@Rev: I was actually pointing that out. I got a collection of his pre-film comics in Mexico, and most of the imagery and themes would come to play in his films. My gf got one of his recent books, but I read super slow en espanol.

Jodorowsky has a new book out too, a memoir. My favorite lit professor at Columbia did the translation. Haven't had a chance to read it yet, but perused some pages, it looks like a must-read for AJ freaks.

My absolute favorite film of all time by anyone is Santa Sangre. My old beat-up VHS copy has been ritually watched on my birthday every year for centuries. When they finally released a DVD in the states, I flipped the hell out..

@Sem: I actually saw that storyboard by Moebius in LA in the 70s, I knew people who were hired to work on the film and went off to Paris, then came back emotionally wrecked when the plug suddenly got pulled. The visualizations of the characters were excellent, great costumes, everything. It's mostly black and white, pen and ink. It's the whole movie, shot-by-shot.

@Rev - you remember the scene where the boy gets the tattoo from his father? the camera focusing on the boy's tears rolling down his face. Jodorowsky cast his own son in the role and in that scene was crouching under the chair, out of camera range, pushing pins into his own boy's legs. Now that is what I call a director!

@ Rev Turnip: That's cool that Santa Sangre is your favorite movie, it's great. It also had an element to the story that anticipated the kind of thing that M. Knight Shmalyalyan did years later. Also "Fight Club", but he did it first, and better IMO.

Rock n Roll Hoochie Koo was first recorded by Johnny Winter And. Rick Derringer was in the band and wrote the song (and recorded his own version a couple years later).
Johnny Winter's version of Dylan's Highway 61 was also a hit, I think.
