Evening, friends and neighbors.

Days are so short now, it's dark before the Final Stretch starts. After the Daylight Savings Time is over we'll get that extra hour of gaps between songs back.
Avatar 10:10pm
Dave Mandl:

Yes. I can hardly wait. Meanwhile, I have something for you, Mr. @Droll.
Avatar 10:10pm

Some gaps are nice.

Hey, @fleep. Yes, gaps are very underrated.

Nice. Thanks!

Evening, JG.

DM, Mary Wing already played Tarkus in it's entirety for me -- I have all the holiday gifts I need... But hey! That can't really be an original tour shirt?!?! Looks new!
Avatar 10:15pm
Dave Mandl:

Never satisfied, @Droll...No, it's not from 1973. I probably got it in the very early '90s.
Avatar 10:17pm
Dave Mandl:

I only wear it on special occasions.

Dave , I think you've already filled your 2% R@R quota for the evening with the Wishbone Ash, or shall we expect an appearance from Ozark Mountain Daredevils later?
Avatar 10:32pm
Dave Mandl:

Evening, @ss. It's *always* possible I'll play the Ozark Mountain Daredevils. But I'll stay on the air an extra hour or two if necessary to get back under 2%.
Avatar 10:33pm

I like the way you think Dave :)
Avatar 10:35pm

It's a small price to pay, but so be it. Spin up the OMD!

Can you imagine the disappointment if you played OMD instead of OMD? Like eating an orange after brushing your teeth.

Bad Company by Bad Company from Bad Company. My fave one of those things!

Your're clairvoyant Dave, (actually was thinking Led Zepplin) :)
Avatar 10:38pm

Our host had a week off recently, maybe the unused portion of the 2% accumulates like unused cell phone minutes...

@kent: Why, thank you.

Everyone loves a trifecta.
Avatar 10:38pm

@ll: True. I only wish the label were Bad Company too. Oh well.
Avatar 10:40pm

The only known Quadfecta is Family of God, which Scott Williams confirms the station owns a copy of.
Avatar 10:41pm
Whooda:

Just noticed the Swan Song label, your're physic powers are nothing to scoff at there Dave
Avatar 10:43pm
Dave Mandl:

@Whooda: Thanks. I played that track because the piano flowed so nicely from the M. Crispell piece. But I was talking about the Swan Song label on the show last week, so...

@Dave. I was just thinking to myself that it's just like you to make the classy decision to go with the Bad Company choice. You are a true master of this music stuff.

DM is dragging me back to Bad Company/Swan Song -- I recently rediscovered a related supergroup: The Firm. Fantastic fretless work by Tony Franklin.
Avatar 10:56pm
Droll:

I couldn't help notice both Plant and Page went with fretless players after Zep ended.
Avatar 10:57pm
Dave Mandl:

@joseph: I know he's no longer with us, though I didn't know the exact year. Did I imply that he's still alive? I didn't mean to.

Guess Led Zeppelin gave them too much to fret about.

@Droll: Also the Pretty Things, of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm

Thanks for the try, Dave. I don't know why I like Montrose but not Bad Company -- certainly not out of any great love of Sammy Hagar.
Avatar 11:02pm
Dave Mandl:

Was Sammy Hagar in Montrose? And why didn't I know that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02pm

There's actually so much to be interested in with this Roland Haynes track that I'm having trouble writing.
Avatar 11:03pm

@pss I kept flashing on Bitches Brew
Avatar 11:04pm

I heard some Return to Forever (Stanley Clarke) in there.

Plus Brand X.

Return to Forever was a nice catch, reminded me of Herbie Hancock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm

Anyway, Dave, Sammy walked out after the tour supporting the second album. He was replaced by Bob James, who did an outstanding job if you ask me.
Avatar 11:09pm
Dave Mandl:

@pss: But was Hagar in the original Montrose? I have no recollection of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm
pacific standard simon:

I'm sure a lot of people don't realize that Ted Nugent was not the lead vocalist in Ted Nugent's band.

Yeah, Sammy was the original.
Avatar 11:13pm
Fancyface:

Oklahoma City Civic Center in the early 70's got to see Ted Nugent pull his stchik of screaming until he passed out on stage, always a show stopper (literally)
Avatar 11:13pm

I did see Hagar once in the '70s, at a Day On The Green at the Oakland Colosseum. I think I was there to see Blue Oyster Cult, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm

What I've forgotten, Ben, Google can remind me.
Avatar 11:22pm
tim osman:

@PSS A disreputable hobby of mine in the 70's was to sneak into concerts. I was unsuccessful once trying to get into a Blue Oyster Cult show, while I was stranded outside I heard the most incredible singer doing the warm-up band. This guy's voice literally shook the building. Later I discovered it was Bob Segar.
Avatar 11:25pm

My show has always attracted criminal elements.

(I'm talking about Bob Seger, of course.)

Will be delighted to stick around an annoy Ms. Amanda.

Old age and treachery overcomes youth and beauty every time Dave.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm

Although NOW I have a powerful urge to hear some Robin Trower.

Bob Seger did have that super power, back then. Probably not so much, these days.
Avatar 11:29pm
Dave Mandl:

I was thinking about Robin Trower just this morning, no fooling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm

Speaking of youth and beauty... HELLO, Amanda...
Avatar 11:30pm

Recently binged on Youtube Robin Trower more current live shows. Excellent ride down memory lane (with video even!)
Avatar 11:31pm
Dave Mandl:

@pss: Yes, Amanda has both in abundance.
  11:33pm
Thierry:

Hi Dave. Quick flashback. In Wikipedia's Brassens article one can read: "His lyrics are difficult to translate, though attempts have been made" ! A successful attempt is to be found by searching "La complainte des filles de joie Emily Loizeau French and English subtitles" within youtube. A beautiful cover, sang twice as slow as the original.
Avatar 11:34pm
Dave Mandl:

@Thierry: You know, there's a guy, whose name I unfortunately can't recall right now, who translated a bunch of Brassen's songs into English, and performs them live. I saw him a few years ago.
Avatar 11:35pm
Dave Mandl:

I mean same melodies, but in English.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36pm
pacific standard simon:

I should just make a CD of this stuff -- the original butt rock bands -- throw in some Climax Blues Band, some boogie...
Avatar 11:36pm
Droll:

Jezzz, I go to make some dinner, and I was listening to violin and piano, but I come back and the comments are talking about classic rock.

We are getting a full dose of Fusion (capital F) on this show! Fusion (capital F) combines jazz and rock, so Fusion (capital F) still counts as 1% Rock-n-Roll, right?

Great dramatic pause there! It's just like the 3-hour show!
Avatar 11:38pm

@PSS I can't wait for smell-o-listen technology, then your're mixed tape will smell like stale beer and cigarette butts on a sticky dance floor.

@Dave: I would love to hear this singer. Maybe you can research him for next week's program. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45pm
pacific standard simon:

Hey, before the show ends, I'd like to mention, since I haven't seen it on the FMU front page, that the station Android 2.0 app is now available from the Amazon app store. This is very good news for Kindle Fire users who cannot download apps from Google Play. It works great.

Before the show ends let me reiterate how 2-hour shows are the worst of both worlds. Do I complain to Ken or BT?
Avatar 11:50pm
Dave Mandl:

@pss: OK, thanks. A friend of mine also got it running on a Blackberry 10.
Avatar 11:51pm
Dave Mandl:

@Droll: Flattery will get you nowhere.
Avatar 11:51pm
Dave Mandl:

But Ken is the program director, so he's the man to complain to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm
pacific standard simon:

I think you will often find yourself complaining to the DJ; some have found 2 hours easier, in the long run.
Avatar 11:53pm
Droll:

Flattery will get me nowhere? Then Ken's gonna get a big 'ol nastygram!
Avatar 11:54pm
Droll:

pss, Yes, I'm sure they go through all the trouble for the minimum amount of air time. They can hardly fill their timeslots as it is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm

Send him a flaming bag of dogshit -- there'll be a GIF of it on his playlist the next week.

@Droll: I'm kidding.

'Till next week, happy flaming bag of dogshit GIF to you, DM.
