I thought it was rather clever. Not anthropomorphizing but just choosing a name that's to the point and memorable.

In a passage in the Rhetorica ad Herennium (1C BCE), the author is giving advice about memorizing topics for a legal speech, and says "for example, in order to remember that you need to mention the testes (witnesses, Latin) in your legal speech, just visualize a pair of testes (testicles)." That would be vivid enough to make you remember that topic.
