I wonder if bjork knows everyone in iceland.
Avatar 12:06am BadGuyZero:

Richard James [a.k.a. Aphex Twin] introduced me to Bjork circa twenty years ago. She was much shorter than I expected.
  12:06am P-9Ø:

Greetings , Therese. Fun much in the tropics?
Avatar 12:07am BadGuyZero:

I hope you're birthday was tremendous, Therese.
Avatar 12:08am feathered motor:

Glad your're back Therese.
Avatar 12:09am tomB:

@Otto. The thing about Iceland is everyone knows everybody in Iceland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Ken From Hyde Park:

What's this, birthday weekend bookend DJs? Keili and Therese on both sides of the weekend? Hooray for birthdays!
  12:10am P-9Ø:

@Otto: Sure, both of them
Avatar 12:10am BadGuyZero:

The first rule of Iceland is that you do not talk about Iceland.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Therese:

Hello! I hope you all kept Samantha company last week.
  12:11am P-9Ø:

@T.: Samantha was EXCELLENT. She did right by you, fer sure
  12:12am P-9Ø:

...and by us
Avatar 12:15am gas from wawa:

Last week was really swell Samantha didn't miss a beat. I hope she had a good time too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Tome:

HI Therese nice to hear & "see" you back again !! and yes Samantha was just splendid !
Avatar 12:17am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I didn't keep Samantha company. I'm sorry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17am Ken From Hyde Park:

Zats...they jacked up postage rates again - about.usps.com... It's 49¢ for a letter now and 34¢ to send a postcard.
Avatar 12:20am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

That explains it -- I tried to conduct mail on Saturday and the line was much too long. I hope all those people on line are putting their 2¢ saved per stamp to good use.
Avatar 12:22am flat out pitch:

@pete recently read something like the average income family of the '50's could send 435,000 postcards while the average wage today equals about 150,000 postcards. Something like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22am fleep:

People still use postcards?
  12:23am P-9Ø:

@X-Ray: fantastique!
Avatar 12:23am David L.B. is RRN63:

I heard on PBS that there's an app for Icelanders who meet other Icelandic singles on the pick-up scene to make sure they're not related.
Avatar 12:24am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I was only able to send 43,238 postcards last year. It's the price of pens that is the real obstacle.
  12:25am P-9Ø:

Don't get me started on pen prices
Avatar 12:25am Whooda:

Exactly, in the fifties there were plenty of government pens that could be pinched for free from the post office.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am Ken From Hyde Park:

I'll bet the guy who patented the selfie is rich enough to send a million post cards.
Avatar 12:27am Droll:

If postage was 1/3rd the price it is now, did they get 3x more junk mail in the 50's?
Avatar 12:27am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I have a decades-old stash of "Skilcraft - U. S. Government" pens that have sadly mostly dried out before I could get through them.
Avatar 12:28am BadGuyZero:

I send postcards to people when I'm traveling.
Avatar 12:28am BadGuyZero:

No Jeff Hanneman in the Grammy's "in memorium" segment???

Eff you Grammys!
Avatar 12:29am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

The last time I bought a pen was at the airport so I could do a crossword puzzle. It was something like $4.29 with tax (but it says "Chicago" so at least there's VALUE in return). The newspaper was $2.00. Even boredom is expensive these days.
Avatar 12:29am Whooda Hellameye:

@Pete Ha! That's what I'm talking about Skilcraft with the nifty little chain attached.
@Droll in the '50's postcards were $0.01 postage
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30am Therese:

Really, BGZ?! What's wrong with those jerks?
Avatar 12:31am earrie:

The Grammys I knew were sweet old ladies with large glasses and gaudy brooches and
Avatar 12:32am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Mine were chainless office pens, so they were able to leak out of work with a parent who shall remain nameless.
Avatar 12:33am BadGuyZero:

For the record, Therese...I'm listening while watching the tail end of the West Coast Grammys broadcast. I'm in Denver this weekend because Jen Kirkman was performing here. She's adorable!
Avatar 12:34am Whooda:

Nothing frustrated me more than having to use one of those chained-up pens when the chain was too short. ARRGG!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am Ken From Hyde Park:

If there was a WFMU version of the Grammys, I'd be interested in watching that. I don't care for the real one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36am Tome:

OH YEAAA !!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37am Tome:

....snoopy dance to the coffee pot time \/\/\/\\ !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am fleep:

They could call it The Grumpies.
Avatar 12:38am BadGuyZero:

The only reason I watch the Grammys is to tweet snarky comments.

I'm sure that makes me a garbage human being, but so be it.
Avatar 12:38am earrie:

The Crappys
Avatar 12:39am BadGuyZero:

Holy hell...Paul Williams is on the Grammys with Daft Punk right now.
Avatar 12:40am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

The phrase "garbage human being" sounds like a PC way of describing the guys who show up Wednesday mornings on the truck.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40am Therese:

Performing or presenting?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41am Ken From Hyde Park:

The pens that addled me the most were the ones for the Spirograph. If the ink dried out or ran out, it was hard to find some regular pen that would fit into the little holes. There are undoubtedly web sites now that can whip out Spirograph patterns flawlessly in any color you wish for.
Avatar 12:41am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

You mean THE Paul Williams, as in Cousin Oliver?
Avatar 12:42am BadGuyZero:

He gave the acceptance speech.
Avatar 12:42am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Spirograph pens were essentially Scriptos, no? Scripto was the pen all my teachers used to write grades, etc. with.
Avatar 12:42am flatscreen fingerprints:

I think the Spirograph was my second zen experience after sewing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43am Tome:

that's when the green pens used to actually work....
Avatar 12:45am BadGuyZero:

FACT: The first time I met Therese was before I went to a Mogwai show at Webster Hall.
Avatar 12:45am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

Apparently Scripto is a brand with many pens, but I remember some solid-bodied ones with long points.

Of course, the points had to be NARROW enough...
  12:46am P-9Ø:

@Pete from: re: PC trash collectors: Hahaha!
Avatar 12:46am Whooda:

Tome you just gave me a flashback of the contact high I could get from the fugitive benzine and touleline from that green ink.
Avatar 12:48am earrie:

Birthday holiday is pretty great idea. The occasional vacational.
Avatar 12:48am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

What about Mr. Sketch, the flavor-scented markers that get you huffing early?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48am Tome:

1st grade when I got Spirograph probable one of my first experiences yes and my "slightly" older cousin playing ie.. moody blues - days of future passed which at 7 years old I was not too fond of either,, but yes the "smell" of the ink the "colors" still get flashbacks" indeed...
Avatar 12:48am egal:

Mexican bus ride.
  12:49am P-9Ø:

@Therese: So nice to have you back. By the way, Samantha wouldn't by any chance happen to be........single, would she?
  12:50am KP:

Welcome back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50am Tome:

wonder what it cost back in '65 I just had to look > bit.ly...
Avatar 12:50am BadGuyZero:

The beginning of this Eleni Mandell song sounds like the beginning of the "King Of The Hill" theme song.
Avatar 12:51am Whooda:

That logo of Mr. Sketch is WAAAY too happy, especially for an artist (he has a brush in his hand) unless of course, he's high as a kite (which most artists are most of the time).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51am Therese:

BGZ- was that at Otto's on 14th Street?

And Pete- were those the markers that all smelled purple and came in a styrofoam box?
Avatar 12:52am BadGuyZero:

@Therese: It was!
  12:54am P-9Ø:

@BGZ: Ha! What's the name of the band that plays that "King" theme? The Shitkickin' Cowbells" or something....gotta check that on the web,, it'll drive me crazy trying to remember
Avatar 12:54am Whooda:

All smelled purple. Ha Ha. That is BRILLIANT. The best description of that smell I have ever heard :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55am Tome:

...kicks the right speaker ..oops maybe this is how it is intended...
Avatar 12:55am BadGuyZero:

@P-9Ø: The Refreshments
  12:56am P-9Ø:

"Yahoos and Triangles" by the Refreshments
Avatar 12:56am ottovonbqe:

yes, no right stereo
  12:57am P-9Ø:

Either I have a brain tumor or my headphones are busted.
Avatar 12:58am BadGuyZero:

@P-9Ø: I never knew the title. I just knew that it went buh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh buh nuh nuh buh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh buh nuh nuh
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58am Therese:

How is it now?
Avatar 12:58am BadGuyZero:

I'm listening via the 128k stream and it has both left and right channels. Has all show thus far.
  12:59am P-9Ø:

Whew
  12:59am Steve-O:

Hi Therese, forgot you were back today. Hope everybody's having fun right now. =)
Avatar 12:59am BadGuyZero:

This Chrome Hoof track is very Rush-ish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59am Tome:

just fine now was just that Nico & Marc Almond number ( which I liked ) only the left channel was audible !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01am Ken From Hyde Park:

Turntable 3 acting up again?
Avatar 1:02am Droll:

[Rush Alert Activated]
Yes -- Chrome Hoof prove prog is a very durable rock genre.
  1:02am Turntable 3:

I dunno, my cartridge has been itching the last couple of days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04am Therese:

Turntable 3!!!!!
Avatar 1:05am Whooda:

@Turntable 3 You really should have a doctor take a look at your needle if your itching down there.
Avatar 1:06am BadGuyZero:

CD 2 will make impromptu dance remixes if you play a CD-R in it.
  1:06am Turntable 3:

The cantilever feels funny. I'm sure it's no big deal, just be gentle with me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am Ken From Hyde Park:

Who's going to step up and adopt Turntable 3 this year?
Avatar 1:09am Whooda:

@Turntable just make sure you take your meds EVERYDAY until there all gone and don't 'skip'
Avatar 1:10am Turntable 2:

Never these issues with me.
Avatar 1:11am BadGuyZero:

BLERG! I fail at posting mildly humorous comments.
Avatar 1:11am Whooda:

Turntable 2 you know how 'odd' 3 is.
  1:13am Turntable 1:

I'm the best!
Avatar 1:15am BadGuyZero:

I'm in Denver watching a local TV reporter reporting from Jersey City.

Weird.

@bgz: *Twilight Zone Theme playing softly*
  1:18am Steve-O:

Oh, and btw, happy birthday, Therese! I hope you enjoyed it lots. =)

Avatar 1:23am BadGuyZero:

Avatar 1:24am BadGuyZero:

Blanket and Bugs Bunny shield???
Avatar 1:25am BadGuyZero:

Rest easy.

I don't think scorpion hills are a real thing.
Avatar 1:26am BadGuyZero:

I have had nothing but exceptional luck with lodging via airbnb.com.
Avatar 1:26am strange security:

I would check the dream interpretation website for 'exploding scorpion hills' but somehow I kinda' doubt there is an interpretation for that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Ken From Hyde Park:

See if exploding scorpion hills suggest a connection to problems with turntable 3.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29am Therese:

Prior to this, I have had nothing but good experiences with them myself.

But yeah, I hope I never encounter an exploding scorpion hill, if such a thing exists.
Avatar 1:33am sloppy Christian kisses:

I can't believe it, there is an interpretation for "exploding scorpion hill' but you don't want to know what it is.
Avatar 1:35am Droll:

Whooda, Tease!
Avatar 1:42am BadGuyZero:

According to my rudimentary Google searches scorpion hills are not an actual thing. But they may be the name of a city/geographic area.
Avatar 1:44am red twizzler fringe:

Yes the Scorpion Hills subdivision right next to Snake Infested Lake
Avatar 1:45am BadGuyZero:

Snake Infested Lake : Iceland :: Non-Snake Infested Lake : Greenland
Avatar 1:45am Droll:

Scorps and Whitesnake... you were right, I didn't want to know.
  1:46am marmalade kitty:

Helo red tf! whereonearth do you find those name tags?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Ken From Hyde Park:

My mom told me about a camping trip in Arizona that she took when she was young. She or someone in her party found a scorpion in their boot in the morning. When I was in Arizona, I slept on top of a picnic table, well off the ground. I may have kept my shoes on, too.
Avatar 1:48am Sam Bvca:

@MK If I knew that there would be at least a hope of being normal
  1:50am marmalade kitty:

you shape shifter!
  1:50am P-9Ø:

Memo: Idea for possible new TV series. A spinoff of "King of the Hill", an animated parody of "Breaking Bad" called "Scorpion Hill", about Hank's meth-cooking cousins in Arizona. Get Judge on board and book the Refreshments to record the theme, a raucous up-tempo adaptation of "Heartbreak Hill" by Emmylou Harris...
  1:53am P-9Ø:

Running gag: Hank doesn't approve of their shady business, but mostly he can't believe how anyone could leave Texas for Arizona...
Avatar 1:54am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I got distracted, but 1. yes, Mr. Sketch were the fruit-flavored markers I can still smell accurately _0 years later, and 2. with one working speaker, it sounds the same as ever here.
  1:55am marmalade kitty:

this sounds like a grown up Gayla peevey
  1:58am marmalade kitty:

..or how I would imagine a grown up Gayla Peevey. (I've never heard a grown up Gayla Peevey)
Avatar 2:01am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

That new Mr. Sketch character is far less chill than the guy we grew up with:

www.trademarkia.com...
  2:02am P-9Ø:

He's got the cutest little wick tip, doesn't he?
Avatar 2:03am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

OK, who is going to be first to post their personal physical address so I can, um, mail them something?

Yes, that's it, maaail...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04am Therese:

You can email through your WFMU Friendship Society page, Pete!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06am Tome:

this is a grooooooovy tune yeah !!
Avatar 2:07am Pete from Boston (and NJ):

I'll have to send you all virtual postcards another day. Finally, I am tired, and going to bed. Pleasant listenings to you all.
Avatar 2:07am guard rail high dive:

Mr. Sketch was bummed ever since rehab put him on 'water' color. He is probably still suffering volital fumes withdrawls. His creativity went to hell in a hand basket too.
Avatar 2:07am BadGuyZero:

I would advise against posting personal addresses, emails or any other info on here.

Unless you want a penguin infestation.
  2:08am P-9Ø:

@Whooda: that was just water-color gossip at the office
  2:08am marmalade kitty:
