Rob Weisberg does them all the time. And record fair. And Barcelona.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:43am Julie:

that's one reason I don't go to bed too early, wake up too early throws off everything
  4:44am Andrew:

mmm nice moody blues, haven't got this album. Love this song ^_^
(also the Lights & Cocteau Twins songs were good too)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am Matt from Springfield:

Judie Tzuke! Been a while since I heard her.
Avatar 4:46am KP:

This only place where we hear Judie Tzuke!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am Matt from Springfield:

Sadly true--smooth Arista production in general doesn't get much respect anymore!
Avatar 4:50am fred von helsing:

Ah Renaissance :-D
Right, Weisburg seems to come on in the middle of the night here. So how much stuff do y'all ship to Barcelona ? There's like multiple venues you broadcast from ? When I said "not too many" I meant, I'd think WFMU would have some nice arrangements with lots of NY/NJ venues. Throw the gear in a truck and go :-D but I've never done this mobile stuff myself so I don't know what the headaches and routine crises and potential hernias are
Avatar 4:51am KP:

This Renaissance is so epic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54am Matt from Springfield:

*Xylophonic* epic!!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:54am Julie:

All the gear goes out to record fair, I had a band wanting to come in that weekend but no gear!
Avatar 4:55am Droll:

This Renaissance is so prog!
Avatar 4:55am fred von helsing:

"Some day it will all be done with computers." :-P
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55am Matt from Springfield:

They oughta serenade the Record Fair, then! Dark Night Live Show/Record Fair!
Avatar 4:56am KP:

FVH did you hear Ashrae Fax on Julie's show last week. Recorded at FMU and sounded like Abbey Road.
Avatar 4:56am fred von helsing:

Annie Haslam in one ear, Kat Bjelland in the other
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:56am Julie:

hehe late night live band broadcast.. record fair post show
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 4:56am Julie:

FVH listening to both at once??
Avatar 4:56am KP:

Avatar 4:56am fred von helsing:

@KP nope, was away, will check it !
Avatar 4:57am fred von helsing:

@julie no, not both at once, but... a guy's gotta have goals, don'tcha know :)
Avatar 4:59am KP:

  4:59am Meghan:

Doing remotes are not easy! Finding an engineer to do them is hard and throwing stuff in a truck means you have to have one first. Not many people here have cars. As for Barcelona, we bring a lot of wav recorders and plug directly into the board. Then they run back and edit it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00am Matt from Springfield:

"Goth piggy banks"--a leather sack, that you need a razor to open! ;)
Avatar 5:02am KP:

Avatar 5:03am KP:

Good night Julie, great show.
Avatar 5:03am fred von helsing:

WFMU@Barcelona, powered by SneakerNet ! What kinds of WAV recorders ? Do el-cheapos like the Zoom H2 & H4 work OK ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05am Matt from Springfield:

Night, KP.

Wow, you used to speak Italian, Julie? Did you take that in school, or spend time in Italy?
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:05am Julie:

Took it in school, high school and college. It's mostly gone, although when I went to Tuscany a few years ago I could understand some of it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10am Matt from Springfield:

Nice language, hard to find it in some schools, similar to other Romance languages I guess. Italy is a great place to visit though.

In fact I first thought that album and band name was Latin, it's so similar--Camerata Mediolanense prob means "little chamber of Milan".
  5:12am Andrew:

we did italian in high school, only yr 7-9, cos yr 10-12 was japanese.
I remember a few words that's about it O_O
Avatar 5:14am fred von helsing:

had a chance to see No Joy... d'oh
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:14am Julie:

it's an easy language, things are pronounced as they look
Avatar 5:18am jamesie:

ah yes now where is my 12" of the Scritti... havnt heard this for a while
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:31am Meghan:

FVH, we have nicer more expensive WAV recorders than a Zoom! You also have to keep in mind that what you saw was the set up for KEXP. They are a commercial station who gets funding from lots of places. We are NOT commercial, so we don't have a disposable income like they do. We have to budget out our money.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am Matt from Springfield:

Smooth early 90s sound in newer songs, these last few tracks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34am Matt from Springfield:

@Meghan: Not technically "commercial", but as part of the NPR network KEXP is receiving government, corporate, university and foundation grants--NONE of which we receive, or ask for!

Like the mendicant friars, FMU is a "mendicant" (begging) station!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37am Matt from Springfield:

Beautiful singer! Love this folk from Turid.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:38am Meghan:

Matt, they don't play commercials? I thought they did.... But needless to say, they are getting funding where we aren't! ha!
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:38am Meghan:

I love this Donovan song..... too bad this wasn't his hit.....
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:39am Julie:

NPR type commercials maybe
  5:40am Andrew:

wow, this doesn't sound like donovan O_O
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40am Matt from Springfield:

Just another Jersey Thursday here...

Yeah, "underwritten by" snippets I bet.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:40am Julie:

very early Don. I can't believe it took me THIS long to play something called Jersey Thursday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41am Matt from Springfield:

@Andrew: Check out his early, '65 era recordings when he was essentially influenced by early Dylan. Very acoustic and troubadour.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42am Julie:

Not Dylan! Guthrie..he always points that out.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:42am Meghan:

Wow, Gus Gus going into a trance sound.... I have never heard this! ha!
Avatar 5:42am fred von helsing:

Better recorders I hope so! Frickin' Zooms. NPR? OK. Their main d00d was saying that they and WFMU are about the only stations that can tell everyone to stuff it except the FCC and their listeners. Their board is only 2/15 from the university. He rattled off some other call letters (WNYC,...) that he said were not so lucky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: I remember "Ruby Tuesday" during your last Tuesday show--if you'd thought of it then, you could have then played "Jersey Thursday" on the first Thursday show.

Goodbye Ruby Tuesday, hello Jersey Thursday! ;)
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:44am Julie:

hehe yep..last thing i played I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45am Matt from Springfield:

@Julie: Ah, but of course. Both influenced from Guthrie, but by the early 60s both had a sound slightly different from Guthrie's originals.
Avatar 5:46am fred von helsing:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51am Matt from Springfield:

Hmmm, actually godparents are "Pate" und "Patin".

Mmm, these kebab dreams are pretty filling...
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 5:52am Julie:

what's a kebab dream?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54am Matt from Springfield:

In Germany, I bet it's ordering from the kebab stands late at night while in a drunken stupor ;)
