Morning Fred & Fox!
Avatar 3:29am

Glad you like it, because there's lots of it!
Avatar 3:30am

Hence the early start. My little mins figured that out, sort of.
Avatar 3:31am
KP:

Avatar 3:32am
Julie:

Off-mic note, this is the song she performed in the movie, but she actually did 1984
Avatar 3:32am
Julie:

Well, her "character" in the movie.
Avatar 3:42am
KP:

I thought that was you live just then. This is tremendous. I think that is because she and the group are so public but you dont really know what such people are like until they open up in the right setting.
Avatar 3:43am
fred von helsing:

inspiring words from the CC :)
Avatar 3:45am
Julie:

Vicki Blue made the documentary Edgeplay about the band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48am
Guido (Cologne):

Edgeplay is worth seeing.
Avatar 3:48am
Julie:

Yes, I liked it.
Avatar 3:50am
fred von helsing:

It's on disk. Getting psyched to check it :-D
Avatar 3:50am
KP:

Edgeplay is the only thing ive seen about them. It was great.
Avatar 3:52am
KP:

Read a lot about them. Kim Fowley is of interest to me.
Avatar 3:55am
fred von helsing:

great story about the corset. it's true, the decade's music was visually-oriented, which kinda left me cold, but I could make one exception :-P
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55am
Guido (Cologne):

Some two years ago Arte-TV (France/Germany) did a documentary about all-female-groups.
And the resulting tenor was like "most of the time the was only svengali-puppets and the came Warpaint". Taking in considerationthat the feature even included an interview with Cherie Currie, it was all even more than just annoying. It was so painstriking stupid!
Avatar 3:56am
Julie:

that's a shame guido!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00am
Guido (Cologne):

Is there a chance that the live footages from Runaways will be available in a decent (Sound/picture) quality in some future? You definetly have to see them live to get the real picture. YouTube helps, but som good sound woul be grat. (By the way Vicki Blue's treatments altered soundwork surprisingly well, but of course only for the documnetary.)
Avatar 4:01am
Julie:

I think Live in Japan came out on video out some point, not sure it's on DVD though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am

This would be great to have!
Avatar 4:03am
KP:

YA-Runaway.
Avatar 4:04am
KP:

I agree with Cherie.
Avatar 4:10am
fred von helsing:

"and then came Warpaint" uh *OK* so it's them that's the first to throw off the chains of music industry sexism
Avatar 4:10am
Mary Wing:

Do we get to see her carvings?
Avatar 4:10am
Julie:

I don't know who Warpaint is
Avatar 4:11am
fred von helsing:

Warpaint's been my fave for a while :-D I describe it to people as stoner psychedelic shoegaze
Avatar 4:12am
KP:

If Guido is not still here, i thought he just meant heavy makeup/
Avatar 4:12am
fred von helsing:

she's right, the net is entrenching sniping and cynicism as social norms and it is very very fucked up
Avatar 4:13am
KP:

Well im wrong. Thanks, FVH.
Avatar 4:14am
fred von helsing:

this gal's a punk zen master :)
Avatar 4:14am
Julie:

ah FVH I must investigate
Avatar 4:14am
KP:

Ha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am
Guido (Cologne):

No, the documentary actually ended with an interview with Warpaint and about how great group-interaction is.

(by the way, I'm a fan of Warpaint myself and I was lucky enaufgh to have them on the only show in Germany i a venue just round the corner from my home.)
Avatar 4:15am
KP:

The Ha was for FVH.
Avatar 4:16am
fred von helsing:

Warpaint - my friends tend to dismiss it as too melancholic but part of what I love about them is in their songs (typically 6~8 minutes) they resolve the melancholy into something positive and filled with the electricity of life. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it :)
Avatar 4:18am
Julie:

I love that she likes the corny songs too, one super-corny one is coming up, and Ken will hate me for it ;)
Avatar 4:18am
fred von helsing:

I worked a backstage gig and got a chance to chat very briefly with each of them and get a CD autographed. A thrill. I love their music so much.
Avatar 4:19am
KP:

Oh, goodie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20am
Guido (Cologne):

Warpaint have a certain sense of funkyness.
(And Jenny Lindberg looked like a disco-diva on stage in Cologne.)
Yes and they jam their songs out on their shows, which is a great thing.
Avatar 4:23am
KP:

Hey her carvings, nice work.
Avatar 4:23am
fred von helsing:

that's true there's a funkiness but they sort of keep it wrapped in angst which is also oddly cool :)
Avatar 4:24am
Julie:

Her site is www.chainsawchick.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25am
Guido (Cologne):

I have an abivaleentrelation to autographs.
I don't like the beautiful artworks to be spoiled.

Angst wrappened in funkiness ... some good old tradition ... A Certain Ratio ... Pop Group ... etc.
Avatar 4:25am
KP:

Cool.
Avatar 4:25am
Julie:

I purposely picked the record with lots of white space. I rarely ask for them.
Avatar 4:26am
KP:

That song was good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26am
Guido (Cologne):

Yeeeaaaah ... watch the sculptures!

Baselitz F**** O** and hide, hehehe
Avatar 4:27am
KP:

THat's about the best autograph ive ever seen, for overall look and personal message.
Avatar 4:27am
Julie:

She signs and poses for pictures after all her shows too.
Avatar 4:28am
Julie:

I really enjoyed her book. I read the young adult version before I really got into her music.
Avatar 4:29am
KP:

I saw that she posed with with a red-faced Joe Mc.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31am
Guido (Cologne):

Yesterday I asked Lee Ranaldo NOT to include my my name on the autograph.
And ripped the shrink wrap at the place where I wanted it.
Now it looks perfect. Fits the design.
Avatar 4:31am
Julie:

There would've been no PJ Soles!
Avatar 4:33am
KP:

I missed that.
  4:33am
Meghan:

Morning! Yay I didn't miss this!
Avatar 4:33am
Julie:

We didn't have time for all her song picks while she was there, so there will be a bunch of those after the interview wraps up
Avatar 4:34am
Julie:

Morning Meghan, you missed a lot!
Avatar 4:34am
KP:

It's been on since very beginning of show!
  4:34am
Meghan:

Damn! Archives!
Avatar 4:35am

yeah I started at just after 3am
Avatar 4:35am
fred von helsing:

damn this gal has her head screwed on right
Avatar 4:36am
Julie:

She went through a lot to get there, and I think the counseling she did helped.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37am
Guido (Cologne):

@Julie ... typing and interviewing at once ... incredible.

... off to work ... back soon ...
Avatar 4:38am
KP:

There is a bit of that speak, those keywords, but not in off-putting way. It's fascinating.
Avatar 4:38am
Julie:

bye bye Guido!
Avatar 4:39am
KP:

Finally, Fowley!
Avatar 4:40am
fred von helsing:

hee hee whoops hearing her talk is like hanging out in my neighborhood punk rock bar. so many people with weird junk in their heads squeezing out their souls.
Avatar 4:40am
Julie:

Im so excited about the new album! Hopefully I can get her back, if only via phone
Avatar 4:40am
KP:

Had no idea she was in touch with him. I thought it was war!
Avatar 4:41am
fred von helsing:

so she's totally clean ? no drink at all ? does she ride the nicotine horse ? a caffeine junkie ? color me curious.
Avatar 4:41am
KP:

This is great.
Avatar 4:41am
Julie:

While Cherie and I were recording, Kim Fowley was calling in to Chris T on Aerial View
Avatar 4:42am
Julie:

She smokes electronic cigarettes
Avatar 4:42am
KP:

Somebody wrote that on Facebook. Very funny.
Avatar 4:42am
Eyepatch Fox:

Yay for e-cigs!
Avatar 4:43am
Julie:

She was sitting there and I was like, whoa there's smoke coming from your hand.
Avatar 4:44am
fred von helsing:

@e-fox I second that. I know people that aren't sure whether it's socially acceptable or not but, well, it's an admission that you're hooked and it's a lot less harmful t'ya.
Avatar 4:44am
Julie:

The famous corset, by the way, had been stolen and was just returned to her on this tour.
Avatar 4:47am
KP:

Ken just woke up screaming.
  4:50am
Meghan:

Andy Breckman I think is dreaming louder
Avatar 4:50am
fred von helsing:

Whoa! Corset on the Run! What's the story behind the theft ??
Avatar 4:51am
Julie:

I don't know! I didn't hear about it till a couple days later when she got it back. Some friend bought it for her, guess whoever had it was selling it.
Avatar 4:51am
KP:

I think i can recite that Andy Breckman page verbatim.
  4:52am
b k:

missed some of the interview but from what I heard it was the most moving interview I have heard on the station in over twenty years as a listener.thank you Julie.
Avatar 4:53am

I have to go Julie. Thanks, This was really special. Especially at end there. I didnt expect that. Godd night.

Avatar 5:08am
Julie:

This is from the album that is so far unreleased by Blackheart Records
Avatar 5:09am
fred von helsing:

Yeah after what she's been thru I 'spect she's got a pretty finely tuned toxic person detector. I'm wondering about her book "Neon Angel", has anyone read it, any age warnings for it as a gift to a niece ?
Avatar 5:10am
Julie:

You'd have to get the original version, the new one has all the "adult" stuff in it. Both talk about drugs, but she left the sex out of the first one
Avatar 5:11am
Julie:

It was marketed as a young adult book.
Avatar 5:13am
fred von helsing:

Yeah but who knows what the heck "young adult" means any more :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13am

Cherie Bomb!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14am

talking about adult-stuff.
Lita Ford's last outing was the only one I really enjoyed.

All the BDSM-stuff is not for me (physically *grin*).

Too bad to hear about Lita's family bythe way.

Incredible interview - Cherie was so delightful and open, and wise! Whatever lessons life's thrown at her, she's learned from them and conquered them. This kind of deeply personal perspective from a history-maker is truly a treasure.

Thanks so much for coming to WFMU, Cherie! And thanks Julie for sharing this!

Thank you, Julie. I hope you can speak with Cherie again - I'd love to hear more stories from her post-'84/Neon Angel life. Superb interview.

And yeah, Annie, damn. Gets me every time.
