Avatar 4:11am
Jay/London:

@ Bill Good at being Real bad ..
  4:11am
P-90:

The "WMCA Good Guys" included the one and only Harry Harrison, and one Barry Gray, who was a little bit of a jerk, but hosted a pioneering late-night talk show that would often attract not just one or two but whole panels of distinguished guests, mostly local journalists and writers, who would sit around discussing a new book with it's author, or the Kennedy Assassination or UFO's, same topics guys like Larry king would later do. And actual hippie freaks would call in to debate politics with Barry, a Conservative.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12am
Stanley:

Good question, Bill
I suppose it's only exotic if its foreign and strange, which it would be to your good selves in the US. If we described North Wales (or anywhere in the UK, for that matter) as exotic, we would be being ironic.

Ok. Enough of the iphone censoring my comments. Also in band were Rick Roberts of FBB and Firefall, Blondie Chaplin of the Beach Boys and Easy Rider era Byrds bass player John York, who played 12-string. i was leaning on stage at Gene's feet. Life changing show.

-i wonder if Ms.Cantrell would appreciate the title.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39am
coelacanth:

...but from now,on,it's expected that if you wear buttless chaps, you get that tattoo.
  4:39am
P-90:

Wasn't there an old-timey country crooner named Buttless Chaps back in the forties?
  4:42am
P-90:

I think that old country swing band was called Buttless Chaps and his Saddle Leather Boys
Avatar 4:43am
KP:

Other epiphanies? The Happy Jack era Who, the Clarence White Byrds, Rolling Thunder Dylan. Linda Ronstadt but in a different way
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43am

There was a whole band of buttless chaps. Their southern nannies neglected to give them their lima bean enemas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44am

Aren't chaps buttless by default?

Actually a picture of a chapless butt...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47am
coelacanth:

okay! That's considerably better than the harley-biker image i had.
Avatar 4:49am
KP:

There were basically two Byrds. Crosby, Hillman, et all, and then the country era Clarence White Byrds. They carried on Sweetheart of Rodeo sound after Gram Parsons left. The Ballad of Easy Rider, Chestnut Mare and a long live version of Eight Miles High are best known songs from them. Roger McGuinn was the constant. It's heresy but i prefer what is known as the latter day Byrds.
  4:49am
P-90:

@KP: Linda Ronstadt ANY old way, Man!
I used to go to the old Lone Star doesn't there by Washington Square, you could get really close to those bands, it was that kind of place. I remember walking in the door one evening in the eighties and walking right past The Ventures in mid-set to get to the bar...
Avatar 4:50am
Bill Mac:

Mott the Hoople.... didn't see the original band but Mach II was plenty for this 17 year old.... except for REO Speedwagon replacing Queen as the opener (!!!!) it was truly memorable.
Avatar 4:51am

Wow. yeah the Lone Star. My friends used to play there. drummer in my band now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51am
Stanley:

@Bill - yee haw!
  4:52am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53am

Ronstadt was from that country rock era too. Then Peter Asher entered picture.

I got that premium coming my way. But its a slow swag train-a-coming.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59am

  5:00am
P-90:

Don't forget "Eight Miles High", they were a PSYCHEDELIC cowboy blues-folk rock band. Hard to explain nowadays, it was a San Francisco thing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01am
Stanley:

@P-90 anything to do with the drugs?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03am

...and i like turn turn turn & feel a whole lot better; but don't like tambourine man - or any other Dylan cover they did,for that matter, except for you ain't goin' nowhere.
...?
  5:05am
P-90:

The English rock musicians I've spoken to who came up in London in the sixties always mention that The Byrds were a big inspiration, like the big influence that fans never guess. The Prog rockers in particular were mad for The Byrds, unlikely as it sounds...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06am
coelacanth:

i like 8 miles high,too...& "changing heart".
see,this is why i'm confused!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09am

i think it may be just from the reunion incarnation.
(?)
Avatar 5:15am
KP:

OK, Changing Heart is from the reunion album. The original five guys, Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke. It was not well received. Crosby had major role in it and made is more like CSNY than BYRDS. It also signaled end of the group.
