I doubt it Bill - although Hammill always said he was a 'soulboy' in his youth I think he meant torturing souls - the Georgio Moroder mix of Man Erg I can confidently say is non existent as is the Peter Hammill disco movie which the Bee Gees just beat him to the post with - Peter's Saturday Night Feverish Nightmare only needed a little editing apparently?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am
Fran:

Brian - well done for lasting over an hour to mention the Kate Bush subject! Love a lot of what Kate Bush has done but if there ever was an over hyped series of overpriced concerts largely populated by non fans who just want to brag on Facebook or similar about the fact they are going and posting ridiculous pictures of a ticket, blurred image of a small lady singing with session musicians etc in a smug way - this is it! My theory is that they will be treated to perhaps 2-3 'hits' a lot of album tracks many non fans don't know and the odd ' thank you for being so special' blather from the stage. I also have a theory that she may not last 28 days or whatever due to nervous exhaustion, stage fright or whatever. In my book I have saved the money for around 15 gigs by interesting artists that need the support - rant over!
Avatar 4:22am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24am
Fran:

and...................the camera phone thing. Yes annoying but unfortunately the modern world and the odd snap I can handle/do myself if I think I won't be in someone's face. What is worse is the hullaballoo caused by over officious staff who annoy everyone else telling them to stop or as happens sometimes idiotically shining a torch in on someone and blinding everyone else in the process - rant 2 over!

Brian in UK:

Fran were you at Caf Oto just before Christmas to see Lonnie Holley?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30am
Fran:

I'll take pictures at a standing show if I am real close up and not annoying anyone, never use flash etc but other than if you can't get a decent photo why would you do it. Etiquette at gigs - those who come to a gig to have the same loud conversation they could have in a pub without paying for it and annoying all around them......yup, its gone Brian! Although that said at Slint recently I was expecting the chattering classless and got a surprise by some respect for the quiet-loud-quiet dynamic - wheyhey!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32am
Stanley:

Here's my suggestion for bands today. At the start request everyone to take as many pictures as they want during the first number and also announce that a recording of the gig will be up on YouTube the next day. So put the fucking devices away and enjoy the live experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33am

P-90:

Funny that Crimson comes up at this point, because Bob Fripp was vigorously fighting the uphill battle against rampant photography at concerts over 30 years ago. His concern was always the same as Kate Bush's: that the atmosphere this creates adversely affects the band's connection with the audience and the overall experience for both artists and patrons. There's an idea there also that if one respects a performer enough to purchase a ticket and take the time and effort to attend a show, one might pay some repect to the artist's request not to go crazy taking pictures instead of allowing the focus to remain on the live experience. Of course, now every 12 year old with a phone has a sophistcated still/video and sound recording device with him at all times.......Bob's pretty much had to give up on the cause. Still, if Kate wants to make her wishes known to her audience, it can only exert some positive influence on the situation, however slight the effect might be in the end.

Gal Costa - whoohoo! Some of her early stuff is wild - a great track called Tuareg always does it for me! Steeleye Span soon? Hope it's not from their best forgotten glam years as Steeleye Spandex or their internet only album that nobody could download - Steeleye Spam.

You know rRose Kemp?
Maddy Prior's and Rick kemp's daughter!
She does some great ... how shall i put it ... freak-folk-goth-doom-metal!
Great singer!
Seems to hibernate currently.

Hey Jon good luck with that... is this your only option or can't you sleep?

I saw Steeleye Span in Central Park quite a while ago. Opening act was Bonnie Raitt and she was super but Maddy Prior

@Guido Someone else I'll need to get an eye out for thanks
@Fran - I seem to remember someone pointed out a really sultry performance from Gals early days - from what I remember of it - wowsers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11am
Fran:

P-90 - I think the main atmosphere at Kate Bush's concert will be expensive smelling perfumes and aftershaves sadly. I hope genuine fans are the main body of the crowd but I doubt it

KP:

Guido! How are you. I unhibernated just to say hello

I've paid MY money to see you so bugger off what you want bleedin' artiste. Just play the bluddy music and get off. They will be someone new on next week and you will be history. Wadda you mean short attention span, I've written this havn't I?

@Jon - Should be a pretty interesting episode to tune into. I'm gassed now and I had a nice nap before I got in
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14am

Bill - Gal made some amazing and wild early records - her more modern day 'supper club' act is sad in comparison!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15am

This reminds me, the sainted one played Beaverteeth last week.

Yeah back to Kate Bush, id say a phone is a phone but draw the line at tablets. They would be in your line of vision. The Yankees ban them

I just looked up the price of a Kate Bush ticket £145!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19am
Fran:

KP - it won't be long before someone has the idea of a 42" phone screen so that you can take huge pictures, annoy more people...in High definition and provide employment for theatre interns (unpaid of course as is the modern British way) to hold the screen at either side so that you can luxuriate in the experience and maximise annoyance for those behind you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19am
Guido from Cologne:

OMAR KORSHIT!
Avatar 5:20am
Bill Mac:

@Stanley - Can you tell if it's a general admission ticket?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20am
Sem Chumbo:

The 42" hover-phone: the Kate Bush never can say goodbye edition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20am
Guido from Cologne:

His best, from where do you have that?
(Debut on "Voice Of Lebanon") , but he is Egyptian actually)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am
Fran:

£145 - alarmingly that seems cheap unless they have all these anti tout restrictions and its a risky buy
Avatar 5:22am
Jay/London:

@ stanley heard the tickets sold out in 15 mins is that one on a site .... this track is great Bill
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:22am
Brian in UK:

Stanley, you can get a full inflatable for a monkey (that's slang for £500) or a pony (£25) with patches.

A pony with patches. Oh, the memories.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24am
Brian in UK:

Patches I'm depending on you son.
  5:24am
P-90:

@ Stanley: That's in line with Boroadway/West End prices for musical theater etc, and less than top-price tickets at, for instance, any of the periodic Eagles' "farewell tours"...
  5:24am
KP:

Bill I don't know the venue but it is reserved with various levels available on scalper market

I'm trying to recall the most money I ever spent on a show. 65 bucks for Tom Waits comes to mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:27am
Fran:

Same for me - Tom Waits was my most pricey at £70
  5:27am
KP:

Even @ pounds, I don't think that price is out line. People pay as much for horrendous Broadway shows. It's nothing to her audience
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28am
Fran:

KP - I would distinguish between audience and fans
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28am
Brian in UK:

Hard to justify anything over £30. Never have so far.
  5:29am

Quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten. My credo.

@Fran - I think we paid well for Quo tix when they came to NYC 10 years ago,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31am

Michael Holding was a wonderful fast bowler from the West Indies, known as whispering death. A beautiful action and very fast.

The Quo - I'm not sure they would cause too much of a ticket rush commotion nowadays

I saw the Who (1st farewell tour). I think those tickets were 50 a pop, which was about 45 bucks more than I wanted to pay. Remember watching Pete Townsend on a huge screen.

@Stanley Has been as always. Take care of yourself - and yep - smack dat ass!

I always wonder why people spend well over $100 for a dinner for two but draw line at concert tickets. Seeing a performer you love is kind of priceless
  5:39am
P-90:

I don't think orchestra seats for any act at Radio City have been below $100 in a decade or so, at least as far back as the Emmylou Harris/Mark Knopfler show I saw there in 2002 or -03. Sometimes a lot more...
They wanted about that much a month or so ago for Yes- -without Jon Anderson! ( Or Wakeman either)

Good club shows used to be the rule here. I was never crazy about theater type concerts, except the Fillmore East
  5:50am
Falling_Angel:

When we our to our seats, someone had already thrown up on them.
  5:50am
P-90:

@ Guido: Absolutely, the middle-size theaters are by far the best venues these days. And yes, sound can either be very, very good, or ridiculously poor.

But saw David Bowie at the Cap Center in DC right around the same time, and he really did make the arena concept work.
  5:54am
KP:

Bill was that the "Who on Ice" tour. I've seen them maybe 16 times
  5:54am

I think we forget a little bit these days just how utterly wasted and rowdy people routinely got at shows in the 70s - 80s
