Yesterday we (listener/commenters) struggled to come up with a single "Happy" song about dad. Today seems like more of the same. Is there really not a single song about a decent dad?

Hi all! Thanks for stopping by!

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

anyone else torturing their cats with laser pointers?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12am
pacific standard simon:

@Droll - I didn't have any trouble thinking of a positive "father song" -- it just didn't reflect my own experience.
  12:16am
P-90:

pss: Thanks for classing up the joint w/Wordsworth. That one's a tad familiar, but it's a classic-- --were you the one who mentioned the Eddie Fisher tune last night?

Just be thankful, when torturing your cat with a laser pointer, that it has not been deputized by the police department: www.avweb.com...

"Head" actually gets a lot of airplay on WFMU. Not complaining, just noting that lots of DJ's find occasions to play tracks from it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am
pacific standard simon:

I still think "I Am A Child" is the best, but don't listen to me, OH NO.

;p
Avatar 12:27am
bobdoesthings:

Yeah.. I always feel guilty when I pull out the laser pointer. It's clearly not cool to do to cats

Adrian Belew's "Oh Daddy"

One cat saw the laser dot and hid under the bed. The other cat chased the dot for about ten seconds, figured out it was a trick, and now totally ignores it.

coalhard:

When I do in HOMER voice LAZZZZZZZZZZZZER BEAMMMMS my cats start looking all over
  12:31am
P-90:

@ bob: you kidding? running the cat back and forth by keeping the "dot" just out of its reach is the best exercise you can give your cat--I've recommended it to friends whose cats start to get fat after being spayed, it really keeps them trim
Avatar 12:32am
bobdoesthings:

@P-90 .. Nahh .. they get real stressed about not being able to catch it
  12:33am
Carmichael:

@Droll: Clarence Carter's Patches. Sappiest song of the 60s.
Avatar 12:33am
bobdoesthings:

they want to catch it and satisfy their savage instincts
  12:34am
P-90:

@ coalhard: I used to have one one with a little key chain attached, the moment that chain made even the softest "clink", the cat would spring up, even from a dead sleep, and start hunting

BGZ, I looooooooove AB, but yesterday I specifically called that one out as being "self-deprecating".

I don't think any self-respecting outdoor cat would ever chase a dot of light. Nothing to puke up afterwards.
