@BGZ: So close to the beginning--if you caught a bit of the first song, then you know the overall feel of the episode fine!

  12:50am

Matt from Springfield:

Sir Douglas Sahm, always good party rock.
  12:56am
KP:

Useless trivia: Future Byrds bassist John York (Easy Rider era) was an original member of the Sir Douglas Quintet and is on cover of their first album.
Avatar 12:58am
Matt from Springfield:

Whoa! Is this Bobby Darin in his social justice/folky phase?! This one's pretty good!
Avatar 12:59am
Matt from Springfield:

@KP: McGuinn was the only constant one, so many other musicians have passed through the Byrds.
  1:01am
KP:

Ok a Byrds stretch from Bobby Darin. When he went folkie, he added Jim McGuinn as his accompanist/arranger. That was the future Roger's last gig before going (inventing) folk/rock
  1:01am
Maxx Tuneage:

Trivial Pursuedesuit: Bobby Darin's love for the ol' chess board was only rivaled by his love of the Bobby Skarin Rude Boy Skatet.
  1:03am
KP:

Yes Matt. The latter-day country Byrds have many fans, including meself and just about everybody I know
Avatar 1:05am
Matt from Springfield:

Knew it! "Sir Robert Darin Sings the Standards!", if he had lived to the present day...
  1:06am

I had fogotten that tidbit about Darin hiring McGuinn. Ahh, those were the days...

Mogwai released an album a couple of years ago called "Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will."
Avatar 1:13am
Matt from Springfield:

That's the kind of self-aware punk/metal meta-fan-reference we like, BGZ.
  1:16am
KP:

Mogwai's next release will apparently be called Come On Die Young.
I sense a theme.
Avatar 1:16am
BadGuyZero:

Those Mogwai guys display their sharp wit in their song titles.
Avatar 1:18am
BadGuyZero:

They re-released a deluxe version of "Come On Die Young" for its fifteenth anniversary. "Rave Tapes" is Mogwai's most recent album.
  1:18am
KP:

They're one of the many bands that when I bring home the cd I realize I have it, snd of course suspected that
  1:23am
KP:

White Hills/Gnod as first heard here is the best thing I bought since moving to NYC. Great driving music
Avatar 1:30am
BadGuyZero:

I'm giving up hope that the 4-LP version of "Come On Die Young" is going to get released in the U.S. The shipping cost alone from overseas is in the $35-$50 range; the box set costs around $100. Why do I have to be a completist nerd?
  1:34am
P-90:

@BGZ: because what's more fun than being a completist nerd?
  1:38am
KP:

Do it before you have somebody checking on everything that comes into the house.

FXX.

EVERY. SIMPSONS. EVER. I myself have wasted much of my weekend doing just that!!

And YES! they show the GD Hanes kitten T-shirt commercial too much! BUT--I think they're showing the pre-syndication 23 MIN episodes! So great, they have those little clips I missed over years of 1 minute syndication edits!
Avatar 1:45am
BadGuyZero:

Is that the one where Homer eats the ghost pepper?
Avatar 1:47am
BadGuyZero:

@Matt: Yes, the episodes are uncut. They will air the cut-for-syndication versions afterwards. They said they will air the uncut episodes on special occasions.
Avatar 1:47am
Matt from Springfield:

And more geography teaching in the U.S.!! I'm a geographer, so don't make me open your brains and cram geography into it!!! ...The More You Know!

Early this afternoon I reached the point where I started to remember the original airings of the episodes and the little bits I haven't seen since original broadcast.

Every time I see a photo of that new Doctor Who I think it's David Cronenberg.
  1:49am
KP:

Therese, did you record the Mtv VMAs? Quite moving
Avatar 1:49am
Matt from Springfield:

@BGZ: Heeeheeeheeeheee, sweet! :)

If there was an every-[soap opera]-ever marathon, I think they should run every Days Of Our Lives, because of the awful continuity story problems over the years. Characters killed off, brought back and recycled, that show is a train wreck.

I was scanning the cover of Hank IV's "Depravity's Rainbow" single last night. I miss you and Mike hanging out on-air. Those shows often made me anxious as Mike would plumb the darker corners of the human psyche much to your unease.
